Black and white rectangular images fade in and out of the screen. Their movement make them sometimes look like they're panning from side to side. Their movement also make the black and white individually change from foreground to background and visa versa.

A tilted figure, consisting largely of right angles at the beginning, grows by accretion, with the addition of short straight lines and curves which sprout from the existing design. The figure vanishes and the process begins again with a new pattern, each cycle lasting one or two seconds. The complete figures are drawn in a vaguely Art Deco style and could be said to resemble any number of things, an ear, a harp, panpipes, a grand piano with trombones, and so on, only highly stylized. The tone is playful and hypnotic.

In the documentary INTERFACE media artist and director Harun Farocki examines his own media work and explores what it means to work with existing imagery rather than producing one's own, new images. Harun Farocki was commissioned by the Lille Museum of Modern Art in France to produce a video "about his work". His creation was an installation for two screens that was presented within the scope for the 1995 exhibition "The World of Photography". The film INTERFACE developed out of that installation. The German title of the film is SCHNITTSTELLE and it plays on the double meaning of "Schnitt" (cut), referring both to Farocki's workplace, the editing table, as well as the "human-machine interface", where a person operates a computer using a keyboard and a mouse. Hito Steyerl's light-hearted picture translations are about fastening things in an elegant-obscene way: In Tokyo she is looking for a photo series that she posed for in 1987 as a "rope bondage" model. While making inquiries with experts and authorities in the bondage arts (which are mainly marketed online nowadays), she found what she was looking for in a magazine archive. The cinematic tension is extremely high just now says the translator while Steyerl looks through photos of herself from her days as a film student.
