Members of a family are separated in a natural disaster. Several years down the line, they aren't united but their lives are strangely interconnected.

Preeti lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay along with her widower dad, Heerachand, and is a medical student. While on a trip to Simla, she meets and falls in love with a Casanova, Prem, and both get intimate. When her dad opposes this alliance, Prem challenges Heerachand regarding his daughter's love for him. He then leaves Preeti a note, explaining that her father refused the alliance and he was headed to meet his mother, who was urgently sick. Heerachand gets a hold of the letter before Preeti and changes the letter, writing that Prem went away as her father refused to provide any monetary compensation. Years later, both Prem and Preeti are fated to meet again. This time Prem is accompanied by a handicapped young lad, Rahul, while Preeti is about to get engaged to Dr. Amar. Preeti soon realizes that the reason Prem has re-appeared in her life to be near her nubile to-be sister-in-law, Tikki. The question remains what will she do under the circumstances to try and expose Prem as well as protect her past from Dr. Amar? It turns out that Rahul is Prem and Preeti's son and that Prem has come to Dr.Amar for Rahul's treatment. Preeti's father had told her after the birth of the child that she had given birth to a still-born child. After Rahul's operation Preeti comes to know about the reality and confronts her father who confesses to her that he had lied about her giving birth to a dead child and asks her forgiveness but Preeti retorts saying that she an never forgive him as he had lied to her and thinks herself deceived by her own father. Rahul's operation turns to be successful and Preeti and Prem are reunited with their son along with their families.

Acquitted for killing his wealthy wife, a male re-locates, changes his name, re-marries another wealthy woman, and then becomes a suspect when attempts are made to kill her also.

Sapna (Sharmila Tagore), flying back to India from the USA, is involved in an airplane engine "flameout". She loves poetry, in particular the work of a poet called Ujjwala. Unable to distinguish between the poet and the poetry, she sets out on a journey to meet the poet in a place called Phulwari. Sapna believes that Ujjwala is her dream man. Her wealthy father, worried by her distraction consults a psychiatrist who pronounces that Sapna needs treatment and must be sent to his clinic for an extended period of time. Running away from home, in a beautiful red MG TF (probably a 1954 model) she comes across Sunil (Shashi Kapoor) working on his Jeep (one of the early right-hand drive versions that Mahindras produced). A couple of accidents later they find themselves in a luxurious Mercedes Benz tour coach (possibly an O 321 H - with a rear engine) and their journey of exploration begins. Faced with obstacles, raised by greedy people who want to get the informant's reward announced by Sapna's father Randhir Singh Chauhan; and going through some comic as well as dangerous interludes the screen couple arrive at the climax on their way to Phulwari. Sunil is doing his best to escort Sapna to Phulwari. How Sapna reconciles her love for Ujjwala, who she has only met through his poetry and Sunil's unreciprocated love for her makes for an interesting denouement.

Fair-minded Raja Gajraj Singh is overthrown in a coup by his brother, Balbir Singh. Both Gajraj's and Balbir's wives are pregnant, and give birth to twin sons, and a son respectively. Balbir orders that Gajraj's son be killed. Then he arranges for Gajraj and his wife's accidental death by a motor vehicle. Years go by, most people have forgotten Raja Gajraj, and Balbir is the sole acclaimed ruler with his fair-minded and soft-spoken son, Ganga Singh, who is all set to succeed the throne from his dad. Then Ganga meets a young woman named Jugni from a poor family and falls in love with her, she too falls in love with him, and both want to get married. But Balbir will not have anything to do with her, as he would like Ganga to marry rich and wealthy Mala. Chaos and anarchy suddenly descent upon the palace, when Ganga undergoes a character change and becomes womanizing, alcoholic, and foul-mouthed, much to the chagrin of his dad. But the clouds do have a silver lining for Ganga is now willing to wed Mala. What was the reason behind the sudden change in Ganga? What will the poor heart-broken Jugni do now?

