The fall of the empire was only a matter of time as Zolt occupied all territories of the other Emperor-electors except for Archbishop Milange. Milange decided to bestow the title of knight and legendary power upon a man as his last hope. The player takes the role of this man and pilots the giant magical robots known as Frame Gride to face the rebel forces.

At Huffman Island, located in the the pacific ocean, wanzers are deployed by both the USN (United States of the New Continent) and the OCU (Oceana Community Union), who dispute ownership over the island. One night, the OCU forces stage a covert recon mission on a facility located in Larcus, a USN-held territory and weapons facility. Lead by a soldier named Roid, this mission was entirely unofficial and violated the peace treaty. During the mission, USN forces lead by Commander Driscoll appeared and ambushed the OCU soldiers. During the combat, Roid's fiance, Karen is killed and the USN facility is blown up; placing the blame on the OCU. This became known as the "Larcus Incident" and the OCU denied all knowledge of it's soldiers actions. Ultimately it would be a leading cause to the second Huffman War.

The in-game soundtrack is techno, and much like SCEI's Vib-Ribbon, iS can dynamically change the environments based off of music from inserted CDs in certain modes. The game is very similar in terms of gameplay and style to Rez, and actually was released nearly 3 years earlier.

- The famous painter Mamiya Ichirou lived many years in a secluded mansion, and rumor says there are some valuable frescos to find inside.
