Fran Drescher Won’t Seek Re-Election As SAG-AFTRA President
Image
Fran Drescher led SAG-AFTRA through its painful 2023 strike, but she’s not seeking a third term as the actors union’s president.

Her decision to opt out of became official when SAG released the list of candidates for the next election (read it here). Sean Astin has submitted a bid to lead the 160,000-member organization, as has SAG-AFTRA New England Local board member Chuck Slavin.

Drescher took over the top spot in 2021. When she was re-elected in 2023, she said she wanted “all members to be equal in all ways and I will continue to fight against marginalization and discrimination within our union, from our employers and the world at large.”

Fran Drescher Won’t Seek Another Term as SAG-AFTRA President
Image
After four years in charge, Fran Drescher will not seek another term as president of SAG-AFTRA.

Drescher’s decision has been known within the union for some time. But it was made official on Friday when the union released the list of candidates for the upcoming election.

Sean Astin, who has served on the negotiating committee and the national and local boards, will run for president against Chuck Slavin, a member of the local board in New England.

Drescher took the helm of SAG-AFTRA in 2021 with the goal of uniting an organization that had been riven by factional politics. She largely did that, in part by taking the union on strike against the major film and TV companies for the first time in four decades.

Drescher had little to no experience in union politics before taking the top job. She was re-elected in 2023 on a “unity ticket,” as the two...

After 14 Years, ‘Law & Order: Svu’ Season 27 Seemingly Reuniting Key Players
Image
That's one way to get fans' attention. New showrunner, Michele Fazekas, is seemingly starting things off with a bang while Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 films its first episode. Just like they did in March when they broke the Internet, Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay are at the center of news of a potential reunion on Season 27. Meloni posted to Instagram, posing with Hargitay as well as Dann Florek saying: "Hangin with friends on a Friday nite @therealmariskahargitay@dannflorek." While it's only been a few years since Florek and Hargitay, as well as Florek and Meloni, and of course Hargitay and Meloni have shared the screen, the three have not shared the screen together since 2011.

Elsewhere, set photos are breaking the internet, characters both old and new are gathering at what appears to be a pub.

Sean Astin Enters SAG-AFTRA Race, Sets Up Showdown With Fran Drescher
Sean Astin
Actor Sean Astin filed his candidacy Friday for the 2025 SAG-AFTRA presidential election, posting a “Members First” campaign badge on X minutes after paperwork reached union headquarters, according to the filing notice and his social-media feed. The Lord of the Rings star heads a slate that lists Joely Fisher for the Los Angeles local presidency and Michelle Hurd for national secretary-treasurer, echoing a platform he says will “restore democratic engagement” in the 160,000-member guild.

Ballots are scheduled to mail on Aug. 13 and must arrive by Sept. 12; results will be certified at the union’s virtual convention in late October, the official election notice shows. The nomination window closed July 11, locking the field one business day before Astin went public.

Astin seeks to unseat incumbent Fran Drescher, who steered SAG-AFTRA through the 118-day 2023 strike and has yet to announce a re-election bid. During that walkout Astin invoked the legacy of his mother,...

Sean Astin To Run For SAG-AFTRA President
Image
The Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin is seeking to replace SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher in the upcoming union election.

Astin has submitted a bid to lead the 160,000-member organization, Deadline confirmed Friday. Also on his ticket are Michelle Hurd for secretary-treasurer, Joely Fisher for president of the Los Angeles Local Board, Lisa Ann Walter for first vice president of the Local Board, and David Jolliffe to return for second vice president.

If elected, Astin would follow in the footsteps of his mother Patty Duke, the Valley of the Dolls and The Miracle Worker actress who became the second woman to ever run the then-Screen Actors Guild in 1985. She held the position for three years.

Sean Astin to Run for SAG-AFTRA President, Fran Drescher a Question Mark for Another Bid (Exclusive)
Image
In 1985, Valley of the Dolls and The Miracle Worker actress Patty Duke became the second-ever woman to lead the Screen Actors Guild as president, a position she filled for three years.

