Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies - The Historic Musical Animated Classics

An extremely large Old King Cole sings his story. His "fiddlers three" turn out to be the Three Blind Mice. And his book is Mother Goose, which illustrates Little Miss Muffett, Jack and Jill (they meet Simple Simon at the top of the hill), Humpty Dumpty, Little Jack Horner (his pie also contains the four-and-twenty blackbirds), Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue (his horn brings the sheep home, one of which falls in black mud and becomes Baa Baa Black Sheep), and Hey Diddle Diddle.

Two children wander the forest and get lured into a witch's house.

A baby is transported to Lullaby Land, where pacifiers grow on trees, diapers, bottles, and potty chairs march on parade, and the gingham dog comes to life. He wanders into the "keep out" cave, full of things like scissors, knives, and fountain pens that are not for baby and begins smashing watches with hammers and playing with giant matches. The matches chase after him; baby escapes by riding a bar of soap across a pond, but the smoke from the matches turns into boogey-men. The benevolent sandman, dressed as a wizard, spots baby hiding and works his magic, bringing us back to the real nursery.

Big race. Hare, fast and in lead, stops to loaf and show off to girl bunnies. Tortoise, plodding along at steady, slow pace, wins, although hare tries a last minute burst of speed.

To the tune "I Would Like to Be a Bird," a young mouse fashions wings from a pair of leaves, to the great amusement of his brothers when his attempts to use them fail. When the butterfly he rescues from a spider proves to be a fairy, he wishes for wings. But his bat-like appearance doesn't fit in with either the birds or the other mice, and he finds himself friendless; even the bats make fun of him.

Ambrose the kitten renames himself Butch and runs away from home with plans to become a robber. His first intended victim, though, is a real robber: Dirty Bill, a dog. Dirty Bill asks Ambrose/Butch if he's pulled off any big jobs, and he tells of the stagecoach robbery we saw him enacting with dolls and toys at the beginning of the movie, without, of course, mentioning that it was all playacting. Bill asks him about the loot, and Butch brings out a bag of cookies. Bill won't accept that answer, and comes after Ambrose, scaring him right into the bath he earlier avoided.

A dwarf grants the king's wish that everything he touches will turn to gold. When the king finds that he cannot eat, he is no longer happy with the gift. By giving up his worldly property, he finds happiness going from riches to rags.

Morty Citymouse invites his cousin Abner Countrymouse for a visit and shows him the ways of the big city, including traps, eating quietly, and busy traffic.

A little elephant is ashamed of his trunk until he saves his tiger girlfriend with it by using it as a fire hose when her house burns.

When a lazy grasshopper prefers to sing and dance rather than forage like his friends the ants, he learns to regret it when winter approaches. The ants save his life and in return he entertains them with his music.

Robin is crooning to a Mae West-like Jenny Wren when he is shot with an arrow. A court is convened; the judge, an owl, keeps singing the title. A variety of birds are brought to the witness stand, but nobody knows a thing.

Without dialogue, "Water Babies" chronicles the activities of numerous kewpie doll-like water nymphs over the course of a single day, from their awakening from their slumber in the shelter of their respective pond lilies, through their traversing of a lake by means aviary and nautical, their numerous play activities and their return to the pond lilies at nightfall.

Three sleepy babies in a clog-boat sailing through the night sky attempt to fish with candy canes for very smart fish.

The Three Little Pigs each build a house of different material. The Big Bad Wolf comes along and blows away the straw and stick homes, but is unable to destroy the house of bricks.

Red Riding Hood is accompanied by Fiddler Pig and Piper Pig as she takes a shortcut through the forest to deliver food to her sick grandmother.

Two frivolous pigs blow the "wolf" horn one too many times and Practical Pig ignores them. The Big Bad Wolf and Three Little Wolves capture the pigs and eventually Practical Pig manages to rescue them in nick of time with "Wolf Pacifier."

Donald and Peter Pig refuse to help the Wise Little Hen plant her corn or harvest it, but they are plenty anxious to help eat it.

A sequel to The Tortoise and the Hare (1935), Max Hare and Toby Tortoise are competing again, this time mismatched in the boxing ring.

Two of the Three Little Pigs are caught by the Big Bad Wolf while swimming. But when the wolf tries to get the third, he is captured by the third pig who uses his new lie detector to get the information about his two brothers from the wolf.....

The clock strikes midnight, the bats fly from the belfry, a dog howls at the full moon, and two black cats fight in the cemetery: a perfect time for four skeletons to come out and dance a bit.

The emperor's musicians play their instruments (and a stray cat) while the ladies of the court dance. Meanwhile, the children fish and play. But soon, the children anger the emperor, who gives chase. And the whole story was told in a plate.

A spider sneaks into the Sphinx and has several spooky encounters.

A jealous stump threatens two trees that are in love by starting a forest fire. When the rain comes and puts out the fire the forest revives and celebrates the wedding.

Cookies, cakes, and other desserts march in a parade. A gingerbread girl cries because she has nothing to wear; a gingerbread man dresses her up, and she is named cookie queen.

The princess violin from the sleepy Land of Symphony is chased by a more lively alto saxophone from the Isle of Jazz. Soon the queen (a viola) discovers them and locks the sax in the metronome.
