The Last Witch Hunter - L'ultimo cacciatore di streghe

Vin Diesel had been a Dungeons and Dragons player for many years (he taught Dame Judi Dench to play on the set of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)). The main character in this movie was partly based on his old Dungeons and Dragons character (Melkor) who was a Witch Hunter. He used one of the third party Dungeons and Dragons books to create the character class, as he loved being a Ranger type, but also like to use a few spells too.

Chloe mentions witches being burned at the stake in Salem. This is a common misconception. In fact, no witches were ever burned at the stake in the eventual United States. Drowning was a common death suffered by people accused of witchcraft during interrogation at the Salem witch trials. If the accused survived the interrogation and confessed then the sentence for witch craft was for the accused to be hung by the neck until dead.

The Summit Entertainment logo appears on a parchment in ink, with the text is written in runic script before morphing into normal letters.

The UK release was cut, this film was originally seen for advice, at which stage the distributor was informed it was likely to be classified 15 but that their preferred 12A could be obtained by making a number of reductions to moments of violence and horror. When the film was submitted for formal classification, acceptable reductions had been made in these sequences and the film was classified 12A.