Now, decades later, her son Sean Astin is seeking to follow in her footsteps. The actor, perhaps best known for his role as the loyal hobbit hero Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings, is running for president of the current iteration of the film and TV actors’ union, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In an interview, Astin pointed to his years on national and L.A. Local boards and on five separate negotiating committees as key preparatory steps for the top job at SAG-AFTRA. “It feels like this moment is a culmination of all of that work,” he said. “The time feels like it’s absolutely right and I’m excited to do it.”

These amazing stories show why Peter David was the best Star Trek writer!
Image
Vendetta

The world of comics is in mourning over the loss of one of their most prolific voices. Peter David passed away Sunday, May 23, at the age of 68. In the comic book world, David was known for his excellent work, including his run on The Incredible Hulk, which many hold as the greatest creative run for the character.

David also wrote dozens of books like X-Factor, Supergirl, Young Justice, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and more. He was also a prolific novelist, such as in his fantasy parody series Sir Apropos of Nothing.

For Star Trek fans, David is often held up as one of the all-time best writers in the franchise’s history. That runs from 30 issues of the DC Comics series to nearly fifty books (including taking part in novellas and story collections). That outdoes scores of other Trek writers, not just in quantity but quality.

Why David was a...

'Blindspot' Finds New Streaming Home 5 Years After Series Finale
Image
Five years following a spectacular series finale, NBC’s Blindspot has found a new home where it’s currently being streamed in the U.S. The action thriller, created by Martin Gero, premiered on September 21, 2015, and went on to run for a total of five seasons and a hundred episodes before coming to a close on July 23, 2020. Starring in the series were Sullivan Stapleton and Jaimie Alexander, who were in the lead, and were joined by fellow main cast members Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ashley Johnson, Ukweli Roach and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

On Sunday, June 8, Netflix announced on social media that Blindspot had been added to its catalog, finally giving fans the opportunity to enjoy the series once again after such a long time. Alongside the announcement is a poster of Alexander’s character Jane Doe, fully tattooed and with the message, “A Mind Erased, A Body Of Clues,” which perfectly describes the series’ plot.

Brent Spiner Teases Star Trek: Legacy 'Could Still Happen' With 1 Big Catch
Image
Star Trek: Picard’sthird season saw Brent Spiner’s Data character (who has died twice over the course of the Trek franchise’s long run) become the most human-like, although still synthetic, version of himself. Season 3 of Picard reunited the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast for one final mission during which they (spoiler), save the galaxy yet again.

Spiner, per ScreenRant, appeared on The Sackhoff Show, during which host Katee Sackhoffasked the Data actor whether he would ever play the iconic android again. Spiner said that “it could still happen” and touched on Picard Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas’ idea of a spinoff that would feature Jeri Ryan’s Captain Seven of Nine. Fans have been clamoring for Star Trek: Legacysince Season 3 of Picard ended in 2023, with online and in-person petitions.

"It Could Still Happen": 'Star Trek: Picard's Legacy Spin-Off Gets Hopeful Update From 'The Next Generation' Star
Image
Even though fans of the Star Trek franchise have Star Trek: Starfleet Academy to look forward to, there is one potential continuation of the franchise that fans and cast members alike still yearn for. At one point, there was an idea, from the mind of Terry Matalas, who served as showrunner on Star Trek: Picard, to create a series set shortly after the events of Picard. It would follow Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine as she captains the newest Enterprise through the final frontier. The concept would also include characters such as Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) and Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers).

Even with the idea seemingly tabled for now, one star of Star Trek: The Next Generation, who appeared in the third and final season of Picard, offered a hopeful update. Brent Spiner, who played the android Data (among many other characters from Data's family) appeared as a...

“It Was Terrible”: Star Trek: Picard Showrunner Explains Why Original Cast Wasn’t In Season 3
Image
Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas explained why it was "terrible" to lose Picard's original actors to make way for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Santiago Cabrera, Allison Pill, Isa Briones, and Evan Evagora were Star Trek: Picard season 1 series regulars alongside Patrick Stewart, Michelle Hurd, and Jeri Ryan. However, only Ryan and Hurd joined Stewart for Star Trek: Picard season 3, which reunited Admiral Jean-Luc Picard with his crew from the USS Enterprise-d.

