- DirectorRenny HarlinStarsBruce WillisWilliam AthertonBonnie BedeliaJohn McClane attempts to avert disaster as rogue military operatives seize control of Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.Ah, for the days when you could carry a taser onto a plane in your purse. Points docked for the lack of Alan Rickman. 7/10 -01/01/13
- DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsBruce WillisJeremy IronsSamuel L. JacksonJohn McClane and a Harlem store owner are targeted by German terrorist Simon in New York City, where he plans to rob the Federal Reserve Building.Ridiculous Die Hard, but still not as silly as Live Free or Die Hard OR the trailer for Good Day to Die Hard. 5/10 -01/01/12
- DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsBruce WillisAlan RickmanBonnie BedeliaA New York City police officer tries to save his estranged wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.Yay Alan Rickman! 8/10 -01/01/13
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJamie FoxxChristoph WaltzLeonardo DiCaprioWith the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.Delightfully unhinged. Large portions of the script felt as if either Mel Brooks or Douglas Adams had punched it up, but not in a bad way. Absurdly funny! -8/10 -01/01/13
- DirectorSacha GervasiStarsAnthony HopkinsHelen MirrenScarlett JohanssonThe relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville during the filming of Psycho (1960) in 1959 is explored.Surprisingly fun. A little lighter than you'd expect since Hitchcock is the subject, but good times. 7/10 -01/09/13
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.Having a Marvel kind of day. Still a wonderful movie. But why is The Dude killing things? 8/10 -01/11/13
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.Apparently it wasn't Joss's idea to kill Coulson, it was Kevin Feige. I'm not sure if I believe Joss. Also, when are Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch going to do something together? 9/10 -01/11/13
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartKim NovakBarbara Bel GeddesA former San Francisco police detective juggles wrestling with his personal demons and becoming obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he has been hired to trail, who may be deeply disturbed.Good flick, even if it's not my favourite Hitchcock flick. I prefer my leading men more Cary Grant style to Jimmy Stewart. Stunningly beautiful to look at. 7/10 -01/13/13
- DirectorDavid WainStarsJennifer AnistonPaul RuddMalin AkermanRattled by sudden unemployment, a Manhattan couple surveys alternative living options, ultimately deciding to experiment with living on a rural commune where free love rules.NOt bad, I mostly had it on in the background while I made cupcakes, but still was funny enough. 5/10 -01/13/13
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsHarvey KeitelTim RothMichael MadsenWhen a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.Good, great scenes and dialogue. Good foundational Tarantino.
7/10 -01/18/13 - DirectorMichael HanekeStarsJean-Louis TrintignantEmmanuelle RivaIsabelle HuppertGeorges and Anne are an octogenarian couple. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.Really depressing look at the frailties of age and the stressors that aging places on the family/spouse. Well acted, but over all VERY slow. 5/10. -01/19/13
- DirectorTom HooperStarsHugh JackmanRussell CroweAnne HathawayIn 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who, for decades, has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The decision changes their lives forever.About what I expected. Felt about 40 minutes longer than it actually was. Beautifully shot & amazing performances though- just way too long. 7/10 -01/19/13
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsDaniel Day-LewisSally FieldDavid StrathairnAs the Civil War rages on, U.S President Abraham Lincoln struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on his decision to emancipate the slaves.Powerful film, great performances all around. BAD hairdo for Tommy Lee Jones. 8/10 -01/19/13
- DirectorKathryn BigelowStarsJessica ChastainJoel EdgertonChris PrattA chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L.s Team 6 in May 2011.Excellent. Fantastic representation of recent history through a semi-dispassionate lens. 8/10 -01/19/13
- DirectorLee Toland KriegerStarsRashida JonesAndy SambergElijah WoodA divorcing couple tries to maintain their friendship while they both pursue other people.Interesting and occasionally funny. Not stupendously amazing, but something good to have on in the background. 5/10 -01/19/13
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsSean PennRyan GoslingEmma StoneIt's 1949 Los Angeles, the city is run by gangsters and a malicious mobster, Mickey Cohen. Determined to end the corruption, John O'Mara assembles a team of cops, ready to take down the ruthless leader and restore peace to the city. Not bad, but also not totally awesome. Some dialogue felt like lazy Tarantino wannabe work. Decent action, but does break the "cool guys don't look at explosions" rule. 6/10 -01/20/13
- DirectorPeter BergStarsAlexander SkarsgårdBrooklyn DeckerLiam NeesonA fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.Ludicrious and stupid. Alexander Skarsgard is making very poor movie choices over all. Taylor Kitsch has all the charisma of dirt. Excellent explosions though. 2/10 -01/25/13
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsSam NeillLaura DernJeff GoldblumAn industrialist invites some experts to visit his theme park of cloned dinosaurs. After a power failure, the creatures run loose, putting everyone's lives, including his grandchildren's, in danger.Still a delight! Stands up surprisingly well, but those kids are annoying. 8/10. -02/03/13
- DirectorDustin HoffmanStarsMaggie SmithMichael GambonBilly ConnollyAt a home for retired musicians, the annual concert to celebrate Composer Giuseppe Verdi's birthday is disrupted by the arrival of Jean (Dame Maggie Smith), an eternal diva and the former wife of one of the residents.Bright and fantastic. Great music, good story, amazing performances. 7/10. -02/03/13
- DirectorPeter W. KunhardtStarsGloria SteinemPhyllis SchlaflyHugh Hefner[HBO] HD. A vivid portrait of Gloria Steinem whose career as a journalist and a pivotal member of the feminist movement has left an indelible mark.Very interesting look at a fascinating woman and period in Westren history. 6/10 -02/03/13
- DirectorJohn Lee HancockStarsQuinton AaronSandra BullockTim McGrawThe story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family. Not a bad sports movie, but I did prefer Moneyball. Still not sure how Sandra Bullock got an Oscar for it. 5/10 -02/04/13
- DirectorDaniel CohenStarsJean RenoMichaël YounRaphaëlle AgoguéA veteran chef faces off against his restaurant group's new CEO, who wants to the establishment to lose a star from its rating in order to bring in a younger chef who specializes in molecular gastronomy.Enjoyable and quite funny. Strange to see Jean Reno in something so lightm especially when your main intro to him was Leon. 7/10 -02/09/13
- DirectorTony ScottStarsDenzel WashingtonChris PineRosario DawsonWith an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train barreling toward a city, a veteran engineer and a young conductor race against the clock to prevent a catastrophe.Much better than I was expecting from the orginal trailers. Fairly suspenseful, with some good lighthearted moments. 6/10 -02/09/13
- DirectorSeth GordonStarsJason BatemanMelissa McCarthyJohn ChoMild mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Florida to confront the deceptively harmless looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy's identity.Surprisingly not all the funny stuff was in the trailer. Melissa McCarthy has great chemistry with Jason Bateman. 7/10 -02/10/13
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsEwan McGregorEmily BluntAmr WakedA fisheries expert is approached by a consultant to help realize a sheik's vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert and embarks on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible possible.Stunning vista shots, but what else do you expect from Lasse Haltrom? Decent story, good performances-but I still don't care about fish. 6/10 -02/12/13
