Solokha, the mother of the blacksmith Vakula, receives guests in his absence: the demon, the Head, Dyak and Chub - Oksana's father. The guests hide in bags, and the saddened Vakula, who returned from the capricious beauty Oksana, decides to put things in order in the hut. He takes the bags out into the street, where lads and girls, including Oksana, are merrily caroling. She asks the blacksmith to get her little slippers, which the queen herself wears. Vakula sits astride a demon, rushes to the royal palace and asks the Empress for a little slipper. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Dikanka discovered that Vakula was missing. Oksana regrets that she treated him like that. Having received a valuable gift from Vakula, Oksana agrees to marriage.

Based on Gogol's story: It's Christmas Eve, and everyone in the village has plans. The devil and the witch Solokha are looking for ways of causing mischief. Chub the Cossack just wants some vodka. Solokha's son, Vakula the smith, wants to court Chub's charming daughter Oksana, who sets him on a quest: if Vakula will bring her the tsaritsa's shoes, Oksana will marry him. Meanwhile, the popular Solokha has a series of male visitors to contend with. When Vakula interrupts her, it sets off a chain of events that leads to a busy night for everyone.

On Christmas Eve in rural Ukraine, handsome but poor Vakula the blacksmith pursues the beautiful Oxana with the help of the Devil.

The film is based on the story of the same name by Nikolay Gogol.

The blacksmith Vakula is going to propose to the beautiful but vain Oksana. Since it is the night before Christmas, the devil is free to roam around and torment people as he pleases, so he decides to find a way to get back at Vakula, because he paints religious art in the village church.
