The title of the darkly comic murder-fest “Trompoppie” is Afrikaans for drum majorette. We first meet aspiring South African gymnast Luna (Melissa Myburgh), whose mom died leaving her with a drunk, depressed and broke dad. Poppa wants the best for her – a top-notch gym academy in Russia – but they can’t even cover their daily overhead. During a workout, she’s seen by a wealthy local celeb, Jill (Marion Holm), who decides to pay for Luna to attend the city’s posh high school and live with her family, in exchange for adapting her skills for the majorette squad her daughter Zanne (Celeste Loots) is due to captain. There’s a big competition that means the world to Jill and the school, and Luna seems to offer the pizzazz element needed to boost them from also-rans to champs.

Jonathan Bailey recently entered the world of "Jurassic Park" via the franchise's latest legacy sequel, "Jurassic World Rebirth." Appearing alongside Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, Bailey stars as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. The movie sees Bailey's Loomis and Johansson's Zora Bennett tasked with retrieving genetic samples from dinosaurs at an abandoned research facility in order to develop a new treatment for heart disease. Building on the previous "Jurassic World" movies, all of which have focused on InGen creating its own dinosaur species and using its cloning technology in unprecedented (and often dubious) ways, "Rebirth" introduced new dinosaurs like the giant six-limbed Distortus rex, as well as the flying raptor-like Mutadons.
However, "Rebirth" isn't the first time Bailey has encountered a strange, fantastical creature on screen. The first time around, though, the creature in question was far more amicable and much less terrifying than a giant mutant dinosaur. We're referring, of course,...

Monty Python star Eric Idle has bashed Donald Trump and his administration, saying he would be “proud to be thrown out” of the U.S..
In an interview with The Guardian, which featured questions from multiple celebrities – including Eddie Izzard, Tracey Ullman, Steve Coogan and David Mamet – Idle delivered a vicious takedown of the president.
Asked “what’s genuinely funny about Donald Trump?” Idle responded, “There’s nothing funny about Donald Trump. What will be funny is when he leaves office and we have a big party and dance in the streets.”
Idle went on to declare that the president had “no end of capacity for stupidity,” calling him a “treasonous monster who works for Putin.”
“Every summer I go to France because I can’t stand the news. I can’t stand hearing about that man every minute of every day. They’re completely obsessed by him in the U.

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie may be making headlines now thanks to the massive success of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, but long before the pair ever teamed up in the titles of actor and director, their paths first crossed in a WWII movie which the latter co-penned. That film would be the 2008 historical thriller, Valkyrie, in which Cruise starred and McQuarrie joined forces with fellow scribe Nathan Alexander to write. The project sparked the collaborative spirit between the leading man and the behind-the-scenes creative, as it led them to eventually strike out with 2012’s Jack Reacher — a favorite from Cruise’s sprawling portfolio of genre work. Right now, fans can see where the dynamic duo’s relationship all began free of charge, as Valkyrie is streaming on Tubi.

The puzzle-solving character from the Da Vinci Code novel is getting a new small-screen adaptation. In 2021, Peacock attempted to bring Robert Langdon to an episodic form with the series The Lost Symbol. Based on the 2009 novel by Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol starred Ashley Zukerman as young Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon as he must solve a series of deadly puzzles to save his kidnapped mentor and thwart a chilling global conspiracy. In addition to Zukerman, The Lost Symbol also starred Valorie Curry, Sumalee Montano, Rick Gonzalez, Eddie Izzard and Beau Knapp.
Unfortunately, The Lost Symbol failed to resonate with audiences and the show was canceled after one season. Netflix is hoping to find the pulse of viewers that Peacock couldn’t quite put their finger on. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Netflix is developing a show on The Secret of Secrets, which is the latest novel from author Dan Brown.

