While everyone loves a good fantasy film series or franchise, there's no question that Hollywood movies have become more and more reliant on the idea of sequels in recent years. Massive franchises like Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean dominate box offices to the point that out of the 10 highest-grossing fantasy films of all time, every single one is either part of a film series or a remake of an older movie.
That isn't to say that sequels are bad, but there is a certain power to a movie that doesn't need a sequel. Fantasy films that stand alone and tell complete stories can be far more satisfying to watch than ones that are clearly putting far more energy into establishing franchise potential than into crafting a compelling narrative. And, of course, there are fads like Disney's avalanche of 90s direct-to-video sequels, with their shoestring budgets and disappointingly outsourced animation.

Pokmon fans have been at a loss as to how best to watch the anime following the shutdown of Pokmon TV earlier this year, but finally, the series has found a new home on PlutoTV. The Pokmon Fast Channel is going live on the free PlutoTV app beginning October 22, 2024.
The new channel will feature select episodes from 22 of the series' 25 seasons, including the original Indigo League, Adventures in the Orange Islands, Johto Journeys, Johto League Champions, and Master Quest. Since the shutdown of Pokmon TV, many of these seasons haven't been available for streaming legally anywhere, making it exceptionally difficult for fans of the series to revisit their favorite episodes. The Pokmon Company previously offered a complex chart of where to find certain seasons of the anime, but PlutoTV's new channel will radically simplify viewing the classic series.

While no network ever plans to have episodes go unaired, pulled from syndication, or removed from streaming services, there have been several notoriously banned TV episodes over the years. This can be due to controversial content, behind-the-scenes issues with the performers involved, or even unforeseen medical reasons. From childrens animation to family-friendly sitcoms, many infamous episodes have garnered their fair share of controversy and had to be banned either temporarily or removed entirely.
Some of the most controversial TV episodes of all time have been subject to censorship and had their planned broadcast changed or interfered with. While viewers may not associate the kid-friendly animated series Bluey with controversy, even this well-meaning show produced an episode thats currently not available on streaming. Many fans of the Pokmon anime have longed to see its characters actually get a chance to grow up, but as it turns out, at least one character has had the honor of being shown as an adult in official media--or so it seemed. However, this appearance really only raised more questions than answers, as the scene it comes from remains an absolute mystery.
In one of the first ads for Pokmon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back, the trailer begins with a scene of two adults and a child watching clouds in the sky, which happen to look like Pokmon. One of these adults happens to strongly resemble an adult version of Misty, which has prompted mountains of speculation as to just what exactly the context of this scene might have been. No such scene appears in the final version of the movie, nor is there even a moment which resembles that scene.

Ash and Pikachu's relationship is at the core of the Pokmon anime, and it might seem as if the pair were brought together entirely by chance. However, one Pokmon movie accidentally provided another reason as to why Pikachu ended up with Ash, and it actually involves time travel.
The fourth Pokmon movie, Pokmon 4Ever, also known as Celebi: Voice of the Forest, revolves around the time-traveling Mythical Pokmon Celebi, who in the course of the film brings forward in time a young boy by the name of Sam. Sam meets Ash and his friends, and together they embark on a quest to protect Celebi from a Team Rocket agent who wields powerful and dangerous Pok Balls that can control almost any Pokmon. Of course, Ash and friends do manage to save Celebi from Team Rocket, and Celebi then takes Sam back to his own time.
The real surprise comes...

Mew is a rare Pokmon with vast psychic powers, the genetic ancestor of all Pokmon, and the basis for Mewtwo. Mew is depicted as a force of nature, detached from humanity and indifferent to human values. Mew's character was intentionally created as capricious, representing nature, and contrasts with Mewtwo's human origins.
Mythical Pokmon are incredibly rare and special species, in both the games and the anime alike. Few are more iconic than Mew, the original Mythical Pokmon, and the Pokmon anime's director confirmed how they managed to capture the elusive creature's traits when it came time for Mew to make its anime debut in Mewtwo Strikes Back.
In-universe, Mew is an incredibly rare Pokmon that wields tremendous psychic power, and is said to be the genetic ancestor of all Pokmon, enabling it to use a wide variety of attacks. Mew's DNA also served as the basis for creating Mewtwo, who...

Ash's Aura abilities are connected to Sir Aaron, an ancient hero, with similarities suggesting a deeper connection. Sir Aaron used Aura to save a kingdom, later sealing his Lucario in a staff until Ash reawakened it. The film suggests Ash may be the reincarnation of Sir Aaron, as evident through their similar appearances and Auras.
One of Ash's most impressive and unique abilities in the Pokmon anime is his capacity to see and use Aura powers, a supernatural ability closely associated with the Pokmon Lucario. While Ash first manifests these abilities back in the late Ruby and Sapphire era, they continued to be relevant to him throughout the run of the series, even well into Journeys. However, the Aura abilities have a very interesting origin, which lies in the film Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

Ash and Pikachu both strive to achieve their dreams their own way, without conforming to traditional norms or expectations. The iconic battle between Pikachu and Raichu mirrors Ash's journey as a kid with big dreams who wants to win on his terms. Pokmon teaches kids that success can be achieved by staying true to oneself, just like Ash and Pikachu demonstrate.
One of the most iconic moments of the early Pokmon anime is undoubtedly the battle between Pikachu and Lt. Surge's Raichu, and the aftermath in which Ash contemplates evolving Pikachu. Pikachu boldly refuses, and his reasons for doing so actually relate to Ash surprisingly well.
In the episode "Electric Shock Showdown," an injured Pikachu, still recuperating from the injuries sustained in battle with Raichu, smacks away the Thunder Stone that Ash attempts to use, and then tries to communicate an idea to Ash. Meowth translates for Team Rocket,...
