      A Star Was Born :)

Tumsa Nahi Dekha Written & Directed By Nasir Hussain....After Writing For Movies Like Anarkali,Munimji & Paying Guest...This Was The First Time He Was Directing A Movie....

The Story Is Twenty Years Ago, After Killing His Brother, Sardar Rajpal Flees & Re-Locates In Assam Along With His Adopted Daughter Meena..... He Asks His Wife To Send Their Son, Shankar, So That He Can Employ Him.... Shankar Arrives... Sardar Employs Him... A few Days Later Another Young Man Shows Up At His Door Claiming To Be Shankar. A Baffled Sardar Welcomes Him & Puts Both The Young Men Under Observation In Order To Find Who Is The Real Shankar...Screenplay Is Fine...

Shammi Kapoor As Shankar....Does Very Well...His Comic Timing & Chemistry With Meena Is Awesome....Ameeta As Meena Is Gorgeous...She is Fine Throughout The Movie....B.M Vyas As Sardar Rajpal Is Well Written Character ...He Gives One Of The Better Performance....Pran As Sohan Is OK But Have Been Better....

Music Is Composed By O.P.Nayyar...Which Is The Best Part Of The Movie...All The Songs Did Well.... The Film's Original Lyricist was Sahir Who Wrote The Title Song But He Opted Out & Majrooh Sultanpuri Was In....."Tumsa Nahi Dekha" By Rafi..."Sir Par Topi" By Asha-Rafi & "Chhupne Wale Saamne Aa" By Rafi....Are Some Classic Compositions...

Overall A Good Movie...This Was The First Successful Movie For Shammi Kapoor...It Was A Good Attempt By The Writer To Direct...:)

      Musical of the year 1957...

Nasir Husains gem of a movie, story is quite predictable however the editing and background score of the music keeps the viewers glued to the TV set. O.P Nayyar at his best in the music composition.

All songs are evergreen melodies, my personal favorite is 'Dekho Kasam se...'.

One thing most noticeable about O.P.Nayyars composition is the ability of him to create such feet tapping, easy listening and melodious numbers.

      Definitely worth a watch.

Also Shammi Kapoor is great with his excellent comic timing and Ameeta is gorgeous.

Pran is little bit sober than his usual villain performances but still great acting.

Since there was no DNA test craze, this one is a perfect masaledar rom-com by Nasir Hussain and Shammi Kapoor.

Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957) : Brief Review -

Since there was no DNA test craze, this one is a perfect masaledar rom-com by Nasir Hussain and Shammi Kapoor. Nasir Hussain is known for his masala films and for setting new trends that have been loved by contemporary audiences. Tumsa Nahin Dekha follows the same template; rather, I'd say it created some templates. It's a near-perfect masala rom-com that had all the elements of a commercial hit film, with Shammi Kapoor getting one of his early breakthroughs. There were reports about the leading lady Ameeta being the protégée of Filmistan Studios owner Tolaram Jalan, and that's how she got the film and the song to remember forever: "Yun to humne lakh hansi dekhe, tumsa nahi dekha." She actually looked that gorgeous. Shammi Kapoor also looks so charming that you instantly fall in love with him (for female audiences, I mean). The film sets the template for a formula of a misunderstood son or two people trying to be the same person-one for a good reason or unknowingly and the other one for a bad reason or intentionally, or sometimes both. A father is waiting for his son after 20 years, and the son is off to meet him unknowingly. However, the bad guys learn about this, and one of them impersonates himself as that son and goes to the father's house. The father is confused and has to wait until his long-lost wife comes and identifies the real son. In the meantime, his adopted daughter falls in love with his son (yet unknown). Now, biologically, she can fall in love, but by society's logic, she should have been his adopted sister. Anyway, I can't look for such deep logic in a masala movie. As I mentioned in the beginning, the DNA test. Had it been made today, the plot would have been easy. But even that can be run on manipulative medical reports and such stuff, so I believe Mr. Hussain has done a great job there as a writer, screenwriter, and director. A special thanks to the legendary O. P. Nayyar for two super hit songs.
