NOTE: This list is a work in progress. After the main list is completed, a series of smaller lists and appendices will be created that divide the content into specific categories. Some of the titles that are currently included in this list will eventually be removed once the appendices are created (such as the films marked 'non-literary source', which will eventually be moved to Appendix B).

Rough Draft of List Description: "This is a list of every film in the National Film Registry that is based in whole or in part on a literary work of any sort, whether it be a novel, a biography, a play, a short story, a comic book, or even a poem or song. It also includes some titles based on true events, folklore, earlier screenplays, or other category of source material that is not strictly literary.

The titles on this list are sorted by their source material according to the Library of Congress Classification system. A more in-depth explanation of the system and how it works can be found of the Library of Congress website.

The list has also been broken down into sections, which you can access below by clicking the links in the table of contents. You will also find a series of appendices at the bottom exploring related topics.