Appearing on The Sackhoff Show to discuss his career, including Marvel Studios' Vision Quest and 12 Monkeys, Terry Matalas explained how he joined Star Trek: Picard as co-showrunner for season 2 with Akiva Goldsman. As sole showrunner for Star Trek: Picard season 3, Matalas told host Katee Sackhoff about having to convince Stewart to bring back the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that season 3's budget required the "sacrifice" of losing...

The Stunning Vasquez Rocks Served As A Key Filming Location For Multiple Sci-Fi Classics
Image
The Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is located in the northern part of Los Angeles County, about a 45-minute drive from Hollywood proper (depending on traffic). They are a popular tourist destination because the layered rock formations jut out of the ground at strange, wild angles, giving them an alien look. They were named after Tiburcio Vásquez, a notoriously clever Mexican bandit who hid out among the rocks while eluding the cops back in the 1870s. Hikers have been hiding out among the rocks ever since, admiring their otherworldly beauty.

Vasquez Rocks has been a popular shooting destination for dozens of major films and TV shows, largely because they're such a short drive from all the production offices in Los Angeles. It's easy to bundle the cast of "Star Trek" into a van, dress three stuntman as a Gorn character, and go to the Rocks to film actors pretend-fight each other.

SAG-AFTRA’s ‘Here’s Looking At You L.A.’ & Mayor Karen Bass Push For State & Federal Tax Incentives To Get Hollywood Working Again
Image
In a soiree intersection of media, labor and real politick, SAG-AFTRA wants to pull the home of Hollywood together to get Tinseltown working again.

“Revitalizing California’s most recognizable industry isn’t just about making things better for show business, it’s about making things better for everyone,” proclaimed Joely Fisher last week at a literal and figurative high level get-together in the penthouse of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation .

As uncertainty rolls an industry already rocked by change and contraction, the words of the SAG-AFTRA Secretary-Treasurer and National Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee co-chair had an added resonance on May 8 with below-the-line workers and almost everyone else hurting hard as production and jobs are scarce.

In the hopes of turning things around, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s aim of pumping up the Golden State’s film and TV tax incentives to $750 million annually is moving steadily through the Legislature in Sacramento with deep support.

Jeri Ryan Says Captain Seven of Nine’s Mystery Star Trek Warp Command Idea Is “Evil Genius”
Image
Jeri Ryan addresses what Captain Seven of Nine's unheard warp command is at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3 and the "evil genius" plan she heard about Seven's mystery tagline. Seven of Nine was promoted to Captain of the USS Enterprise-g at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3. However, when the moment came for Captain Seven to order the newest Enterprise to jump to warp speed, Picard season 3 cut away, leaving behind a mystery that has kept fans wondering for over two years.

ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns caught up with Jeri Ryan about her role in Leverage: Redemption season 3, and asked the Star Trek: Voyager fan-favorite about Captain Seven's warp command in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Ryan says there was a greater idea about Seven's warp order that would have kept the mystery going. Check out her quote below:

Brett Goldstein and Jennifer Lopez's Office Romance on Netflix announces cast
Image
Brett Goldstein might be one of the more underrated players in movies and TV series. He doesn't just act, either. Nor does he only act and write. He creates, and what he comes up with are some excellent and highly entertaining ideas.

Many might know him from playing Roy Kent on the Apple TV series, Ted Lasso. Kent is a good-hearted menace. He is not easy to please, but he will help those in need. Goldstein plays the character dynamically and exceptionally well.

Some might know him from another Apple TV series, Shrinking. His part is minor on that show (he doesn't appear until season two), but essential. He plays the character who drives drunk and kills Jason Siegel's character's wife. The show is a comedy with a heavy dose of kind-hearted drama. Goldstein also co-wrote the episodes and created the show.

Brett Goldstein, Jennifer Lopez and Netflix should...

The Star Trek: Picard finale could have been even more epic!
Image
The Picard finale was a great affair, but it could have been even bigger! Here's some of the cooler ideas that didn't make it in!

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3

Star Trek: Picard had a rough go in its first two seasons. Having Patrick Stewart back as Jean-Luc Picard was a great idea, with Star Trek fans excited to see the return of the iconic captain.

