After a long time of waiting Ballmastrz: 9009 returns with the new special Ballmastrz: Rubicon. I am so happy with how it turned out. Christy Karacas, creator of superjail and Ballmastrz, is know for his extremely fast paced action, dialogue, and 11 minute episodes. This time the special is 22 minutes, which gives more time for breathing room and lets things really flesh out for exposition and have room for many great character moments. While most episodes focus on Gaz, Ace, or the Leptons, this time Crazyzar, the ruler of earth, takes the spotlight this time around and really steals the show, he's such a fantastic character that is full of hope and love. All characters have a deep love for each other which led to small heartfelt moments that feel earned. Also new to this special is a completely new art style that looks amazing. While I wholeheartedly prefer the rough grit of the average episodes. This new style has a ton of charm especially in the facial expressions. Along with great drawn out scenes that look beautiful. It really captures that vintage look of 70's anime. While you can see where some corners were cut in the animation (most likely for budget reasons), you can still tell this new animation studio put a lot of care into this special. The new look honestly clashes with the fantastically harsh voices of the original show, but I find it to add to the insanity that is Ballmastrz. This Special does more than I expected and soared with flying colors! The only thing it did was leave me wanting more, just like how the season 2 finale did. It's only a matter of time if Adult Swim gives Christy Karacas the thumbs up to continue this fantastic series. I consider Ballmasterz to be a modern Adult Swim classic, and I hope this series continues and leads the Leptons, Crazyzar, and Christy, into new heights.
