A pair of twins, Dio and Mel, are brought to this world by a shooting star. They were resurrected by the goddess Norn in order to atone for a terrible crime they committed in their past lives. To pass Norn's trial and break free of the shackles of their dark destiny, they and their mysterious animal friend Couleur must embark on an epic journey through time. The tale of these twins, and the power of their costumes, is set in the world of Tales of Phantasia a century after the events in the original game.

A great swordsman named Stahn Aileron takes a ride on a giant dragon ship. During the flight, the ship is attacked by pirates. Looking for a weapon to defend himself, Stahn discovers a sword. Very soon he finds out it is not just an ordinary sword, but the legendary talking sword Dymlos, who has been sleeping for many years and who can be awakened only if the world is in grave danger. But what exactly is the danger that awakened Dymlos now? With the help of a few friends, Stahn decides to explore the world and find out what is wrong.

The story, set eighteen years after Destiny, follows Kyle Dunamis, the son of the previous game's protagonists Stahn Aileron and Rutee Katrea. Shortly after meeting a mysterious girl named Reala while trying to save Rutee's orphanage from bankruptcy, Kyle is drawn into conflict with Barbatos, a cruel warrior responsible for killing Stahn, and the machinations of Elraine, a religious leader seeking to bring peace to mankind. The gameplay uses two-dimensional character sprites and backgrounds, and the battle system is a revamped version of the series' trademark Linear Motion Battle System.

In order to prevent the catastrophe, the Grand Fall, Rid and his companions Farah, Keel and Meredy have obtained the Greater Spirits. A series of adventures forces them to remain on the islands, where a more immediate threat to Inferia.

Four centuries have passed since the "Warriors of Time" were lauded as heroes for defeating the Demon King Dhaos. Frayne, a descendent of the Warrior of Time Claus, began researching his ancestor's summoning artes. After meeting an android named Macaron, the two set off on a trip to find the pact rings required for summoning. After being ordered to eliminate a threat to the Kingdom, Frayne used the gathered rings and Macaron's time-travel powers to call on the Warriors of Time for help. Together, they battled a new Demon King.

Lloyd Irving and his childhood friend Colette are destined to go on a journey to save the world of Sylvarant, but doing so may endanger Tethe'alla, a world parallel to theirs.

It has been two years since the worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla merged into one, and the chaos caused by their integration has yet to abate. Emil, a shy teenager, is saved from bullies by a man named Richter. When Emil finds the girl Marta, who Richter is searching for, he leads Richter to her, only for the man to draw his weapon and attack her. Tenebrae, the Centurion of Darkness, appears and tells Emil to forge a pact with the spirit Ratatosk, giving Emil the power to fight and making him the Knight of Ratatosk. Emil and Marta then depart on a quest to gather the various Centurion Cores needed to revive Ratatosk, the spirit of the World Tree.

Tales of Symphonia focuses on the two worlds; one world prospers at the cost of another. In one of these worlds, Colette Brunel and her guardians embark on a journey to save their world called Sylvarant and to replenish it with the needed mana. However, they do not know if they will be able to save their world, as well as the cost they will need to pay to save it.

Tales of Rebirth is set in a world where humans (called Huma) and beast people (Gajuma) coexist in relative peace. The world's magical power is called Force, which manifests in various people as control over an element or aspect of the physical laws. In ancient times, after a war sparked when Huma attempted to enslave Gajuma, both races joined forces to found the kingdom of Karegia. An unspecified time before the events of the game, Geyorkias, the ruler of a spirit race called the Sacred Beasts, sought to destroy the Huma as their dark emotions were fueling a primordial destructive force known as Yuris: the other Sacred Beasts put a stop to Geyorkias' plan by sealing him away, then acting to nullify Yuris' threat. The story opens with the death of Karegia's king, Ladras Lindblum, poisoned by the royal adviser Zilva Madigan: during his final moments, he releases his power into the world, causing many humans to become possessed by Force, including Veigue, Annie and Tytree. As the king has failed to name a successor, Karegia enters an interregnum at his death.

Tales of the Abyss is the story of Luke fon Fabre's unintentional journey outside of his mansion, which he has been locked inside of for the last several years, since he was found in an abandoned castle after an kidnapping attempt, with no recollection of his past. Luke soon uncovers a plot to destroy the world as he knows it, and he and his ever expanding party of comrades (including a fire spewing mouse-thing named Mieu) must help to unite two kingdoms, and settle on the matter of his own identity before the world comes to an end.

Caius and his childhood friend Rubia decide to pursue the inquisitors and save him. When they reach their destination, they join up with new friends Tilkis, Forest, and Arria. Together they will uncover the conspiracy hidden within their land's fabricated history.

After learning why the Church of Arka is pursuing her, Ruca decides to join Illia's journey. Along the way they meet Spada, Ange, and other new allies, and discover hidden truths about the origin and history of their world.
