Through the process of defeating his minions Lao befriends a one-handed fighter out for similar revenge, and the daughter falls in love with Lao. Lao and the one-handed man team-up in a final battle to the death.

Jouan appears to be a dedicated Volumeiple of Shaolin Temple but is really a Manchu spy. As the favorite to succeed the Temple Master, he cannot stand competition from Rock, a true Volumeiple. So Jouan arranges for a prostitute to be found in Rock's room, thereby causing his banishment. Jouan continues plotting and becomes Master, according to the plan.