However, the first two seasons were muddled. Seeing a broken Picard looking old as he faced a Romulan plot was hampered by a confusing storyline and a lack of engaging side characters. Season 2 had the return of Q, yet it also suffered with a time travel plotline and a rushed finale.

Season 3, however, was what Star Trek fans had always wanted: A full-on reunion of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast on a grand adventure. It was everything fans could hope for,...

Picard seasons ranked worst to best
Image
Star Trek: Picard may have only lasted three seasons, but how they rank is notable!

Star Trek has had more than its share of big shows over its long existence, yet Picard was still a huge one. At long last, Patrick Stewart would reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in a series set decades after Star Trek: Nemesis. Besides showcasing Stewart, it would also rewrite the Trek universe with a new canon taking place of the old after the various shows, as well as showing how the galaxy evolved.

The show had an interesting arc, with the first two seasons seen as rough despite Stewart's fine performance as the elder Picard. The third season was hailed for being a terrific sequel to The Next Generation with some bold twists. So, here's a quick look at how each season of Star Trek: Picard ranks for anyone who wants to catch up on this series!

10 Of Ice-t's Best Lines In Law & Order: Svu As Fin Tutuola
Image
This list contains references to sexual assault.

Fin Tutuola (Ice-t) has delivered many of Law & Order: Svu's best lines over the past 24 years. Fin first joins the Special Victims Unit in season 2, replacing Monique Jeffries (Michelle Hurd), who quits after being put on desk duty for breaking the rules. Fin claimed many of Law & Order: Svu's best stories in the years since he first joined the series, most notably a seasons-long arc of learning that his son is gay and growing to accept him and his husband. Fin is now a proud grandfather as well as Olivia Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) right-hand man.

When he first transferred from Narcotics to Svu, Fin was partnered with the now-late John Munch (Richard Belzer). Munch and Fin shared a cynical view of the world and a razor-sharp wit, which Fin still possesses 10 years after Munch left the series. Fin's compassion for victims balances his sarcastic streak,...

Tribbles Used To Be Cute & Cuddly Before Star Trek Changed Them
Image
Tribbles were originally cute and cuddly little balls of fluff before Star Trek kept changing them. Tribbles famously made their Star Trek debut in Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 15, "The Trouble with Tribbles," when Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise crew encounter them aboard a space station. When Lt. Uhrua (Nichelle Nichols) brings one of the little creatures up to the Enterprise, one Tribble quickly turns into thousands of Tribbles with truly hilarious results.

Tribbles emit a pleasant cooing sound when held by most humanoids (aside from Klingons), producing a tranquilizing effect on human nervous system, in particular. Tribbles have appeared in numerous Star Trek television shows and movies, both in the background, and as central plot points. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine even revisited "The Trouble with Tribbles" in the excellent season 5 episode, "Trials and Tribble-ations." Although Tribbles were a nuisance to the United Federation of Planets,...

Erin Moriarty's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
Erin Moriarty got her start in the industry when she was just 11 years old, and her best movies and TV shows run her entire timeline from her work as a teenager up to now. Because Moriarity was born and raised in New York, she is trained in theater as well as on-screen, but her professional work has all been for TV and film. Though one of her earliest roles was in the soap opera One Life To Live, the soap does not make it into her best work.

Soap operas, however, are notorious for being like bootcamp for actors just starting out in the industry since work on a soap is incredibly fast-paced and takes place nearly every day. Moriarty likely got a television crash course that has served her well. Most of her roles have been of a supporting nature in her career so far, but she has demonstrated...

I Loved Star Trek: Picard Season 3's The Next Generation Reunion, But I Felt Guilty About It
Image
With its Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion, Star Trek: Picard season 3 is amazing, but one aspect made me feel a bit guilty for loving it so much. Star Trek: Picard kicked off its third and final season when Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) receives an urgent distress call from Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Picard then recruits his friend and former first officer Captain William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to commandeer the USS Titan-a and mount a rescue mission. This mission eventually brought the rest of the Tng crew together aboard the rebuilt USS Enterprise-d for one last adventure.

