Sacred Waters

This is a powerful documentary told in the words of the Cuban-American community in the Miami area who risked their lives and fortunes to leave Cuba and start over again in the U.S.A. The "sacred waters" is the 90-mile stretch of water from Cuba to Florida, where bodies of thousands of those seeking freedom have perished beneath the sea...The pride in their heritage and hopes for the future by Cuban-Americans are positively portrayed. For many of us in the U.S.A. who take our freedoms for granted, this story highlights the tragedy that has happened in our own backyard. As Fidel Castro nears death, this story should cause somber reflection over the heaviness that has settled upon this once happy island. Growing up in New York City as a teenager at the time of Castro's revolution and his subsequent visit to the U.N., I remember the warnings about what may happen ahead being dismissed by the major New York media and how Castro was treated as a celebrity... Again, a cause for somber reflection. Thanks to all involved in this project for bringing this story to light.
