Hard boiled gangster movies , early film noir , fast paced comedies , melodramas , the best women's pictures , hard hitting social exposes - with a few exceptions all as fast as B movies . Grew up watching these films - a few by other studios , but most of the good ones were Warner Bros . Avoiding musicals , the lighter comedies , with a few westerns , and a few of the epics - from 1929 to the early fifties. In rough order of the main stars -
