From the Universal synopsis: Retired Inspector Blake of Scotland Yard learns that Lord Blanton has acquired the sacred "Love Ring"---a cursed jewel that has brought grief to its previous owners. Blake and his servant, Jarvis, find a card---The Queen of Diamonds---which is the mark of the most dangerous woman in the underworld. Mary Duveen , the Blanton housekeeper, is really the Queen, disguising herself as a spectacularly ugly crone. Darius comes to believe that Lady Diana Blanton, Lord Blanton's daughter, is the reincarnation of Princess Xah Fari, and sets his sights on her also. His hypnotic influence soon has the girl experiencing dreams of a vanished civilization. Mary acquires the ring and Jarvis recovers it and Mary steals it back and plants it on Lady Di, and then lures her to a Limehouse den but Blake and Jarvis follow and rescue her and the ring. Learning that Diana intends to give the ring to Darius, to end the effects of the curse, Blake substitutes a copy. He accuses Mary of theft, and reveals evidence that the real Queen of Diamonds is in prison, and she admits to being an agent for a wealthy American collector who seeks the ring. She assumed the guise of the Queen in order to gain the cooperation of the underworld. Blake persuades her to assist him against Darius, who he believes to be "Diamond" Donovan, an international criminal. But Darius convinces Diana that Blake and Mary are working against her, and she turns against the Scotland Yard man.

In time, the captain's wife and child die, and his nephew Hal becomes a sailor. In a drunken brawl, Hal steals the captain's savings and arouses the fear of his sweetheart, Laura. In a battle, Hal is wounded with a poisonous Malay sword, and Dr. Philiol succeeds in mixing the indicated remedy just in time to save his life. After a long illness, Hal reforms, regains the love of his aged uncle, and wins the hand of Laura.

Bob Perry loses his temper and threatens to kill a scandalmonger who is spreading gossip about the affections paid by Neil Drake to Bob's girl, Rose Hill. When the man is found dead, Bob is arrested and convicted for murder while the actual killer, Neil Drake, goes free. The sentence of death is about to be executed when two children find Drake's cap in a nearby brook. Kate, Bob's sister, feeling certain that Drake is the murderer, entices him to use a Ouija board and forces a confession through its revelations. She rushes the written confession to the governor, who at the last minute pardons Bob.

In South Africa, a worker in a diamond mine is sentenced to death for stealing a huge diamond he found in the mine. Before he dies he passes the stone to a local girl, Musa. Known as the "Shah" diamond, it eventually winds up in New York City. Complications ensue, involving a wealthy society matron, her jealous husband, a gang of vicious jewel thieves and a brutal gangster who owns a nightclub.

Doris Harvey is just returning to her New York home from a fashionable girls' school, when she learns of her father's financial ruin. John Harvey, a diamond importer, operating individually, has been crushed by a powerful diamond syndicate. He cannot stand the thought of failure and rushes home to kill himself. Doris, after a wild dash in an automobile, assisted by a young man named Bruce Weston, reaches her father's side just after the fatal shot was fired. Bruce Weston is a member of the diamond syndicate, but was not a party to the ruin of Harvey. He falls in love with Doris and assists her in fighting the gang sent by the syndicate to obtain incriminating papers left by her father. The trend of events takes all of the principal characters to the diamond mines of Africa. Doris is captured by natives in the jungle and set up as their ruler.
