At the age of eleven, Arne Hellmer is the only one to have survived the suicide of his family and now is a foster child from the family of Harald, a close friend of his father. Adriana, on the other hand, cannot cope with her role as a mother, despite the support of her husband Jobst. The young woman suffers from postnatal depression and takes refuge in numerous occupations. Meanwhile, Sophia is happy to step in and look after her supposed grandchild as a babysitter. She finds it increasingly difficult to give the baby back - when Adriane discovers that Sophia is breastfeeding her baby, there is a scandal.

Things start to go wrong, well-known procedures don't work anymore, hopes and expectations of all kinds turn into disappointments.
