There are still surprises coming from Noah Solloway.
One of the big questions this season was answered by The Affair Season 3 Episode 5, which allowed Noah and Alison to spend time together for the first time since he was released from prison.
They may have been married, but Noah kept a lot of secrets close to the vest. Prison gave him the time needed to understand why he was still in love with her and couldn't let go and held the key to his conviction, as well.
This installment was a bit confusing to me, because while watching Part One: Alison, it seemed as though Noah had no idea the divorce was coming or why.
Yet as soon as we popped into Part Two, we saw from Noah's point of view he had known from a visit from Alison they would no longer be in contact and that her lawyer...

Taking advantage of the lucrative UK TV tax credit, AMC is the latest U.S. network to head to London to make a pilot. Film London, the body that promotes shooting in the British capital, confirmed today that the AMC Studios-produced Knifeman will follow in the footsteps of Fox’s 24: Live Another Day which recently shot there. The six month 24 shoot generated about £37M worth of local production spend and helped up the city’s profile as a TV production center. Knifeman is inspired by the biography of John Hunter by Wendy Moore, The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching And The Birth Of Modern Surgery. It’s set in 18th Century London and centers on a charming, arrogant surgeon (Tim Roth) who robs graves and harvests organs. The pilot was written by Rolin Jones (Low Winter Sun) and developed by Jones and Ron Fitzgerald (Friday Night Lights), both of...

Craig Zisk has stepped in to direct AMC drama pilot Knifeman after Brian Percival pulled out last week for personal reasons. I hear Zisk is already in London working in the pilot. Based on Wendy Moore’s John Hunter biography The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching And The Birth Of Modern Surgery, Knifeman centers on a charming, arrogant surgeon who robs graves and harvests organs in 18th century London. Rolin Jones wrote the pilot, which he developed with Ron Fitzgerald; both exec produce. Zisk, repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and attorney Jared Levine, directed two broadcast comedy pilots this season, ABC’s An American Education and NBC’s Two to Go. He also was a co-executive producer/director on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Zisk’s drama credits include FX’s American Horror Story and Nip/Tuck.

AMC is turning to London as it searches for a series to replace “Mad Men,” whose final season debuts this month. “Knifeman,” a pilot adapted from Wendy Moore’s biography of early medical pioneer John Hunter, is set to be cast by London-based casting director Kate Rhodes James, Backstage has learned. The drama, which is set in the 18th century, follows an unorthodox self-educated surgeon, played by Tim Roth, who will “go to any length to learn the secrets of the human body.” Brian Percival, who worked on “Downton Abbey,” is set to direct the pilot, which is in production in the United Kingdom.

Two pilots featuring 18th century surgeon and a post-apocalyptic future in production
AMC has ordered pilots for two new shows that look very, very Den of Geek indeed. Both are on the long-range radar, being considered for broadcast in 2015, and while it’s far from certain that either will be picked up, we’re hoping that they’ll be given the fairest of hearings.
The first is currently titled Knifeman, and is based on The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching And The Birth of Modern Surgery, a biography of 18th century surgeon John Hunter. Anyone with a passing knowledge of the history of medicine will know that 200-odd years ago, surgery meant something rather different from sterile gowns and masks. Knifeman promises to go one further with a ‘hero’, renamed John Tattersal, who is a “hard drining hard drinking, hard living genius not afraid...

Law & Order: Svu has scared up another gig for Pablo Schreiber.
“We are thrilled and terrified that Pablo Schreiber is coming back to Svu to reprise his role as psychopath William Lewis,” executive producers Warren Leight and Julie Martin tell TV Guide Magazine. “He’ll again be tormenting Det. Olivia Benson. Although he’s the one on trial, he turns it into hers.”
The Orange Is the New Black actor was last seen in the NBC procedural’s two-part season premiere, in which his sadistic alter ego abducted and tortured Benson until she turned the tables and nearly beat him to death.