Raj and Poonam, poor lovers, face struggles. Raj takes job in affluent sphere, causing moral conflicts. They navigate circumstances, family duties, testing relationship and principles amid wealth-poverty divide.

Raju is a second-generation American-Indian who lives with his mother, Shobha, and resents his father for having an illicit affair with a married East Indian woman, Rita, as well as his secretary, Nancy, which led to Shobha separating from him and leaving her daughter with him in Toronto, Canada, while Raju re-located with her. Years pass by, Raju has matured, and then one day his mother tells him that a Canadian's friend's daughter has been kidnapped by the Ontario Kidnappers. Both mother and son travel to Toronto in order to assist the single father. Raju enlists the help of Renu, a gangster, who locates the kidnappers, who are not involved with the Ontario Kidnappers, but ends up betraying him. Things get complicated and out of hand when the real Ontario Kidnappers decide to get involved, kill the kidnappers, abduct the daughter and hold her for a higher ransom, and Raju finds out that his mother is having an affair with the kidnapped girl's father.

When a politician is killed, a journalist discovers that a member of parliament had the man assassinated. As his editor digs deeper, the complicity of higher-placed politicians comes to the surface, which leads to riots in one town and an attempt to suppress his story.

Sharda, a nurse and single mother, raises her daughter Swati as an independent, articulate young woman. Swati is a strong advocate of women's rights in a society where there is significant male domination. Swati deals with eve teasers firmly, sometimes with considerable force. When a married friend of hers gets raped in the presence of her husband, she acts as a counsellor and helps them adjust to the reality of a society that blames the victim and not the rapists. Swati takes on a huge transformation when she meets a political activist and falls in love with him. She embarks on a project of matchmaking for her mother and engineers a wedding with a widower who has a grown-up daughter.

Savitri lives a wealthy life-style with her businessman husband and a daughter, Meenu. She gets pregnant a second time, gives birth to a son, Khetan, but tragically passes away. Her husband, unable to handle business and two children at the same time, re-marries a woman named Laxmi. While Laxmi tries to be a loving step-mother, her brother, Raghunandan, who moves into her household, advises her against doting too much on her step children. As a result, Meenu and Khetan miss their mother. When they grow up, they are abused, and when they cannot endure it any more, they run away. When Laxmi's husband questions their absence, he is told that they died in a boating accident. Laxmi gets pregnant, gives birth to a girl, Chanda. Then Raghunandan starts to openly show his true colors, as he embezzles money, jewelery, and changes properties to his name, & throws Laxmi and her husband out of their house. Her husband falls down the stairs, and loses his vision. Years later, Chanda has grown up and is of marriageable age, Laxmi and her husband, are looked after by their servant, Ramu, who lives with a woman named Asha. One day Asha tells them that she knows about Khetan, and an overjoyed family rush over to meet him. This is then when they will have to face the truth about Khetan and Meenu, and the life the later has chosen to live.

An eligible bachelor and Bollywood film-maker, Amar lives a wealthy lifestyle in Mumbai. He meets with and falls in love with an actress, Gul, romances, and then marries her. They live harmoniously for a few years then differences crop up, and a pregnant Gul decides to leave, and starts making a living as a high-class prostitute with Balaam Hyderabadi as her pimp. She gives birth to a daughter, Sona, and with Kishan Murari's help, admits her in a hostel in Delhi, so that Sona can grow up without knowing her mother's professional career. She then gives birth to Mohan and let's him live with her but keeps her professional life a secret from him as well. As years pass, she starts to age and Balaam asks her to get a young woman on whom she can depend on financially. Initially Gul refuses but when she is assaulted and hospitalized, she changes her mind and brings home a young prostitute, Roopa, who was also a patient in the hospital, and introduces her to a much-delighted Balaam. With Roopa in the house and her future secure, Gul decides to visit Sona in Delhi - and it is this visit that will alter her life forever.
