I sat down to watch the 2022 Vietnamese horror movie "Hanh Phúc Máu" (aka "Blood Karma") here in 2024, without ever having heard about the movie. So I had no idea what I was in for. But with it being an Asian horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I had to watch it.
Oh dear God what a drag of a movie. The storyline and script was so incredibly boring that I had to toss the towel in the ring 46 minutes into the 108 minute runtime. Yeah, nothing interesting had happened, and the narrative just made zero sense. And I have to say that the character gallery was about as interesting as watching paint drying on a newly painted wall. And it didn't help much that the one and only interesting character was the first one to be killed and taken out of the storyline.
The acting performances were good though, but the actors and actresses just had nothing to work with in terms of script and character gallery. And that made for a very, very bland and mundane viewing experience. Nay, strike that, it made for a downright boring viewing experience.
For a thriller, or light horror, then "Hanh Phúc Máu" from directors Nguyen Minh Chung and Chung Nguyen, was a swing and a miss.
I found this movie to be incredibly boring and a waste of time. And if you enjoy Asian horror movie, then do yourself a favor and don't waste your time, money or effort on this dumpster fire of a movie.
My rating of "Hanh Phúc Máu" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars. This is not a movie that I will ever return to and attempt finish watching, because I just simply didn't care about the storyline or the characters, and there was no entertainment to be found anywhere. If not for a good production and good acting performances, it would have landed on a two star rating.
