If Burman Dada immortalised himself with his two manjhi songs — ‘O re manjhi’ (Bandini) and ‘Sun mere bandhu re’ (Sujata) — Burman Baba belted out ‘O manjhi teri naiyya se chhoota kinara’ in that long-forgotten river-bank(rupt) bilingual Aar Paar directed by Shakti Samanta. Behind the song: Inside the making of Jatin-Lalit’s classic ‘Pehla Nasha’ from 1992’s Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar starring Aamir Khan.

Lalit Pandit, one-half of the Jatin-Lalit duo, looks back at the most iconic song of their career. “In my entire career as a composer I have never created another song like ‘Pehla Nasha’. It became such a landmark in my career I never even attempted it again . I knew ‘Pehla Nasha’ cannot be done again.”

How did ‘Pehla Nasha’ happen? “‘Pehla Nasha’ happened to us in 1991. My brother Jatin and I were very new. Our first soundtrack Yara Dildaara was yet to release.When we were invited for a music session with Mansoor Khan the director of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, we were very excited. He was making a new film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. We had gone fully prepared. To our good fortune our sister (singer) Sulakshnaji had got us an 8-track recorder.

Asrani recalled how all the 8 producers of the United Producers Council namely Raj Khosla, J Om Prakash, Fc Mehra, Mohan Sehgal, Nasir Hussain, Shakti Samanta, Pramod Chakravarthy and Hemant Kumar were all geared up to welcome the megastar.

Mansoor, you went on to do three very successful films with him. Akele Hum Akele Tum?

Yeah. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Hoi Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum. That’s it.

What is your opinion of him as to how he has evolved as an actor?

I think Aamir chose some very wrong films. Especially in the beginning. Yeah, in the beginning. But one film which I think opened him up was Dil. Indra Kumar’s style is very different from mine. His moments are loud, you know. You know, every scene is a little more intense and more over the top. So, I think that helped him.

Veteran Hindi film actress-director-producer Asha Parekh will soon be feted with the Lifetime Achievement honour for her contribution to cinema at this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Awards by President Droupadi Murmu.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur took to his Twitter to announce the honour for the actress.

Kolkata, April 27: Excited at the prospect of a reunion with fellow cast and crew members of the iconic Bollywood film "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" (Qsqt), that completes 25 years this April, the film's leading lady Juhi Chawla said the blockbuster was "magic which just happened".

"It's been 25 years, unbelievable and it was on the 29th April that the film was released. We are having a get together with the entire cast and crew. We will be screening the film and will be watching it after many years," Chawla told a TV channel post the Kolkata Knight Riders' win over Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens here Friday.

New Delhi, Feb 26: Imran Khan has been snowed under with requests from architects and interior design magazines ever since he got his ancestral home renovated -- however, the actor is not keen to let anyone enter his private pad.

Imran's house in Pali Hill, Mumbai, belonged to his grandfather, late filmmaker Nasir Hussain, and it has been there for the past 50 years. The house is eco-friendly with interesting aspects like solar panels, water harvesting and perfect ventilation.

It took nearly two years for the renovation to be completed and the actor moved into the home only last month. Ever since, he has been flooded with requests.

2013 will be a busy year for one of the most talented actors of this generation, Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir recently shot for Ayan Mukherjee’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in Kashmir with his co-star Deepika Padukone.
