I stumbled upon "Already Famous" (aka "Yi Pao Er Hong") 10 years after it was released. I hadn't even heard about it when I picked it up. I saw from the cover that it was an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen, so I took the time to sit down and watch this 2011 Singapore comedy.
While "Already Famous" definitely was a watchable movie, it was not an outstanding movie for my particular preference. The storyline, as written by writer and director Michelle Chong, was just missing that special spark to it. The storyline was too bland for my liking.
For a light comedy, then I suppose "Already Famous" fared well enough. There were a couple of laughs throughout the course of the movie, but they didn't come from the lead performance Michelle Chong. Nay, they came from support cast Enlai Chua (playing Vaness) and Ernest Seah (playing Earness). As for the lead performance, well, it wasn't an outstanding performance really.
"Already Famous" felt like a movie that were a dime a dozen, it didn't really bring anything new to the comedy genre, so it felt like it was just riding along on what other movies already had managed to deliver - and often deliver in a more enjoyable fashion.
The movie was one that came and went without leaving a lasting impression for me. Sure, "Already Famous" was suitable for a single viewing, but it is hardly a movie that will be played a second time for me.
My rating of "Already Famous" lands on a bland and mediocre five out of ten stars.
