Pre-Noir
Film historians usually define the 'Film Noir' genre as starting in late 1940, with 'Stranger on the Third Floor' (or less often, with 'The Maltese Falcon' remake in 1941) and ending with 1958's 'A Touch of Evil'. But many earlier movies had strong influence on the dark, atmospheric crime dramas of the true 'Noir' era.
