You’d have to look pretty far and wide to find anyone in music who has been as consistently good or eternally enjoyable as Miranda Lambert. Almost 20 years into her run, she’s defined her career by always going her own way, both musically and lyrically. Her ninth solo set was recorded in her native Texas with help from peers and longtime collaborators like Brent Cobb, Natalie Hemby, and Jack Ingram, and the album’s co-producer Jon Randall. Postcards From Texas doesn’t have as many genre swerves as Lambert sometimes delivers.

Sitting across from Miranda Lambert, it’s hard not to be confronted by the strength, determination, and “fuck around and find out” attitude that defined one of country music’s most promising debut albums. Kerosene, Lambert’s first major label LP, turns 20 next year, and the Texas songwriter is reflecting on all that led to its 2005 release.
“When I first started, I wanted longevity, a long career and to have relevancy, and be able to play as long as I physically could play,” Lambert tells Rolling Stone. “Luckily, I have...

Miranda Lambert has released another track off her upcoming album Palomino, ahead of its April 29 drop date. “Actin’ Up” is a swaggering slice of woozy country-rock, with Lambert dropping a wealth of pop-culture references in the lyrics.
In the first two verses alone, she alludes to Tommy James and the Shondells’ 1968 hit “Mony Mony,” Steve McQueen’s Mustang, and a golfer currently competing in this weekend’s Masters. “Even Tiger Woods couldn’t swing it this good,” Lambert sings.

Miranda Lambert sings about being in perpetual motion on her new album Palomino. Set for release April 29, it’s the follow-up to her collaborative 2021 album The Marfa Tapes and her first album under her own name since 2019’s Wildcard.
The track list includes a few songs from the bare-bones Marfa Tapes that are gussied up for Palomino, like “Geraldene” and “In His Arms.” There’s also a wealth of new compositions, many of them with songwriters Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby. Dick, Marfa Tapes alum Jon Randall, and Lambert produced the record.

We’re betting on the ACMs to spread the wealth pretty evenly. This year’s Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were a bit polarizing with the glaring exclusions of some artists leading the new wave in country music right now like Kacey Musgraves and Mickey Guyton, and the inclusion of the all-too-controversial Morgan Wallen. With the show coming soon on March 7, let’s take a look at the album and song categories to see who’s likely to win.
Album of the Year
A couple possible scenarios could happen here. The nominee that would make the most sense winning would probably be Morgan Wallen, as “Dangerous: the Double Album” is the most successful album here by a huge margin and was in fact the biggest album of 2021 from any genre. However, I’m still not sure about how much the ACMs will want to give Wallen such a big honor, especially considering he was banned from competing and attending last year’s edition.

This has been an exciting year for country music. From the returns of acclaimed singer-songwriters like Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves to some massive chart successes for acts like Gabby Barrett, Walker Hayes, Luke Combs, and Morgan Wallen, it’s safe to say the genre is having a resurgence. With that in mind, the competition for even a nomination at the Grammys is tightening up, so let’s take a look at the likeliest contenders.
The biggest country players this year will likely be Musgraves and Stapleton. Both artists have previously swept the country field for their respective albums “Golden Hour” and “Traveller,” and both might go head-to-head this year with their current releases “Star-Crossed” and “Starting Over” — Musgraves could be slotted in pop, though, since “Star-Crossed” is more pop-leaning than her previous work. In Stapleton’s case, he’s likely to get performance and/or songwriting noms for one...

The latest episode of CMT’s new series Campfire Sessions featured artists performing intimate acoustic versions of cover songs. Kelsea Ballerini had a standout performance on the July 1st episode, adding a little country twist to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” a 1977 song that went viral last year thanks to a TikTok video.
Ballerini’s rendition doesn’t have the keys or disco-lite beat of the original “Dreams,” but Stevie Nicks’ bittersweet melody gets center stage here amid a set of ringing open chords. With her band members backing her up,...

Jon Randall had been going to Marfa, Texas, and nearby Terlingua since the early 2000s, and he was quickly becoming an evangelist. “It was one of those places that just filled my heart,” the Texas-born songwriter and producer says. “Especially if you’re very creative and ever have an introspective part of you, it’s that place you want to be.”
Randall says he had “oversold” the place to his friends so many times that finally, in 2014, two of his fellow Lone Star natives took him up on the offer.

As the release of their collaborative album The Marfa Tapes draws near, the trio of Miranda Lambert, Jack Ingram, and Jon Randall are popping up with live appearances. On Wednesday, they performed the song “Geraldene” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and followed it with the Thursday announcement of a new documentary.
Like their previous televised performances, the trio’s version of “Geraldene” is an all-acoustic performance that has the looseness of a friendly jam session. Lambert smiles her way through the funky, swaggering tune referencing a woman who’s “trailer-park pretty” and causing domestic trouble.

For the second time in just seven months, the Academy of Country Music handed out its annual awards. After the 2020 ACM Awards were delayed from April to September because of the pandemic, the organization moved the show from Las Vegas to Nashville for the first time in its history. And if those ACMs made a point of being transparent in their approach to Covid safety, this year’s show did the same in the way it addressed country music’s inclusivity problem.

Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett were named the best new male and female artists of the year by the Academy of Country Music in pre-telecast reveals posted Thursday morning.

Barrett, sitting at a conference room table, was just a little more expectant when opening her video card:”Oh my God! Now I know why you told me to put on my makeup and get dressed.”
