Mackey's men later stampede a herd of infected cattle onto Winch's land, and Tex is fired in disgrace. Fanny Goodnight informs Tex that Mackey is the leader of the cattle runners, and Tex forces him to sign a confession to that effect. The old cobbler later kills Mackey, Tex is cleared with the cattlemen, and he and Fanny decide to ride a trail of their own together.

Milly and Tom are separated, and there is an Indian uprising sparked by the irresponsible slaughtering of the buffalo herds by white adventurers. Jett is killed by his own men, and Milly escapes, attempting to make her way back to civilization. She is chased by a party of hostile Indians and falls in front of a herd of stampeding buffalo. Tom rescues her. The buffalo hunters subdue the Indians, and Tom and Milly head back to civilization.

The foreman finds out some damaging information about his love's "rich European" fiancée, and has to find a way to escape captivity and stop the wedding.

After Deane is cleared of the charges, he defeats Burleigh in a fistfight, but Helen's father, John Folsom, convinces the major to not report the incident. Deane is then ordered to convey a military payroll, and Burleigh incites a group of Indians to intercept him. Elinor learns of the plot and rides to warn Deane. As they fight for their lives, the cavalry comes to the rescue. Burleigh is fatally shot and confesses that he, not Deane, has the payroll money. Later, a wedding ceremony is held for Elinor and Captain Deane.

Barlow shows up, and she locks herself in a cabin and sends Jack's horse, Star, for help. Jack finally defeats Barlow in a fight, and the two horses "realize" that they now have both a master and a mistress.

Lee then learns that Todd (in league with a banker who knows that there is gold on Lee's land) has attempted to frighten him off by means of the repeated attacks. The law steps in, and Lee and Gail renew their courtship.
