Sottogenere cinematografico, nato e sviluppatosi in Italia tra la fine degli anni Cinquanta e gli anni Sessanta e caratterizzato dalla presenza di giovani cantanti, già famosi presso i loro coetanei, che si esibiscono interpretando le loro canzoni di maggior successo, inserite all'interno di trame in cui vengono affrontati, in maniera piuttosto convenzionale, contrasti di tipo generazionale. Il nome risulta ricalcato su quello di 'Carosello', la rubrica di pubblicità televisiva che veniva trasmessa dall'emittente nazionale e i cui episodi vedevano spesso protagonisti gli interpreti più famosi di questo genere cinematografico.