It didn't take long for Tim Roth to get a new TV series lined up after last year's cancellation of his Fox series "Lie to Me." The Hollywood Reporter has Roth signed on to "Knifeman," a new show executive produced by David Cronenberg, who'll also direct the pilot. Roth will play "radical, self-educated surgeon" John Tattersall in a series that will provide "a visceral portrait of the extraordinary and unorthodox lengths he will go to uncover the secrets of the human body" (including using special devices for operating on mutant women?). The Hollywood Reporter notes this is an adaptation of Wendy Moore's biography "The Knife Man," about acclaimed 18th century Scottish surgeon and anatomist John Hunter, famous for his many accomplishments in the realm of medicine, for infecting himself with syphilis and gonorrhea for the sake of an experiment, and for bribing an undertaker for the corpse of...

Though his film career continues to hum along nicely, Tim Roth also found success on Us TV with crime drama Lie To Me. He’s already been developing another pilot with former Lie producer Alexander Cary, but now David Cronenberg has toddled along with an even more enticing offer, hiring him for the lead in his new series, Knifeman. The show will focus on radical, self-educated surgeon John Tattersall, a man driven to find out everything he can about the human body. Naturally, this brings him into conflict his superiors and those who just don’t understand his methods, but while we’re guessing that, as with House, he’ll usually be proved right, the presence of Cronenberg means it could be slightly meatier (in every sense of the word) than your average Us network show. It's apparently based on Wendy Moore's biography of 18th century surgeon John Hunter, The Knife Man,...

This past March, we first heard about Knifeman, a TV series that is being developed by David Cronenberg. We haven’t heard anything about the project since then, but a lead actor has now been cast.
Tim Roth will be playing radical surgeon John Tattersall, according to Deadline. The project is based on The Knife Man, a biography of eighteenth century surgeon John Hunter, so we aren’t sure if the name change is due to a typo or if the project only loosely based on the source material.
Book Synopsis: “The Knife Man, relates the life of maverick 18th-century surgeon John Hunter. From humble Scottish origins, John Hunter rose to become the most famous anatomist and surgeon of the eighteenth century. In an age when operations were crude, extremely painful and often fatal, Hunter rejected medieval traditions based on ancient Greek orthodoxy to forge a revolution in surgery founded on pioneering scientific experiments.

While it’s becoming less unusual to see movie directors jump to TV projects, we’re excited to hear that David Cronenberg is in the process of developing a new TV series titled Knifeman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cronenberg will direct the pilot episode and serve as an executive producer on the series, which is based on The Knife Man, a biography of eighteenth century surgeon John Hunter. From author Wendy Moore’s website:
“The Knife Man, relates the life of maverick 18th-century surgeon John Hunter. Using the knowledge gained from countless human dissections, Hunter worked to improve...

David Cronenberg — the man behind such works as The Fly, A History of Violence, and my nightmares — is the next big-name director to try his hand at TV. Much like Martin Scorsese did for Boardwalk Empire, Cronenberg has agreed to direct the pilot and serve as executive producer for the slightly insane sounding Knifeman, based on the book by Wendy Moore. Yay, television is respectable now! (No, not you, E! You will never be respectable. I'm sorry.) If you've missed Cronenberg's trademark body horror in somewhat more restrained films like A Dangerous Method, you're in luck. The true story follows self-trained surgeon (!) John Hunter, who pioneered new medical practices in the eighteenth century. Since this was a time when the answer to most problems was "let's just bleed you for a while and see if that helps at all; hopefully it won't [...]...

Though he's dabbled with directing television episodes in the past, David Cronenberg is planning his most ambitious small-screen project with "Knifeman". The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the series will be based on the biographyBased on the biography, "The Knife Man: Blood, Body-snatching and the Birth of Modern Surgery" by Wendy Moore, Cronenberg will tell the tale of 18th century surgeon John Hunter.
"From humble Scottish origins," Moore writes on her own site, "John Hunter rose to become the most famous anatomist and surgeon of the eighteenth century. In an age when operations were crude, extremely painful and often fatal, Hunter rejected medieval traditions based on ancient Greek orthodoxy to forge a revolution in surgery founded on pioneering scientific experiments... Although a central figure of the Enlightenment, revered by fellow scientists and friendly with high society, Hunter’s tireless quest for human corpses immersed him deep in the sinister world of body-snatching.

