In addition to the regular command icons included in the icon interface of many Sierra games (Walk, Look, Take/Use and Talk), there are "Smell" and "Taste" icons. Using these icons on various creatures and objects Roger encounters throughout the game may get funny messages, but they are not necessary to win the game. These additional icons are included also in Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers (1991).

Blooper
Shortly after Roger takes off in the ship he bought at Ulence Flats, the time pod which Roger stole in the fourth game Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers (1991) appears. In the fourth game, Roger indeed used the time pod to travel to Ulence Flats, but upon arriving he finds out that most of the stores have been long closed and abandoned (except the bar) - so he could not arrive there shortly after leaving the place in the first game, while the stores were still open.

Versioni alternative
In the original remake version of the game, a rock band named ZZ Top of two men with long beards and a drummer is featured in the bar. Since ZZ Top band sued Sierra for copyright infringement, the game was later reissued, and the band was replaced with two midget aliens and an alien drummer instead.
