The River Murders are linked to a pharmaceutical company, so Clarice seeks help from their corporate accountant; Catherine goes outside for the first time since her rescue from Buffalo Bill.

Catherine Martin escapes to Carneys Point, N.J., to confront Buffalo Bill's mother, Lila Gumb; Clarice volunteers to be the one to find Catherine before she commits a vile act and becomes a monster herself.

Clarice zeroes in on the entity behind the River Murders, Alastor Pharmaceuticals; the team rushes to Alastor to prevent the purging of any incriminating evidence; Clarice questions the CEO of Alastor Pharmaceuticals.

As the team finally gets the green light to raid Alastor Pharmaceuticals, Clarice punches another FBI agent in a moment of rage, then willingly turns in her badge and gun.

Using hairs collected from the motel pillow, the BAU team discover several medications used to treat brain tumors in the killer's bloodstream. Graham surmises that the killer is transforming his victims into guardian angels to watch over him because he is afraid of dying in his sleep.

The authorities at a local army base are in an ungodly hurry to declare the death of a decorated Afghanistan War veteran a suicide. But Vera doubts it.

When Val Aherns' husband Denis is found dead at a foot of a cliff close to their home the morning after a family party, she begins to interrogate his relationships with his family.

And Bug is trying to help Detective Seeley locate some crucial evidence which was devoured by a cat.
