New Universal Cartoons (1938)

A Walter Lantz animated short. Rudolf Raibone, the villain, wants to marry Nellie, who doesn't. Raibone goes to all villainous lengths to force the marriage. Dauntless Dan is the hero of this picture.

A story of the outcast dogs NYC's East Side. They live in the dog slums, and are trying to get some of the bones the fat bulldog has piled up in his yard, but the bulldog is too watchful. Along comes Clarence the lap dog, a snooty little aristocrat, who wants to pal with them. They give him a cold shoulder until he shows them the trick of getting the bones from the bulldog. In fact, he gets all the bones from the bulldog. Then the two outcasts recognize the fact that Clarence is a genius and a born leader an accept him as such.

This "cheater" cartoon features no new animated segments and, with the exception of the soundtrack and the newsreel-esque intertitles, is comprised entirely of footage from the following Lantz releases: The Hillbilly (1935), Monkey Wretches (1935), Soft Ball Game (1936), Alaska Sweepstakes (1936), The Barnyard Five (1936), Music Hath Charms (1936), House of Magic (1937), and The Big Race (1937).

Scoutmaster Oswald (the Rabbit) takes his troop of Duck Scouts on a camping trip. The youngest member, a black duckling, gets into trouble with a mischievous beaver, who keeps putting out the camp fire the little black duckling is trying to light. The little black duckling chases the beaver into the water and encounters an alligator, who is pleased to see that his dinner has arrived. The little black ducking finally gets safely to shore as Oswald comes to his rescue by feeding the alligator a mechanical duck---standard issue in all scout packs back-packs---that ruins the alligators digestion as it starts to unwind inside him.

Public Rat Number One takes along Baby-Face Rat to steal the cheese out of the kitchen icebox. The dishes in the kitchen become animated and chase the marauders, capturing the youngster while the gangster rat escapes. Baby-Face is brought before Policeman Sugar Bowl and given the third degree. He escapes, is chased by the frankfurter-bloodhounds but manages to get away. Arriving back in the rat-hole, he beats up the big rat for leading him astray into a life of crime. He turns the big rat over to the police, and then broadcasts over the radio that crime does not pay.

An animator leaves his work room, and a storm comes up and blows his drawing paper around and overturns the inkwell. Large blotches of ink fall on the sheets of paper, and become wild African warriors and Harlem jitterbugs as the wind howls outside. Comes the dawn, the storm ends, and the inky figures return to the inkwell. The maid comes in to clean the workroom, and finds nothing by ink smudges on scattered sheets of paper.

In a North Pole classroom, Professor Seal is teaching th young seals all about fishing. One little seal would rather practice snowball-juggling and plays hookey, and gets into trouble with the teacher. But back in the classroom a hungry polar bear is waiting to make food out of the seals. The juggling seal does his act and the bear is so impressed that he decides to stay in school and learn to juggle.

Goose goes to meet boyfriend rooster in the park but rooster is more interested in another bird.

In an abandoned hotel, idle ghosts get drunk, play slot machines and line up for their relief checks. Two chimpanzees and their big mopey dog venture inside. The ghosts are thrilled at this new opportunity for mischief.