Hunter Laid To Rest
Australian acting legend Bill Hunter was remembered during a star-studded memorial service in Melbourne on Thursday.
The Muriel's Wedding star passed away on Saturday at the age of 71 following a battle with cancer.
Tributes have poured in for Hunter, and on Thursday, his family, friends and a number of famous faces turned out for a service celebrating the actor's life.
With Hunter's casket taking centre stage at Melbourne's Princess Theatre, singer Paul Kelly opened the memorial with an emotional performance of Nukkin Ya, which is derived from the Aboriginal term for 'see you later'. Oliver Jao Smith and The Maza Sisters also performed during the service.
Screen stars including David Field and Mick Molloy shared their memories of Hunter, while actor Rod Mullinar, who helped nurse the actor through illness during his final months, read out a poem in his honour.
Mullinar also delivered a moving speech about his "sweet, kind and generous" friend, telling the mourners, "He had a great curiosity about people - what they did, how they lived their lives, and most of all, what their stories were.
"People loved Billy because what you saw was what you got. I'll miss you Billy. We'll have a drink for you."
Family members paid tribute to Hunter, with his former wife Rhoda Roberts telling the guests, "He had wisdom and experience that he wanted to pass on. He was such a mentor to so many in this room, and that's how I would like to remember him."
Hunter's niece Kate Sheffield added, "It was an amazing life, and he lived it his way. His generosity of spirit was extraordinary. So long Billo. I'm so proud to have known you. You added colour and passion to all of our lives."
His brother John Hunter said, "Safe journey dearest friend, brother, you will never be forgotten in our hearts."
Paul Kelly closed the service by performing his classic track Leaps and Bounds.

When film critic Roger Ebert lost his lower jaw to cancer, he lost the ability to eat and speak. But he did not lose his voice. In a moving talk from Ted 2011, Ebert and his wife, Chaz, with friends Dean Ornish and John Hunter, come together to tell his remarkable story. That's the introduction to this new 20 minute Ted video with Ebert and it's unquestionably a must watch if you've ever read one of his reviews (that means everyone). Not only is it fascinating to hear him "tell" his story, but it's inspirational to hear about how courageous and charming of a person he really is, no matter how many scathing reviews he's given. Enjoy! Hat tip to SlashFilm for being one of the first to find/post this wonderful video. As Peter says, "the talk isn't about film or movies, but it is worth your time." I totally ...

Craig here with this week's Take Three
Today: Alan Arkin
Take One: Three-hundred-and-sixty-three words about one performance
Thirteen Conversations About One Thing (2001) was a solemn little indie film. I caught at random back in ’06 - and returned to it this week for Take Three. It’s one of those character-driven, multi-plot-strand affairs, à la Short Cuts - one of the many that came in the wake of Magnolia etc - where the cast are individually designated an appropriately emotional storyline to battle through. It was worth seeing (twice) for Arkin’s greatly measured, affecting performance. His character, Gene English, comes across as initially unlikeable; he’s a difficult, workaholic manager for an insurance firm, none too cheery day-to-day, largely due to the utter joylessness of his life, but brusquely committed to his work regardless.

Chris Farina’s World Peace…and Other 4th Grade Achievements is one of the more fascinating documentaries you will ever see. Over the course of eight weeks, students in 4th-grade teacher John Hunter’s Charlottesville, Virginia class take on the roles of nation leaders, Un representatives, the World Bank, tribal chieftans who negotiate the trade rights to their resource-rich lands, arms dealers, and even a weather goddess in a comprehensive game designed to promote discussion, foster negotiation skills, and, of course, ultimately achieve world peace.
With each child’s duty defined, Hunter then introduces a number of crises ranging from economic hardships to global warming to mercenary attacks to even a saboteur whom the students must unmask, put on trial, and prove guilty.
It may sound like too much to cover in the span of a one-hour running time, but Hunter explains the game with concision and clarity, and Farina...
