  • Tarzan the Ape Man (1932)

    1. Tarzan the Ape Man

A trader and his daughter set off in search of the fabled graveyard of the elephants in deepest Africa, only to encounter a wild man raised by apes.
DirectorW.S. Van DykeStarsJohnny WeissmullerNeil HamiltonC. Aubrey Smith
The first Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan film is dry and starchy. I had a very hard time sitting through this.
  • Julie Bishop and Buster Crabbe in Tarzan the Fearless (1933)

    2. Tarzan the Fearless

    19331h 26mPassed

Mary Brooks' father, who has been studying ancient tribes, falls into the hands of the people of Zar, god of the Emerald Fingers. Tarzan helps Mary locate her father, rescues everyone from the High Priest of Zar and takes Mary to his cave.
DirectorRobert F. HillStarsBuster CrabbeJulie BishopEdward Woods
Buster Crabbe is great but does this film ever stink! It is not fair to say so because the complete film serial is no longer available and all that remains is the first couple of chapters released as a feature. Maybe one day we will see the complete serial. Until then: Ugghhh
  • Maureen O'Sullivan and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan and His Mate (1934)

    3. Tarzan and His Mate

    19341h 44mPassed

The idyllic life of Tarzan and Jane is challenged by men on safari who come seeking ivory, and come seeking Jane as well.
DirectorsCedric GibbonsJames C. McKayJack ConwayStarsJohnny WeissmullerMaureen O'SullivanNeil Hamilton
The best Johnny Weissmuller-Maureen O'Sullivan Tarzan film. Their playful swim together is beautiful
  • Bruce Bennett in The New Adventures of Tarzan (1935)

    4. The New Adventures of Tarzan

    19354h 17mApproved

Tarzan goes to Guatemala to find his lost friend, D'Arnot. On the way he helps Major Matling search Mayan ruins for hidden jewels and an idol containing the formula for a powerful explosive.
DirectorsEdward A. KullWilbur McGaughStarsBruce BennettUla HoltFrank Baker
Herman Brix makes an amazing Tarzan and the Guatemalan locations are terrific but....this serial is so long and repetitive that you lose interest very quickly. It is best to only see a couple of chapters at a time. Ula Holt is good as the leading lady and Lewis Sargent as George (the comic relief) has a few good scenes.
  • Maureen O'Sullivan, Johnny Sheffield, and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan Finds a Son! (1939)

    5. Tarzan Finds a Son!

Tarzan finds a boy from a crashed plane and raises him with Jane in the jungle. A search party comes looking for the plane.
    DirectorRichard ThorpeStarsJohnny WeissmullerMaureen O'SullivanJohnny Sheffield
I really enjoyed this one. Weissmuller and O'Sullivan are good together again.
  • Frances Gifford and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan Triumphs (1943)

As World War II rages, a formation of German paratroopers land in the hidden city of Palandria to exploit its wealth and they start taking hostages. Can Tarzan, the king of the jungle, and his animal companions Cheeta and Buli save them?
    DirectorWilhelm ThieleStarsJohnny WeissmullerFrances GiffordJohnny Sheffield
Tarzan vs. the Nazis , round one. Silly, silly film.
  • Nancy Kelly, Johnny Sheffield, and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan's Desert Mystery (1943)

    7. Tarzan's Desert Mystery

    19431h 10mApproved
    6.1 (2.3K)
With Jane still away for the war effort, Tarzan and Boy set off to retrieve rare medicinal herbs, only to run into an American messenger, German spies, and the mysterious desert's treacherous fauna and flora.
    DirectorWilhelm ThieleStarsJohnny WeissmullerNancy KellyJohnny Sheffield
Tarzan vs. the Nazis, round two. Ok film. Don't remember that much from it, which is not a good sign.
  • Tarzan and the Amazons (1945)

    8. Tarzan and the Amazons

    19451h 16mApproved
    6.2 (2.7K)
A group of archaeologists asks Tarzan to help them find an ancient city in a hidden valley of women. He refuses, but Boy is tricked into doing the job. The queen of the women asks Tarzan to help them.
    DirectorKurt NeumannStarsJohnny WeissmullerBrenda JoyceJohnny Sheffield
The return of Jane in the form of Brenda Joyce really helps this film. Her reunion with Tarzan is very sweet.
  • Acquanetta, Johnny Sheffield, and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan and the Leopard Woman (1946)

    9. Tarzan and the Leopard Woman

    19461h 12mApproved
    6.0 (2.5K)

    DirectorKurt NeumannStarsJohnny WeissmullerBrenda JoyceJohnny Sheffield
Brenda Joyce is great as Jane. We even have a subplot where a young boy trying to kill Jane!!
  • Brenda Joyce, Patricia Morison, Johnny Sheffield, and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan and the Huntress (1947)

