A Navajo tribe suffers mistreatment by an Indian-hating agent who steals their horses. When WWI breaks out, a teacher convinces the tribe leader that enlisting will lead to better treatment.

Desperate for money, a rancher decides to trap and sell wild horses, using barbed wire. The local Navajo tribe tries to persuade him not to do it.

Mortimer Grandon, clerk in a drug store, is ambitious to get into pictures. He travels to the company's location in a freight car, and is forced to change clothes with an outlaw. He blunders into the company making scenes and gets into a fist fight. He finally wins out and wins the leading lady's hand.

Tex Hartwell comes to the aid of an old cobbler by protecting him from the blows and insults of Jim Mackey, a skinflint banker. Mackey orders his hired guns to get Tex, but Tex is too quick for them. On the strength of his fast draw, Tex is hired as a trail rider by Dee Winch, being given the job of keeping diseased cattle off Winch's grasslands. Mackey's men later stampede a herd of infected cattle onto Winch's land, and Tex is fired in disgrace. Fanny Goodnight informs Tex that Mackey is the leader of the cattle runners, and Tex forces him to sign a confession to that effect. The old cobbler later kills Mackey, Tex is cleared with the cattlemen, and he and Fanny decide to ride a trail of their own together.

In 1876, a band of buffalo hunters assembles at Sprague's Trading Post and is joined by Tom Doan, fresh from a Kansas farm. At the post, Tom meets, and falls in love with, Milly Fayre, the stepdaughter of Randall Jett, the leader of a gang of notorious outlaws who make a brutal living robbing buffalo hunters. Milly and Tom are separated, and there is an Indian uprising sparked by the irresponsible slaughtering of the buffalo herds by white adventurers. Jett is killed by his own men, and Milly escapes, attempting to make her way back to civilization. She is chased by a party of hostile Indians and falls in front of a herd of stampeding buffalo. Tom rescues her. The buffalo hunters subdue the Indians, and Tom and Milly head back to civilization.

A ranch foreman, rebuffed by his boss' daughter, turns the ranch into a tourist mecca. The girl leaves the ranch, but eventually she returns with her new fiancé, who she says is a rich European, and they plan to get married at the ranch. Her engagement doesn't discourage the foreman, however, and finally her fiancé orders his servants to kidnap him and keep him under wraps until the wedding. The foreman finds out some damaging information about his love's "rich European" fiancée, and has to find a way to escape captivity and stop the wedding.

Captain Deane, Major Burleigh and their troops are attacked by a band of hostile Native Americans. Although the soldiers have been ordered to avoid a direct military confrontation, the vainglorious Major Burleigh insists on counterattacking. Deane refuses and Burleigh orders his arrest for insubordination and cowardice. Meanwhile, Deane and his men come to the defense of Elinor Folsom when another hostile band attacks her isolated ranch. After Deane is cleared of the charges, he defeats Burleigh in a fistfight, but Helen's father, John Folsom, convinces the major to not report the incident. Deane is then ordered to convey a military payroll, and Burleigh incites a group of Indians to intercept him. Elinor learns of the plot and rides to warn Deane. As they fight for their lives, the cavalry comes to the rescue. Burleigh is fatally shot and confesses that he, not Deane, has the payroll money. Later, a wedding ceremony is held for Elinor and Captain Deane.

Collegian Angelica "Trix" Varden, willful daughter of William Varden, after a midnight spread of lobster and ice cream, has a dream about an adventure on her father's ranch involving her horse Beverly, one Jack Norton, and Buck Barlow's gang of rustlers. She is expelled from school and returns home to find a handsome new foreman, who is none other than Jack Norton. Trix's curiosity is aroused by her dream, and she finds evidence of rustlers. Barlow shows up, and she locks herself in a cabin and sends Jack's horse, Star, for help. Jack finally defeats Barlow in a fight, and the two horses "realize" that they now have both a master and a mistress.

While building an irrigation system for a Southwestern desert community, an engineer vies with a local cowboy for the affections of a rancher's daughter.

Lee Purdy, the owner of a ranch on "Enchanted Hill," is subjected to repeated attacks by unknown assailants. He meets Gail Ormsby, the owner of the neighboring Box K Ranch, and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Ira Todd, Gail's crooked foreman, fills her head with lies about Lee, whom she unjustly comes to hate. In a pitched battle between the men from Enchanted Hill and those from the Box K, Todd's men are routed. Lee then learns that Todd (in league with a banker who knows that there is gold on Lee's land) has attempted to frighten him off by means of the repeated attacks. The law steps in, and Lee and Gail renew their courtship.

Lightning Jack becomes heir to a ranch jointly with Donaldeen Travis, an eastern society girl who evinces an instant dislike to him. Currier King, a neighboring rancher, takes a fancy to Donaldeen and openly courts her despite the fact that he already has a wife. Donaldeen learns that King is married and gives him the cold shoulder, angering him so greatly that he abducts her. Jack and some of his men ride to her rescue, and Donaldeen finally admits to herself that she has come to love Jack truly.

A gunslinger looking for a quiet place to settle down becomes entangled in a romantic triangle and the hunt for a gang of cattle rustlers.
