British film noir - from 1930s precursors to films influenced by Hollywood ( and France ) , films made by blacklisted emigrees , and the huge amount of second feature , low budget crime films . These crime films culminate in the early to mid sixties with the Edgar Wallace series , plus the Edgar Lustgarten shorts . After that there are individual films that could be described as neo noir .

British Films 1947 Not Yet Released On DVD Region 2

I have probably watched thousands of mysteries over the years, and while I'm not by any means a film critic, I know what I like. 

My favorite sub-genres are the older, usually B-movies set in Britain. (The 1940's is by far my favorite decade for these gems) You will find a smattering of more modern movies on the list as well. And while some of them were actually put out by US studios, I try to keep this list limited to those that are released by British studios, OR located in Britain OR have a few (or more) British actors. There's a separate list for my favorite US releases coming soon! 

They aren't even ALL mysteries...but a mix of mostly mysteries, some thrillers, some straight crime and a few classic horror films.  There isn't even a dead body in a few of them, but those are rare.  Unless there's a murder, I'm usually not interested!  

You'll find a lot of Basil Rathbone and George Sanders movies...I love them!  I have many favorite actors and actresses that I seek out in before unknown to me movies. I'll make a separate list of them someday.
