A deliciously funny film, unique and quirky. Sure to become an Australian classic. The dark satire is perfectly balanced with the awkwardness of the realities of this wonderfully dysfunctional family. There are so many layers to this very clever social satire which, at times leave you squirming. A bit like being a teenager and
sex scene comes on ina movie ... everyone goes quite, the awkwardness is palpable and relief evident when it's over! This ripper has that in spades but it is one of the key elements which create that rich playground upon which the cast play. A fabulous script and achingly unlikeable characters (initially) living a suburban life with a mad hatters tea party of a family. A raccous commentary on parenting, living through one's children, narcissism on steroids and the private lives behind closed doors flung wide open. Nothing is off limits. The jokes are laugh out loud funny. It's uniquely Australian cinema with a great style and design, soundtrack and great pace. The cast are just meant for their roles and the direction of Natalie Bailey brings out stellar, organic performances. This film is real and tangible. You'll fall in love with this mad family and this fabulous Australian gem. Akin to the flagships such as Crackerjack, Muriel's Wedding, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and A Savage Christmas. This film is just bloody great!
