WWII - The German experience
Mostly German produced WWII movies including "Rubble cinema" post war German films usually only reflecting on the war but filmed in the ruins of Berlin. Also included US/UK productions depicting the German viewpoint, the best of which in my opinion is probably "The one that got away" not least because of Kruger and the fact he actually spent a short time as a POW, Robert Altman's "Ten seconds to hell" is worth a look for the ruined Berlin locations and "A time to love and a time to die" visually stunning, sympathetic and some beautiful cinematography.
Not included are the numerous movies which depict both sides ie "The longest day" "Battle of the bulge" etc. and some which didn't quite make the grade in my opinion such as a couple of "macaroni combat" movies and "The eagle has landed"

For Gustav, Willi and their friends the rubble provides an adventurous, dangerous playground. Especially for Gustav, it helps pass the time, as he longs for his father's return from a POW camp. One day a stranger arrives, looking helpless and hopeless... Gerhard Lamprecht built his reputation during the 1920s and '30s with films like Emil and the Detectives (1931, script Billy Wilder) and socially-critical Berlin films based on the drawings of Heinrich Zille. In Somewhere in Berlin-his first postwar film, made just months after the cessation of hostilities-he portrays the people of the shattered city with precision and psychological realism.
