Ishida's mother, Sue, who passed away on August 25, 2010 was a schoolteacher and administrator for many years in the Lodi, California Unified School District, where she was also Director of Instructional Materials.
He and his family were once detainees at a Japanese internment camp for little over a year during World War II in Rohwer, Arkansas and were released shortly after the war ended in 1945.
Presently lives with wife Margaret, and family in California. (August 2010)