As a huge fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I loved seeing Picard reunite with his old crew aboard his iconic ship. Showrunner Terry Matalas and the other folks behind Star Trek: Picard season 3 let their love of Tng shine through and leaned into the nostalgia of seeing the Enterprise-d crew back together.

Star Trek's First Officers, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Everyone has their favorite "Star Trek" captain. Ever since the '90s, debates have raged as to whether Kirk could beat Picard, and once Sisko came along, all bets were off. Just as every Klingon warrior needs a cha'Dich, even the best captain needs a solid second behind them. Over the years, many have tried to follow in the footsteps of Starfleet greatness, sometimes even exceeding it. As great as the limelight is, however, the position of reliable backup can be even harder.

It's time for the first officers to shine. Who are the greatest seconds-in-command? Like asking what makes a great vice president, that can be tough. Do we want someone who can and will take over or just the very best at carrying out their orders?

For the purposes of equal ranking, we haven't included absolutely every main crew in the franchise -- the musical chairs of the...

What Is Star Trek: Legacy — And Could It Actually Happen?
Image
Writer and showrunner Terry Matalas sneakily included a backdoor pilot into the final season of "Star Trek: Picard." At the end of the series, after a grand threat from the Borg has been quelled, the action fast-forwards a year for a teary epilogue. It seems that the previously roguish Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) had been rushed through Starfleet Academy and was now ready for his first starship assignment. His father (Patrick Stewart) and mother (Gates McFadden) accompanied him to his first ship, the U.S.S. Titan-a, the ship on which the bulk of "Picard" season 3 took place. But, in a fit of nostalgia, the Titan-a had been rechristened the Enterprise-g.

The Enterprise-g was commanded by Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), who had recently been recommended for captaincy by her deceased commanding officer. Seven's first officer was her ex-girlfriend Raffi (Michelle Hurd), and her crew included numerous "Picard" supporting players,...

Where Star Trek: Tng’s Crew Is In Lower Decks’ Finale
Image
Warning: Spoilers For Star Trek: Lower Decks' Series Finale - "The New Next Generation"The USS Enterprise-e makes a cameo appearance at the end of Star Trek: Lower Decks' finale, but contrary to audience expectations, most of the iconic crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation wouldn't have been aboard. The flagship of the United Federation of Planets couldn't make it to the Schrödinger field threatening to obliterate Star Trek's Prime timeline in time, leaving it up to the USS Cerritos to save the universe. The Enterprise-e then joined the Cerritos and other Starfleet ships at Starbase 80, which now guards the Federation's first stable wormhole to the multiverse.

Star Trek: Lower Decks' series finale on Paramount+ fittingly focused on the crew of the USS Cerritos, but it's understandable that audiences who were thrilled to finally see the USS Enterprise-e on Star Trek: Lower Decks may have been disappointed that...

'She's Just Waiting!': Star Trek: Picard's Alison Pill Talks Possible Return of Jurati Borg Queen
Image
In Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, Alison Pill played cyberneticist Agnes Jurati, a role she reprised for Season 2, but with a bit of a different take. At the end of Season 2 of Picard, Jurati was assimilated by the Borg, becoming a new, not-so-evil Borg Queen. Now, per Screen Rant, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress says she’d come back to Trek if she were called.

Pill is currently starring in Young Werther, a romantic comedy from director José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço. She said she’s not under any type of contract to return but would be open to the prospect of coming back to the Star Trek franchise.

“If I was on a retainer, I could pay my mortgage and just wait for Star Trek to call!” Pill said. “Then I could spend summers eating gelato! No, there is no retainer. But I would happily revisit Jurati Borg Queen any time.

Why Star Trek Has Section 31 & Starfleet Intelligence (What’s The Difference?)
Image
In Star Trek, both Section 31 and Starfleet Intelligence are intelligence agencies linked to Starfleet, but they have different histories within the Star Trek timeline, and serve different narrative purposes. Before the formation of Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, Starfleet existed as an Earth-based paramilitary organization with the primary function of exploration. As humans became major players in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, Starfleet's secondary mission of preserving peace became much more relevant, especially after Star Trek: Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) made contact with hostile species like the Klingons and Xindi.

