Bad Surge's Rubbish: Films That Sucked
A collection of films I watched from beginning to end, and ultimately despised.
Some of them had their moments, but overall they weren't good movies.
Is there another celluloid turd of which you know that I didn't list!?
Are you a fan of any of these stinkers?
Or do you dislike them as well?

- DirectorFouad MikatiStarsJoe AndersonRob CorddryEllen BarkinA battle ensues among groups of government spy teams in an underground facility after their boss is assassinated.I read the original script before production, loved it. Saw the cast a few months later, loved it. Found it at red box and saw the cover, loved it. Took it home and watched it, felt sick by the time the credits were rolling.
- DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsElisabeth ShueJerry O'ConnellRichard DreyfussAfter a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents.Even Christopher Lloyd throwing in a rare performance couldn't save this sexually exploitative *beep* festival. Predictable and way too far over the top in terms of gore. Some people call it satire, or a campy homage to camp cinema. I call that straw man.
- DirectorJon HarrisStarsMichael J. ReynoldsShauna MacdonaldJessika WilliamsRefusing to believe her story about cave-dwelling monsters, the sole survivor of a spelunking exploration gone horribly wrong is forced to follow the authorities back into the caves where something awaits.Loved the first one, though I thought there was room for improvement. Redboxed this a few years after the originals release, haven't been able to watch either since. They took a good story and ran it into the ground.
- DirectorMarcus NispelStarsJared PadaleckiAmanda RighettiDerek MearsA group of young adults visit a boarded up campsite named Crystal Lake where they soon encounter the mysterious Jason Voorhees and his deadly intentions. No one on earth was more excited for a sprinting Jason than me. The trailer got me all revved up. Went to the theater to watch it, saw the trailer play again in the first 20 minutes, and Jason never sprinted again. Much like my heart. Cliche, illogical, more holes than fishnet stockings.
- DirectorJohn SimpsonStarsKatheryn WinnickLaura BreckenridgeJessica LucasThree women are stalked by a killer with a grudge that extends back to the girls' childhoods.Concept sounded interesting, creepy trailer. The film however, moved at the pace of a sporadic heart attack, with a contrived ending that made me ashamed to be a fan of the horror genre.
- DirectorSamuel BayerStarsJackie Earle HaleyRooney MaraKyle GallnerThe spectre of a disfigured man haunts the children of the parents who murdered him, stalking and killing them in their dreams.I can't believe I'm saying this, but Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley couldn't hold a candle to Robert Englund's Freddy. Especially using the Rorschach voice. Stupid cameo from underrated actor Aaron Woo. Interesting re-approach to the Springwood Slasher mythology, but not enough to save the films rehashing of Craven's old scares verbatim.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsShia LaBeoufMegan FoxJosh DuhamelSam Witwicky leaves the Autobots behind for a normal life. But when his mind is filled with cryptic symbols, the Decepticons target him and he is dragged back into the Transformers' war. It's like Michael Bay didn't care at all about logic or reason. He just wanted to make a movie with smoking hot chicks, explosions, and wacky robot hijinks, and NOTHING more. You couldn't pay me to watch this movie again. When I want hot chicks and explosions, I go back to 70's-80's camp classics. The wacky robot hijinks I can do without.
- DirectorTimur BekmambetovStarsAngelina JolieJames McAvoyMorgan FreemanA frustrated office worker discovers that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father's superhuman killing abilities.Guessed every twist in the movie within the first twenty minutes. Ruined it for my ex and my friend. And this was before I read the far superior graphic novel.
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsNoah RingerNicola Peltz BeckhamJackson RathboneAang, a young successor to a long line of Avatars, must master all four elements and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom.Tidal wave does not equal giant water koi fish monster. Raise the makeup budget and cut back on the cgi budget, M Night. Like in The Sixth Sense.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsAlison LohmanJustin LongRuth LivierA loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.Predictable to the point of making me think I'd already watched it. Last second twist was extremely contrived, served no purpose except to attempt to give the audience one last scare.
- DirectorRobert LuketicStarsJim SturgessKate BosworthKevin SpaceyInspired by real events and people, 21 is about six MIT students who become trained to be experts in card counting in blackjack and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings. If I wanted to watch Kevin Spacey hit on young englishmen, I'd visit him in his private life. One cliche after another until for the first time in my life I walked out of the theater. I tried watching it all the way through months later, didn't help my opinion of it.
- DirectorBryan BertinoStarsScott SpeedmanLiv TylerGemma WardJames Hoyt and Kristen McKay visit an isolated vacation home to enjoy some time together. However, they are in for a rude surprise when three masked assailants make their stay a nightmare.Solid film for about 20 to 30 minutes, then it all goes to hell and we lose all relation with the two stars. I would've lived through this crisis.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSam WorthingtonZoe SaldañaSigourney WeaverA paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.A film looking amazing doesn't make it an amazing film. Another gem where I guessed the entire story in 15 minutes.
