U.S. Air Force Day is celebrated on the 18th of September and recognizes the U.S. Army Air Force becoming an independent organization on September 18, 1947, while highlighting the many accomplishments the USAF has made over the past century. Forerunners to the U.S. Air Force include the U.S. Army Air Service (USAAS) between 1918 and 1926, the U.S. United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) between 1926 and 1941, and the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) between 1941 and 1946, all acting as the aerial warfare service component of the United States Army. In celebration of the day, and in honor of the fictional and real heroes of the U.S. Air Force and its forerunner U.S. Army Air Commands, a USAF movie character poll.