    10. Tarzan and the Huntress

    19471h 12mApproved
    6.0 (2.3K)
To equip the American zoos with as many animals as possible, a cruel trio of big game hunters team up with an unexpected ally, threatening the African fauna. Will Tarzan allow the fiendish huntress to pillage the jungle?
    DirectorKurt NeumannStarsJohnny WeissmullerBrenda JoyceJohnny Sheffield
Enjoyed this one quite a bit. The last appearance by Johnny Sheffield as boy as he had outgrown the role(he is almost as big as Tarzan in this one). Brenda Joyce is great as always as Jane.
  • Linda Christian and Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948)

    11. Tarzan and the Mermaids

    19481h 8mApproved
    5.5 (2.3K)
To escape from an arranged marriage to Aquatania's pagan god, a desperate maiden ends up in Tarzan's fishing net. But soon, he, too, finds himself before a well-planned conspiracy. Can Tarzan save the mermaid from the barbaric idol's will?
    DirectorRobert FloreyStarsJohnny WeissmullerBrenda JoyceGeorge Zucco
Weissmuller's final Tarzan film and not a minute too soon. He was clearly too old at the time. The Mexican locations are terrific and the high dive that killed a stuntman is (sadly) spectacular.
  • Lex Barker and Brenda Joyce in Tarzan's Magic Fountain (1949)

    12. Tarzan's Magic Fountain

    19491h 13mApproved
    5.9 (724)
Tarzan secretly arrives in Blue Valley, the land of the magical fountain of youth, to find the intrepid aviatrix who can save an innocent man. But, is she the same person she used to be? Can Tarzan protect the vale's ultimate mystery?
    DirectorLee SholemStarsLex BarkerBrenda JoyceAlbert Dekker
First Lex Barker Tarzan film with Brenda Joyce in her final appearance as Jane. This one is interesting in that it shows a place where people don't age. Alain Napier is in this. Not a bad start to Barker's Tarzan films.
  • Lex Barker and Vanessa Brown in Tarzan and the Slave Girl (1950)

    13. Tarzan and the Slave Girl

    19501h 14mApproved
    5.6 (688)
As Jane and the local tribeswomen are abducted one by one by the wild Lionians, Tarzan attempts to persuade their prince to accept a potent medicament for his ailing men, while the girls face certain death. Can Tarzan set them free?
    DirectorLee SholemStarsLex BarkerVanessa BrownRobert Alda
Vanessa Brown is lovely as a petite Jane. Her scenes with Denise Darcel are great. The finale is very exciting. Lex Barker is solid as always.
  • Tarzan's Savage Fury (1952)

    14. Tarzan's Savage Fury

Tarzan acts as a guide for two British government agents recently arrived in Africa to secure a great cache of diamonds for the English military. However, the agents are not what they seem.
    DirectorCy EndfieldStarsLex BarkerDorothy HartPatric Knowles
Enjoyed the story of Tarzan's "fake" cousin trying to worm his way into the jungle. Dorothy Hart is the second best Jane (after Brenda Joyce) in my opinion. Barker is good as always.
  • Lex Barker, Joyce Mackenzie, and Monique van Vooren in Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953)

    15. Tarzan and the She-Devil

    19531h 15mPG

Ivory poachers, headed by Lyra the She-Devil, Vargo and Fidel, capture a native tribe to carry their loot. Tarzan intervenes and is captured.
    DirectorKurt NeumannStarsLex BarkerJoyce MackenzieRaymond Burr
Only Raymond Burr as the heavy saves this from being terrible. Too bad this is Barker's last Tarzan film.
  • Lex Barker and Virginia Huston in Tarzan's Peril (1951)

    16. Tarzan's Peril

    19511h 18mApproved
    5.7 (659)
Escaped convicts are selling weapons to a warlike native tribe.
    DirectorByron HaskinStarsLex BarkerVirginia HustonGeorge Macready
Some footage shot in Africa helps. Alain Napier plays a good guy again in this one.
  • Gordon Scott in Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957)

    17. Tarzan and the Lost Safari

    5.7 (681)
Tarzan leads five passengers from a downed airplane out of the jungle. En route, white hunter Hawkins tries to sell them to the Oparian chief. Captured by the Oparians and nearly sacrificed to their lion god, the party is saved by Tarzan.
DirectorH. Bruce HumberstoneStarsGordon ScottRobert BeattyYolande Donlan
Solid entry with Gordon Scott in top form. The film includes sequences actually shot in Africa in color, the way it should be! This one has a very 1950s feel to it. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
  • Gordon Scott in Tarzan and the Trappers (1960)