- DirectorJimmy HaywardStarsJosh BrolinMegan FoxJohn MalkovichIn exchange for his freedom, bounty hunter Jonah Hex must track down a terrorist with a superweapon.I may have judged this one too early but I can't focus on it when try to watch it on TV. Normally only happens during *beep* movies. What I've been able to pay attention to I didn't like.
- DirectorRob ZombieStarsScout Taylor-ComptonTyler ManeMalcolm McDowellLaurie Strode struggles to come to terms with her brother Michael's deadly return to Haddonfield, Illinois; meanwhile, Michael prepares for another reunion with his sister.Super slasher powers where the killer can be at 5 different locations at once, ironically when the victims are finally alone and ready to die. Way to go, Zombie. And good luck keeping your wife relevant in the entertainment industry. WHAT WAS WITH THAT DAMN GHOST HORSE?
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsMark WahlbergZooey DeschanelJohn LeguizamoA science teacher, his wife, and a young girl struggle to survive a plague that causes those infected to commit suicide.Shocking images don't make a thriller if everything else in the movie is boring and depressing, not to mention ludicrous and vague. Not ambiguous, as the director would like you to believe, but vague and confusing. A movie with no ending.
- DirectorBen KetaiStarsKiele SanchezRhys CoiroDiora BairdAfter surviving the incidents in Barrow, Alaska, Stella Oleson relocates to Los Angeles, where she intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben.Stock action characters reveal right away that this is a film you've already seen. One or two original shots and ideas aside, it's every horror thriller you've ever seen.
- DirectorNimród AntalStarsAdrien BrodyLaurence FishburneTopher GraceA group of elite warriors parachute into an unfamiliar jungle and are hunted by members of a merciless alien race.No sense was made during this entire film. One solitary shot of the sky with large planets visible, out of nowhere, and then NEVER AGAIN. A waste of Lawrence Fishburne's involvement. It was like watching a live stage performance that's free of charge. It was like watching kids play make-believe.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordCate BlanchettShia LaBeoufSet in 1957, it pits Indiana Jones against Soviet KGB agents led by Irina Spalko searching for a telepathic crystal skull located in Peru.God, was this sloppily made. Nothing caught me off guard or interested me, unlike every Indy film prior to this. The whole movie could be featured in the "Cliche Catchphrase catalogue": "I'm getting too old for this!" was the heart of this film.
- DirectorJohn PogueStarsMercedes MasonJosh CookeMattie LiptakA plane is taken over by a mysterious virus. When the plane lands it is placed under quarantine. Now a group of survivors must band together to survive the quarantine.Waste of a perfectly good franchise. The spansih sequel was superior to all installments of this franchise, English or Spanish. Wouldve been better if we couldn't guess the conclusion.
- DirectorHenry SaineStarsKyle DavisDevin McGinnMatt BauerJeff is an ordinary guy that is stuck at a dead end job with a boring life, but when a strange old man gives him an Ancient relic and tells him that he is the last bloodline of H.P. Lovecraft, He and his friend Charlie embark on an adventure to protect the relic piece from falling into the hands of the Starspawn and his minions that wish to reunite the relic and release Cthulhu back into the world. What the hell was this garbage?
- DirectorJean-François RichetStarsEthan HawkeLaurence FishburneGabriel ByrneA police sergeant must rally the cops and prisoners together to protect themselves on New Year's Eve, just as corrupt policeman surround the station with the intent of killing all to keep their deception in the ranks.Way to *beep* on John Carpenter's legacy of creating a tense, frightening situation anywhere. The cops are more melodramatic then all of the female leads inside the station combined. Did things to try to be original, came off like a video game (aka it would never happen like this, so the illusion of fusing the story with reality that the cinematography hints at is contradictory to the point of being painful).
- DirectorsDavid MoreauXavier PaludStarsOlivia BonamyMichaël CohenAdriana MoccaLucas and Clementine live peacefully in their isolated country house, but one night they wake up to strange noise... they're not alone... and a group of hooded assailants begin to terrorize them throughout the night.Dear God, this farfetched piece of cinematic drivel is EXTREMELY overrated to the point of sheer, mind numbing monotony. The leads do stupid, un-relatable things and earn their conclusion. No wonder this spawned The Strangers.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsChristina RicciJesse EisenbergPortia de RossiA werewolf loose in Los Angeles changes the lives of three young adults who, after being mauled by the beast, learn they must kill it in order to avoid becoming werewolves themselves.Do I really need to explain this one?
- DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsCécile de FranceMaïwennPhilippe NahonBest friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But on the night of their arrival, the girls' idyllic getaway turns into an endless night of horror.THIS ENDING IS DONE TO DEATH. And that was before this crap even came out. Random things thrown in for shock value and faux originality. The firs two acts are mysterious, shocking, and engrossing. The third act is enough to make me want to bomb France.