In Star Trek, Starfleet and the Federation aren't the same thing. The Federation is the governing body that unites allied member worlds, and Starfleet is technically Earth's exploratory and peacekeeping organization, which expanded its reach to serve the entire Federation. To protect the Federation's members and borders, Starfleet must gather information about enemies of the Federation.

Kate Mulgrew Fought For Inclusivity On Star Trek: Voyager, But Got Rejected
Image
"Star Trek," which a very progressive franchise in many respects, has always had something of a fraught relationship with queerness. Gay or lesbian characters weren't wholly visible on the series, and dating couples tended to fall into the heteronormative. Near the end of his life in the early 1990s, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry once idly mused that he'd like to depict two background male characters holding hands in a romantic way, but that's hardly a great spearhead for a progressive ideal.

There were occasional attempts to include queer stories in "Star Trek" throughout the 1990s, but they were few and far between. The "Next Generation" episode "The Outcast" was controversial even at the time (and one can read all about "The Outcast" in the pages of /Film), and the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Rejoined" did allow Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) to have a romantic relationship with a woman, but...

Star Trek: The Next Generation's Michael Dorn is "slowly but surely retiring"
Image
Michael Dorn has been a part of Star Trek since Star Trek: The Next Generation began in 1987. His most recent appearance was on the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard. He is the one actor who has appeared the most in Star Trek, but that might be coming to an end as the Dorn, in an interview in Star Trek Explorer Magazine, says "I actually am slowly but surely retiring." [via Trekmovie]

This isn't good news to those fans who are still hoping for a Star Trek: Legacy series and who wanted to see more of Worf and Raffi's [Michelle Hurd] undercover work, but if anyone deserves retirement, it's Dorn, whose first role dates back to the 1960s when he appeared on Days of Our Lives.

Fortunately, while Dorn indicates he's moving toward retirement, he doesn't mean that he's not open to the idea of returning as Worf if...

An Impossible Star Trek Doctor Crossover Just Happened
Image
Star Trek's Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) meeting Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) is likely impossible, but the actresses just crossed over in Gates McFadden's podcast, InvestiGates: Who Do You Think You Are? Since 2021, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard's Gates McFadden has hosted an intimate, conversational podcast from The Nacelle Company. InvestiGates season 3 just premiered, dropping three new episodes with Star Trek guests Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Hurd, and Jess Bush.

Since 1987, Gates McFadden has portrayed Dr. Beverly Crusher, Chief Medical Officer of the USS Enterprise-d and E, as part of the main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation and continuing in the four Tng movies. McFadden reprised Beverly to great acclaim in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Although the character of Nurse Christine Chapel was originated by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry in Star Trek: The Original Series, Jess Bush portrays the younger Chapel in the prequel Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,...

Seven Of Nine Became A Star Trek Captain Before Picard Season 3
Image
Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine actually became a Star Trek captain before the epilogue of Star Trek: Picard season 3, when Captain Seven of Nine took command of the USS Enterprise-g. The epilogue teases Star Trek: Legacy, a Picard spin-off about the adventures of Captain Seven, Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), and Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) as the Special Counselor to the Captain. So far, Star Trek: Legacy doesn't seem to be happening, but fans don't have to wait for a new Star Trek show that might not come in order to see Seven of Nine in command.

Star Trek: Picard season 1 caught up with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) years after Picard retired from Starfleet, when a chance meeting with Dahj Asha (Isa Briones) launched Picard's next mission. Picard parted ways with Starfleet on bad terms, so Starfleet refused to lend Picard a ship to investigate Dahj's mysterious...

Two years on, LeVar Burton is still behind Star Trek: Legacy
Image
Almost a year and a half after season three of Star Trek: Picard aired its finale, "The Last Generation," there are some actors such as Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Todd Stashwick, and plenty of fans who are not ready to give up on the idea of continuing adventures with the legacy characters and the newer characters that made their debuts on Picard. LeVar Burton is one of those actors.

In an interview with TVLine [via Whatculture] the man behind Commodore Geordi Laforge is still onbard for the series that would follow Captain Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan], her first officer Raffi Musiker [Michelle Hurd], and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's [Patrick Stewart] son, Jack Crusher [Ed Speleers].

