Smugglers are using a device for controlling airplanes in flight, and newspaper reporters from Chicago are vying for the story. Reporter Elmer Lane is out to scoop rival reporter Betty Harrison, and capture her heart in the process.

Reporter Patsy Reynolds (Robin Raymond) and photographer Eddie Porter (Frank Jenks) are assigned to interview John Foster (Davison Clark), head of the Emmerson Foundation regarding a listening device the organization is working on. Foster evades them and they go to the lab to see Professor Reynolds (H. B. Warner), the real inventor. Soon, they are involved in several shootings, blueprints that change hands several times, a corpse in their car that appears and disappears a few times, the loss of their jobs and several people who either think they are killers or candidates for being killed.

After being mistakenly certified as an electrical engineer, Buster is hired to wire a house.

Four animal musicians consisting of a Horse, Cat, Dog, and Rooster set out on their own quest to try to find some fame by playing their own music. Unfortunately, everywhere they go, trouble occurs whether they are being chased by town folk, a swordfish, or being attacked by an army.

Alice leaves her home and has asked her cat to take care of the house. But the rats are trying to keep the cat out of their way, especially, when they discover Alice's home-brew, it is not that difficult...

Alice and Julius are going to stage a bullfight. Their bull is a broken-down old cow. They fix it up with some rollerskates. A family of cats uses a see-saw to catapult themselves over the fence; a cop (dog) spots them, but ends up helping them by accident. Julius replaces the bull with a more presentable one from a tobacco billboard for the introduction to the crowd. Alice fights the sad cow, sending her into a cactus; this makes her mad enough to really fight. Time for another swap: Julius dresses as a pantomime cow, and Alice throws him across the ring...

Alice and Julius are driving a train, which is carrying a large payroll. Pete the Bear and his gang find out about it and devise a plan to rob the train.

High jinks and chills ensue after a group of people become stranded at an isolated station and a legendary phantom train approaches.

With the help of a relative, a hopeless railway employee is made stationmaster of Buggleskelly. Determined to make his mark, he devises a number of schemes to put Buggleskelly on the railway map, but instead falls foul of a gang of gun runners.

Nancy helps two aging spinsters fulfill the byzantine provisions of their father's will, but the murder of their chauffeur complicates matters.