On May 7, 2022, a historic moment in comedy unfolded at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. LGBTQ+ comedians from around the world gathered for an unprecedented performance celebrating diverse voices and groundbreaking achievements in Netflix's stand-up special Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration. While audiences may have viewed it as an epic comedy night, for filmmaker Page Hurwitz, it became much more: the backbone of her documentary, Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution.
“The truth is that the documentary came first,” Hurwitz tells Gold Derby. “When I envisioned the documentary, I envisioned having this big LGBTQ historic comedy show that would serve as sort of this energetic spine and envelope for a documentary. When I pitched the concept to Netflix, they loved it. What I wanted to do is create a documentary that felt as dynamic as our community. By combining these disparate elements of having original performances with sit down interviews, with their taped footage,...

The superhero has now taken over cinema thanks to the likes of the MCU and the SnyderVerse but, believe it or not, there was a time when this wasn’t the case. While superhero movies were more of a rarity, a unique send-up of the genre did emerge way, way back in 1999. And it was well ahead of its time...as the divisive response proves. Starring an all-star cast that includes Ben Stiller and William H. Macy, Mystery Men is now headed to free streaming. And, perhaps in this golden age of superhero movies, the comedy can finally get the recognition it deserves.
Directed by Kinka Usher in his feature-length directorial debut, and written by Neil Cuthbert, Mystery Men is loosely based on the "Flaming Carrot Comics" by Bob Burden. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Claire Forlani, Kel Mitchell, Paul Reubens,...

Eric Idle isn’t exactly known for holding back his opinions on social media. After all, he’s been spilling digital tea relating to Monty Python for quite a while now. Most recently, Idle took the opportunity to blast an old TV special that, in his opinion, represents the troupe’s creative rock bottom.
A Python fan shared a clip in which “seventh Python” Carol Cleveland asks if the BBC is “dumbing” their programming down, before introducing a panel of brick-toting Gumbys. The scene was an excerpt from 1999’s Python Night, which Idle was quick to dismiss as “unquestionably the worst Python show ever.”
Python Night was an evening of programming on BBC Two that included documentaries and clip shows, all intended to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Most significantly, it actually featured new material from the Pythons. Well, some of the Pythons.

Netflix subscribers often question the how and why of the steamer's decisions to cancel or renew a series. It isn't as easy as it's a well-liked show. The streamer carefully weighs the performance of a new release against how much it costs to make it. One new series in 2024 was well received but sadly canceled, and we think it deserves a second chance. And that's Kaos starring Jeff Goldblum.
Kaos was created by Charlie Covell, known forThe End of the F***ing World, for Netflix. The eight-part mythological dark comedy premiered on the streamer in August 2024 to positive reviews. In October of that year just a couple of months later, Netflix announced that the series was canceled, much to the dismay of viewers who thoroughly enjoyed it.

In the early 1990s, Denis Leary hit the comedy circuit with a bang with his No Cure for Cancer routine, which touched on themes around smoking, drug use and political correctness.
Leary might be tempted to jump aboard a bandwagon that finds today’s comedians to be less brave and risky than when he first came up, but he eschews that temptation.
“Comedy is not everybody’s cup of tea but god damn you think you’ve seen everything and then you see someone else coming who makes you laugh your ass off,” he told Deadline. “Generationally, there are always [new] people.”
Leary points to the way in which “edgy” comedy greats one generation below him like Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle smashed barriers, but he is also enthused by younger comedians such as Daily Show performer Ronny Chieng. “He came over to America at a young age and cut his...

Fans can now watch an underrated 19-year-old superhero film helmed by the late Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. My Super Ex-Girlfriend, starring Uma Thurman, is now streaming on Hulu.
Co-starring Luke Wilson, the romantic comedy movie features Thurman as the superhero Jennifer Johnson/G-Girl, who received the powers of flight, superhuman strength, speed, heightened senses, invulnerability, super breath, and heat vision after being exposed to radiation from a crashed meteorite as a teenager. Although Beatlemania typically refers to the initial hype around the iconic band, one could argue that it’s had a second coming recently with a slew of other Beatles-focused media from filmmakers like Peter Jackson and Martin Scorsese. With a conventional screenplay and many limitations because of its budget, Midas Man is charming nonetheless thanks to a strong lead performance and a bountiful helping of nostalgia for one of the most iconic bands in the world.
Midas Man Review
Midas Man tells the story of Brian Epstein, the entrepreneur who — despite no experience in the music industry — discovered The Beatles in a Liverpool bar and became their manager, launching them into superstardom. While this claims not to be a Beatles biopic, it sure focuses a lot on Epstein’s time with the band, although who can blame the filmmakers? That’s what sells tickets.