The sentiment, then and now, at least for us, the cast, and the audience, two years on, seem to be just as interested in the idea of Legacy as when Picard was just airing.LeVar Burton

By now, most...

Star Trek's Seven Of Nine Actor Turned Down A Picard Spinoff (Not Legacy): "It Just Wasn't Me"
Image
Jeri Ryan has confirmed that she was offered a role in a spin-off series of Star Trek: Picard that was not the rumored Star Trek: Legacy, but chose not to accept it. The proposed Star Trek: Legacy would focus on Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), Lt. Sidney La Forge (Ashley Sharpe Chestnut), and Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), on the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-g along with returning Next Generation characters.

Per TrekMovie, Ryan appeared at a panel with her Star Trek: Voyager co-stars Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill at Spacecon in San Antonio, TX, and she was asked about the future of Seven of Nine. Specifically, she was asked if there were any plans for a Seven of Nine show, to which she replies that there had been. She stated that she was pitched her own show after Picard ended, though it was not Star Trek: Legacy.

Michelle Hurd says she and Jeri Ryan both want Star Trek: Legacy "so badly"
Image
It's not surprising that the subject of Star Trek: Legacy would come up at a convention that includes the stars of the potential series. That happened at Spacecon in San Antonio, TX with a panel that included Star Trek: Picard's Michelle Hurd who played Raffi Musiker on Star Trek: Picared. Excited fans asked yet again for more information about Legacy and if the show would happen. [via Trekmovie]

“Girl, I’ve got every single part of my body crossed that this day happens. Jeri and I both want Legacy so badly, and I gotta say thank you to you, and thank you to all of our communities that are trying to get that forward and signing petitions and kicking it out there. That’s the way that things happen, is you guys, your voice actually does impact the studios.”Michelle Hurd

Gates McFadden will talk Star Trek: Discovery in season 3 of her show
Image
It seems like everyone has a podcast these days. We have Deep Space Nine's Cirroc Lofton's 7th Rule podcast, The Delta Flyers', hosted by Voyager stars Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeil. There's also the D-Con Chamber podcast, hosted by Enterprise stars Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer. There's a podcast for everyone and thanks to Gates McFadden, that remains true.

Each of the above podcasts serve a unique purpose. The 7th Rule talks a lot about Deep Space Nine, among other current Trek-topics. The Delta Flyers was an episode review podcast built around Voyager but shifted ears to Deep Space Nine after Voyager ended. The D-Con Chamber podcast focuses more on Star Trek stars, while being morer of a "late-night show" for Trek fans.

For McFadden, her InvestiGates podcast focuses less on Star Trek and more on the people who make Star Trek possible. Over the years, she's...

"It Makes So Much Sense": Levar Burton Still Wants Tng & Picard Sequel Show Star Trek: Legacy To Happen
Image
Star Trek: The Next Generation star Levar Burton believes that it makes sense to follow through with the rumored Star Trek: Legacy, a sequel series to Star Trek: Picard. Star Trek: Legacy, a title coined by showrunner Terry Matalas, would follow the events of Picard season 3, and would focus on Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), and Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), on the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-g.

Speaking with TV Line to promote his hosting duties on the new CW game show, Trivial Pursuit, Burton was asked about the possibility of returning to the Star Trek universe after he and his Star Trek: The Next Generation co-stars Gate McFadden, Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner joined Patrick Stewart for the third and final season of Picard. Specifically, Burton was asked to respond to Stewart's statement that the Tng cast would...

Hargitay discussed her future as Benson in a new interview with E! Online. While she's wondered herself exactly when the end of her portrayal will come, Hargitay confirmed that she's not ready to step away from the role anytime soon. Katee Sackhoff Must Join Star Trek & Complete Her Perfect Sci-Fi Hat Trick
Image
Katee Sackhoff wants to join Star Trek, and she should to complete her perfect sci-fi hat trick. Sackhoff became a sci-fi icon when she was cast as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in Sci-Fi Channel's 2003 reboot of Battlestar Galactica, which was created by legendary Star Trek writer Ronald D. Moore. In 2012, Katee jumped the galaxy far, far away when she voiced Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars: The Clone Wars before embodying Bo-Katan in live-action in The Mandalorian season 2. Incredibly, Sackhoff has not been in Star Trek... yet.

