In a cantina across the border, Bob Hamlin shoots a man that threatens his friend. He and his pals escape but return that night for the dance as Bob is attracted to Conchita. Running once more from the Rurales, Bob takes Conchita. They escape again only to find themselves pinned down when Buck and his gang of horse thieves attack.

Notorious Mexican bandit El Malo forces the Mayor of Sierra Blanca, Seth Landport, to open the safe and turn over to him 2,000 pesos, which the bandit gives a promissory note for to the Mayor. Seth rushes to the cantina where Sheriff Rankin is drinking, and the sheriff posts a reward for the capture of El Malo. El Malo informs his men of the reward. The bandit and his sidekick Pedro visit the cantina where Pedro resumes a former acquaintance with Dolores, while El Malo has his attention directed to a tango being performed by Carmita. El Malo pushes her dancing partner aside and finishes the dance with Carmita. Since Seth's description of him is inaccurate, "El May" visits the sheriff and promises to deliver the wanted bandit to the cantina the following night. The next morning, El Malo and Pedro depart and, halting their horses on a hill, they view the stagecoach being held up by a trio of outlaws. They follow the outlaws to their hideout, where they discover the leader is the trusted town-mayor Seth. El Malo tells him to be in the cantina that night. Then things get involved, including the wrath of the displaced tango partner. El Malo handles it all without breaking a sweat.

When the ancient continent of Mu sank beneath the ocean, some of its inhabitant survived in caverns beneath the sea. Cowboy singer Gene Autry stumbles upon the civilization, now buried beneath his own Radio Ranch. The Muranians have developed technology and weaponry such as television and ray guns. Their rich supply of radium draws unscrupulous speculators from the surface. The peaceful civilization of the Muranians is corrupted by the greed from above, and it becomes Autry's task to prevent all-out war, ideally without disrupting his regular radio show.

Wertheimer, a New York radio talent scout, shows up at Uncle Jed's barn dance having received numerous letters from Nancy Shackelford, the adopted daughter of Uncle Jed Shackelford, telling him about the musical talents of Bob and the other four farm-hand musicians. He hires the boys for a new radio program to be known as "The Old Homestead" broadcast from New York. Nancy and Uncle Jed accompany them, the latter as their manager. The show is a hit and Nancy is thrilled, especially when she meets famous crooner Rudy Nash. Elsie Wilson, Rudy's partner, resents the attention Rudy shows Nancy, and Bob takes an immediate dislike to Rudy. The band goes to a night club and get high on champagne which they think is cider. Peggy joins the boys in their clowning after the regular entertainers quit in indignation. Nancy and Rudy enter the café, and when the proprietor realizes that Nancy and (primarily) Rudy knows the boys, he offers them $1,250 a week to perform at the club. The jealous Elsie decides to make a play for Bob at the hotel where she too is staying. Slightly inebriated, she invites Bob up her suite. Nancy and Bob have a bitter quarrel when she returns and sees the imprint of Elsie's lips on Bob's cheek. The next morning, press agent Pratt and Wertheimer show up with two suitcases of fan mail for the "Farm Boys" and Bob's head begins to swell, as he thinks he is the attraction of the group and really believes he is "the golden voice of the air." Bob gets a show of his own, and Uncle Jed meets Peggy and is attracted to her. Three weeks later, Nancy and Bob are no longer speaking, Uncle Jed is spending money on Peggy, and Rudy is overwhelming Nancy with his attentions. Twice Bob has been late for a broadcast and Wertheimer tells him if he is late again, the sponsors will cancel him. Uncle Jed, who has no intentions of proposing, buys a diamond ring for Peggy and unthinkingly slips it on her engagement finger. She allows as how she'll be right proud to be Mrs. Jed Shackelford. Peggy is actually happy at the chance of marrying Jed and quitting New York for Uncle Jed's farm, but Nancy doesn't believe her. Bob gets a visit from Elsie's husband who threatens an alienation suit. Nancy tells him that she and Bob are engaged and that Elise is her best friend. he husband departs, and Nancy tells Bob of Rudy's proposal to her. He wishes her good luck and leaves for the farm without telling anyone.

Ace returns to the town where he is suspected of murder. He quickly become involved in the scheme to keep Barbara Roberts from reaching her ranch. To inherit the ranch she must reach it by midnight. Ace agrees to get her there knowing she is the widow of the man he supposedly killed.

As the sheriff of a small Western town, Autry sings his way into a relationship with Eleanor, a singer from a Chicago nightclub who earlier witnessed a murder.

The small church Ted Burke pastors in a small Western town struggles to thrive as all the men gather at Jack Higgins' Mustang Saloon every Sunday. Burke decides to ask Higgins to close his business on Sunday, but Higgins' only concern is to find a baritone to sing in the saloon's quartet, and has his henchies toss Ted out into the street. Ted decides to fight fire with fire, so he gathers up the down-and-out vaudeville act of Chase and Chase (who don't take long to show why they are down-and-out), knife-thrower Steve Clemente, and a dozen or so Western musicians from Gower Gulch as the before-the-sermon at his tabernacle. Higgins sends his rowdies over to bust up the Sunday-morning competition.
