In the back of a taxi, Chris heads to his old school for a reunion meal for his old class. Aside from some small talk, most people either ignore Chris of treat him with jokey contempt happy to be shot of him when he eventually moves on to the next person. With the start of the music, Chris starts to really enjoy himself but his outlandish behaviour starts to worry some of the group, but their actions are to no avail. Meanwhile a man called Tony sits quietly in the corner of the room.
This film is an example of a short that is all about the delivery meaning that while it is engaging and interesting to watch, it is somehow lacking in the conclusion. The story involves a man called Chris who we know has a story behind him because he is about as popular as a pork pie at a Jewish wedding as well as acting up more and more as the evening goes on. This is interesting because we don't know where it is going or what it behind it but it is less than satisfying in the conclusion because really it doesn't deliver by the end. It leaves questions and provides very little in the way of answers but this only affects the end.
The deliver throughout is great; the camera roves the gathering in long tracking shots, providing an interesting collection of characters that raises all manner of questions. It helps the narrative but also gives the film a real professional feel and it is all down to the good direction from Jonson. The acting is good, with Procter providing an interesting character and McGuire acting as the possible solution (shame it never totally comes).
Overall this is an interesting film that is worth seeing for all that it does well. It was a problem for me that it didn't provide a satisfying conclusion to what had been a strong story otherwise, but this is just a minor problem in a film that generally does everything else right.
