- Was an actor from San Diego's famous "Old Globe Theater" who was murdered in Balboa Park (where the Theater is located), after chasing a thief into a nearby canyon. The crime was later solved.

- David's murderer was a 16-year-old illegal Mexican immigrant who was captured by the police on March 12, 1985. A group of Canadian tourists in Torrance read a newspaper account of the case that included a photo of the actor and they remembered having seen the man chasing someone a couple of nights ago (the crime happened on February).