    18. Tarzan and the Trappers

    19601h 10mNot RatedTV Movie

After dispatching a ruthless hunter who traps animals for gain, Tarzan must contend with his brother who is out for revenge.
DirectorsCharles F. HaasSandy HowardH. Bruce HumberstoneStarsGordon ScottEve BrentRickie Sorensen
What happens when you edit together three dull pilot episodes of an unsold TV series? You get a boring, boring, boring feature film with absolutely no positives whatsoever. Even Gordon Scott can't help this. Almost as bad as the 1981 Bo Derek Tarzan film.
  • Tarzan's Fight for Life (1958)

    19. Tarzan's Fight for Life

    19581h 26mApproved
    5.2 (585)
A doctor calls on Tarzan to topple the native witch doctor whose black magic remedies are killing patients.
DirectorH. Bruce HumberstoneStarsGordon ScottEve BrentRickie Sorensen
This one was OK but the over-reliance on studio shooting puts a damper on viewing this film. After Tarzan and the Lost Safari, how could they go back to shooting almost exclusively in a studio? Woody Strode is wasted here.
  • Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959)

    20. Tarzan's Greatest Adventure

    19591h 28mApproved
    6.4 (1.5K)
Four British villains raid a settlement to obtain explosives for use in a diamond mine. In doing so they nearly destroy the settlement, so and Tarzan pursues them to their mine.
    DirectorJohn GuillerminStarsGordon ScottAnthony QuayleSara Shane
The greatest Tarzan film of all time. Gordon Scott is terrific as is Anthony Quayle as the heavy. This is a tense, nail-biting adventure shot on location in Kenya with an incredible supporting cast that includes a young Sean Connery. If you have never seen a Tarzan film, start here!
  • Tarzan the Magnificent (1960)

    21. Tarzan the Magnificent

    19601h 22mApproved
    6.3 (792)
A clever crook and a romantic triangle complicate Tarzan's efforts to bring a wanted criminal to justice.
DirectorRobert DayStarsGordon ScottJock MahoneyBetta St. John
This is almost as good as Tarzan's Greatest Adventure. Scott is at his best and Jock Mahoney is one evil dude. Funny because, he would go on to play Tarzan in the next two films! I can't forget to mention the good supporting cast with John Carradine as one of the vilest villains ever. Great film.
  • Tarzan Goes to India (1962)

    22. Tarzan Goes to India

    19621h 28mApproved
    5.3 (620)
Summoned to India by a dying maharajah, Tarzan attempts to remove an elephant herd from a valley to be flooded upon completion of a modern dam.
    DirectorJohn GuillerminStarsJock MahoneyLeo GordonMark Dana
I have a very soft spot for this film. Jock Mahoney is great as the Lord of the Jungle. He may be leaner than most Tarzans, but he makes up for it in poise and character. The story is good and the charge of the elephants is very exciting. I absolutely love Tarzan's arrival into India: jumping out of an airplane into a lake!!
  • Tarzan's Three Challenges (1963)

    23. Tarzan's Three Challenges

    19631h 40mApproved
    5.6 (615)
The spiritual leader of an oriental country is dying. The leader's evil brother is plotting to prevent the youthful heir from assuming his rightful position. Tarzan is summoned to protect him and he must face three tests of strength.
    DirectorRobert DayStarsJock MahoneyWoody StrodeTsuruko Kobayashi
I was quite disappointed with this film. It is probably because it seems to run forever(although it is only 92 minutes long) and go nowhere. I am also disturbed by Jock Mahoney's drastic weight loss throughout the film (he became very sick and lost nearly 50 lbs). Too bad. I really think Mahoney was one of the better Tarzans.
  • Mike Henry in Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (1966)

    24. Tarzan and the Valley of Gold

    19661h 30mApproved
    5.8 (614)
Tarzan battles a megalomaniac millionaire named Vinero, who kidnaps a young boy whom he believes can lead him to a legendary city of gold. Vinero is accompanied by his own army, including henchman Mr. Train and gorgeous Sophia.
DirectorRobert DayStarsMike HenryDavid OpatoshuManuel Padilla Jr.
Groovy 1960s James Bond type of Tarzan film with spectacular Mexican locations. Mike Henry is just too wooden in the role but the film makes up for this in sheer action and excitement.
  • Mike Henry and Diana Millay in Tarzan and the Great River (1967)

    25. Tarzan and the Great River

    19671h 28mG
    5.3 (457)
In Brazil, Dr. Ann Philips tries to inoculate the superstitious natives against an epidemic. The murderous Jaguar Men oppose the intrusion. The natives take heart when the riverboat captain's helper Pepe volunteers for the first shot.
DirectorRobert DayStarsMike HenryJan MurrayManuel Padilla Jr.
Only Jan Murray's hilarious performance makes this film watchable. Henry is so wooden as Tarzan that you think you'll get splinters watching him! The Brazilian locations are good but they have spliced in footage of Hippos and other animals that are not native to Brazil. What were they thinking?
