Television fiction, filmed under the guise of a documentary in which the protagonists of one of the capital episodes of Catalonia in the 20th century comment on the events, in the first person, while the camera captures what happened in Barcelona between 14 and 17 April 1931, the three days during which the Catalan Republic was in force. All this, with the aim of showing the significance of a half-improvised gesture that brought down the monarchy and the recovery of Catalan self-government for the first time since 1714.

1808. The Napoleonic Army suffers its first defeat at the hands of a single man: a drummer boy who used the Montserrat mountains to echo his drums and send the enemy troops into a panicked retreat. When the news reaches Napoleon, he furiously orders the captain of the Imperial Guard to bring back the head of the young hero responsible for his army's defeat. The captain gathers together a band of his best and most deadly men and so begins the hunt to death of the soldier who was to become a legend.

The story takes place in Barcelona following the disaster in Cuba until the Tragic Week, approximately from 1899 until 1909, by means of events which befall a family in that city.

This film is based on the true story of the military and politician Francesc Macià (Vilanova i la Geltrú 1859 - Barcelona 1933), who tried to militarily free Catalonia and later became its president.

David is an unemployed communist that comes to Spain in 1937 during the civil war to enroll the republicans and defend the democracy against the fascists. He makes friends between the soldiers.

In the harsh post-war years' Catalan countryside, Andreu, a child that belongs to the losing side, finds the corpses of a man and his son in the forest. The authorities want his father to be made responsible of the deaths, but Andreu tries to help his father by finding out who truly killed them. In this search, Andreu develops a moral consciousness against a world of adults fed by lies. In order to survive, he betrays his own roots and ends up finding out the monster that lives within him.

1939: The remains of the Spanish Republican Army crossed the French border. Among the exiles are Lluís Companys, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and also Aguirre, President of the Basque Government. After the invasion of France by Nazi troops, Companys will be arrested by the Gestapo and handed over to the Francoist authorities. Led by the Count of Mayalde, he is transferred to Madrid and later to Barcelona. After a summary trial, Companys is condemned to death and shot.