Since Star Trek's rebirth on Paramount+, the various Star Trek series have scored multiple casting coups, starting with Jason Isaacs and Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh headlining Star Trek: Discovery season 1. Michelle Hurd and Allison Pill joined the cast of Star Trek: Picard while Jack Quaid became one of the leads of Star Trek: Lower Decks, and even played Ensign Brad Boimler in live-action on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

SAG-AFTRA Steps Up Advocacy Efforts for Disabled Performers With ‘Time to Get Real’ Video Series
Image
SAG-AFTRA has produced three advocacy videos putting a spotlight on the challenges disabled actors face in pursuing and auditioning for jobs in the entertainment industry. The videos were produced as part of the union’s “Inclusion: Time to Get Real” campaign launched in connection with National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

The goal is to demonstrate how people with disabilities are underrepresented in TV and film, and when they are on screen, they are often misrepresented. In 2022, people with disabilities accounted for 8.8% of screen time, but those with visible disabilities made up only 0.4%, according to a Nielsen study.

“People with disabilities are America’s largest minority, representing nearly 26 percent of the nation’s population. Yet disabled performers are not afforded equal opportunities in entertainment and media and remain among the least represented in the industry,” said Christine Bruno, chair of the National Performers with Disabilities Committee, which steered the campaign.

“National...

Robert Beltran Refused To Return As Chakotay For This Star Trek: Picard Storyline
Image
Although "Star Trek: Voyager" concluded in 2001, multiple characters from the series have returned throughout the franchise at large to remind Trekkies that they all still exist and are still going about their Starfleet careers. Both Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Tuvok (Tim Russ) appeared on "Star Trek: Picard," with the former playing a regular role on the series. The reference-heavy "Star Trek: Lower Decks" makes "Voyager" references all the time, and even had an episode set on board the U.S.S. Voyager.

Most notably, Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) not only had a cameo in the 2002 film "Star Trek: Nemesis," but a holographic version of the character played a large role in the animated series "Star Trek: Prodigy." That same show also featured the real-life Janeway, the Doctor (Robert Picardo), as well as a subplot involving Chakotay (Robert Beltran), the captain of the experimental ship the U.S.S.

Star Trek 4 & Picards Legacy Spinoff Will Be The Same If They Happen
Image
Star Trek 4 and Star Trek: Picard's proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy, will have the same premise if the long-desired Star Trek projects happen. Star Trek: Picard season 3's ending set up a continuation set on the USS Enterprise-g led by Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). From 2009-2016, Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) commanded the Starship Enterprise in the alternate Kelvin timeline of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies. Both Star Trek 4 and Star Trek: Legacy are in drydock with no timeframe for if and when either will go into production.

Star Trek: Legacy would potentially be a show about the children of Star Trek: The Next Generation's iconic crew serving on the newest Enterprise under Captain Seven of Nine. It would fuse legacy characters from Star Trek: Voyager, Tng, and perhaps Star Trek: Deep Space Nine like Star Trek: Picard did, and this includes Q...

Seven Of Nine Getting Her Own Show Is Star Treks Biggest Unfulfilled Wish
Image
A Star Trek show starring Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine is the franchise's biggest unfulfilled wish. Seven of Nine being in Star Trek: Picard's first season seemed unusual at first, since Seven of Nine was from Star Trek: Voyager and not Star Trek: The Next Generation. While Seven's undeniable popularity as a Star Trek character helped pique interest in Star Trek: Picard's first season, the original plan for Star Trek: Picard explains why, out of all potential Star Trek characters, Seven of Nine joined Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) on a new adventure.

After seeing Seven of Nine serving as a Starfleet Commander on the USS Titan-a in Star Trek: Picard season 3, the potential for a Star Trek show focused on Seven of Nine became much clearer. Picard season 3's epilogue featured Captain Seven of Nine taking command of the Titan, now rechristened the USS Enterprise-g, with Commander...
