AGH The Essential Documentaries
This is not conspiracy BS albeit some of them slant left or right. Warning: The truth is rather scary and its so much easier just to watch Seinfeld reruns.

- 10 titles
- DirectorCullen HobackStarsMax SchremsMobyMark ZuckerbergA documentary that exposes what corporations and governments learn about people through Internet and cell phone usage, and what can be done about it ... if anything. If you are unaware of what that title means then you will be shocked. My synopsis of the movie's point.
"Orson Wells book/prediction "1984" was about 20 years off. Big Brother is not coming. He has been here since at least 2004. And he never archives any data."
Of special note (to me) was the story and interviews with Thomas Andrews Drake. This guy tried to blow the whistle on NSA abuses before Ed Snowden. Drake was squelched but Snowden learned valuable lessons on how to get the info out there. And there is a very short clip of senate hearings held by Al Franken on smart phone privacy. He bar-b-ques some executive from phone co. - DirectorAlex GibneyStarsJulian AssangeAdrian LamoJohn 'FuzzFace' McMahonA documentary that details the creation of Julian Assange's controversial website, which facilitated the largest security breach in U.S. history. This Alex Gibney documentary is not just another expose on Julian Assange. In fact, it paints him as rather pathetic. Of special interest are the candid interviews with Former NSA and CIA Director Michael Hayden. Also included is the back story on Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley Manning) who was the young man who blew the whistle on the all many abuses and often illegal actions of the US in Iraq.
- DirectorJacob KornbluthStarsRobert ReichCandice BergenConan O'BrienA documentary that follows former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich as he looks to raise awareness of the country's widening economic gap.Entertaining and funny, Robert Reich (secretary of labor for Clinton's first term) has been trying to save the middle class since the 70s!!
- DirectorAlex GibneyStarsJohn BeardTim BeldenBarbara BoxerA documentary about the Enron corporation, its faulty and corrupt business practices, and how they led to its fall.Old news but the devil is in the details. Details of the absolute unbridled greed of these white collar thugs.
- DirectorCharles FergusonStarsMatt DamonGylfi ZoegaAndri Snær MagnasonTakes a closer look at what brought about the 2008 financial meltdown. The story of what and who REALLY brought about the 2008 financial meltdown. And not one individual was criminally charged. In fact, many are back in power again.
- DirectorsVictoria BruceKarin HayesStarsJames S. HenryChuck CollinsBernie SandersAn exposé on how the government has allowed U.S. corporations to avoid paying taxes and the growing wave of discontent that it has fostered. You won't find this info on the 6pm news. And if this one begins to upset you then you probably should stop now. The rest of this list just gets progressively darker.
- DirectorErrol MorrisStarsRobert McNamaraJohn F. KennedyFidel CastroThe story of America as seen through the eyes of the former Secretary of Defense under President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson, Robert McNamara.A candid interview with the Secretary of Defense during Vietnam. He almost apologizes.
- DirectorErrol MorrisStarsDonald RumsfeldErrol MorrisFormer United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, discusses his career in Washington D.C. from his days as a congressman in the early 1960s to planning the invasion of Iraq in 2003.A NOT candid interview with the Secretary of Defense during Iraq War. He does not apologize and in one sequence he makes a cavalier statement on the failures there (paraphrasing) like "Sometimes Stuff Happens". The highlight is when he reads "The Swamp Memo". You just cannot make this stuff up!!
- DirectorPeter DavisStarsTin ChanChau DiemNgo Dinh DiemA startling and courageous landmark documentary that unflinchingly confronted the United States' involvement in Vietnam at the height of the controversy that surrounded it.History does repeat itself.
- DirectorsDavid J. BurkeDave HagenStarsVincent BugliosiGeorge W. BushElizabeth de la VegaFamed Charles Manson prosecutor and New York Times bestselling author Vincent Bugliosi makes the most powerful, explosive, and thought-provoking argument of his storied career. In "The Prosecution of an American President", Bugliosi presents a meticulously researched legal case that proves George W. Bush took our nation to war in Iraq under false pretenses and is therefore, under the law, guilty of murder for the deaths of 4,500 young American soldiers who fought and died there. Bush's unlawful war also cost the United States over a trillion dollars; alienated many of our allies; caused the deaths of over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children; and pushed a previously tranquil nation into unending civil war, atrocities and chaos. As a prosecutor dedicated to seeking justice, Bugliosi delivers a non-partisan argument based on hard facts and pure objectivity. This searing indictment also outlines a legally credible pathway to holding our highest government officials accountable for their actions, thereby creating a framework for future occupants of the Oval Office. Ultimately, Bugliosi calls for the United States to return to the great nation it once was.If you buy in to Vincent Bugliosi's evidence, this movie is about as dark as dark can get. Bugliosi succinctly points out the evidence to charge Bush 43 with murder due to lying about reasons for Iraq War.
