200 and change... As any list, this one is personal. I leave out excellent films, some classics, that will certainly be part of other lists.  Without judging the aesthetics of their movies, filmmakers such as Coppola, Spielberg, G. Lucas have nothing interesting to say to me. Also I don't care for Nino Rota and can't stand the disgusting John Williams tunes... While I admire basically all films made by a Kubrick or a Visconti, I didn't include every thing. Films like Ludwig, 2001, as well as David Lean films have a rhythm problem. The director seems to become too self conscious. It's like most Mahler's Symphonies: great but ultimately a PITA. I also leave out what I suppose are excellent films, but that my cultural interest and background don't allow to properly appreciate, such as Asian movies in general.  If I really had to bring in all the movies I left out and that could be argued would have a place here, perhaps the list would have 250 titles. Add another 50 of great films I haven't seen and that should probably be included, we would have an exhaustive list of 300 films. That is it. Fuck the rest. The films in this list are not rank ordered and should be considered chronologically.  I make no concessions to ideology, have no agenda and follow no trend. And yes, I stopped wasting my time with new productions 20 years ago.