Forget “Nashville’s Big Bash,” “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” and Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper taking advantage of CNN’s refreshment budget. TV’s most popular New Year’s tradition is fast becoming a Netflix whodunit which continually drops the ball in plot, dialogue, and anything approaching the human condition.
Indeed, following the success of “Stay Close” and “Fool Me Once,” the streaming giant is once again ringing in the New Year with the help of potboiler extraordinaire Harlan Coben. This time around, it’s his 2014 novel “Missing You” getting the small screen treatment across five episodes precision tooled to binge along with your party leftovers. And it may well be the most far-fetched yet, no tall order considering previous ventures have involved everything from decapitated alpacas and deepfaked dead partners to a murderous cabaret duo named Ken and Barbie.

Sean Connery holds the honor of being the first big screen 007. Connery made his James Bond debut in 1962 with the Terrence Young-directed film Dr. No. Connery went on to star in five more James Bond films — From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever — even returning to the franchise after a brief interruption by George Lazenby's one-off Bond film and the non-Eon Bond movie Never Say Never Again. Little did he know at the time that the Bond movies would become one of the biggest action franchises to date.

Although he has now retired from acting, Michael Caine's impact on the movie industry cannot be overstated. As a working actor for the better part of eight decades, Caine became one of the most well-established actors in British history, with roles spanning from early British cinema to modern American blockbusters. Even the most casual film viewers could easily identify the actor's signature voice or might even recognize him from a leading role or one of his many supporting roles in Christopher Nolan's filmography.
With such a jam-packed career, it can be hard to gauge what films Michael Caine truly allowed to soar, and any list is bound to leave out a few of his most impactful works. Of course, not everything Caine appeared in was a cinematic masterpiece — quite the contrary. But in his best roles, Caine added a cherry on top to a phenomenal film, and in the worst instances,...

The following article contains themes of suicide, suicidal ideation, violence, animal death, and psychological abuse.
Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal (2013-2015) is undeniably dark and violent, which is no big surprise coming from a crime drama centered around a cannibalistic serial killer. This psychological horror series boasts complex character arcs, beautiful cinematography, and plenty of heavy themes even beyond murder and cannibalism. Drawing from Thomas Harris’ first novel in the series, Red Dragon, the show remains largely faithful to the source material with just a few key deviations (such as the choice not to explore Mads Mikkelsen's Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s backstory).
While it may be unexpected for a show of this nature to also be a tear-jerker, the NBC Hannibal series has hit fans right in the feels on plenty of occasions, and not just because the series was prematurely canceled before Hannibal season 4 could happen. Now, a full decade later,...

Sometimes, a comic will cultivate a stage persona that’s angry and dark (Marc Maron) so you’ll be impressed by their depth. Others are so virtuosic (Eddie Izzard) that you’re struck by the elegance of their writing. As for Fortune Feimster? She’s an adorable goof whose recurring motifs include her mom’s quirky dating life, her own love for chain restaurants and her preferred bathing costume: a huge T-shirt and cutoff sweatpants, aka her “lesbian swimsuit.” In Feimster’s latest special — Crushing It, out today on Netflix — politics come closer to the fore than they have in the past, but not in a way that makes it seem like she’s straining for profundity. Her craft and skill are so finely honed that you might mainly remember her having a good time all the time, and only notice long after her set is over how much it actually affected you.

Did Daniel Radcliffe Ever Show Up Drunk On Set Of Harry Potter? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Daniel Radcliffe once admitted that he sometimes hit the Harry Potter set still feeling the effects of wild, boozy nights. According to The Independent, he opened up about his struggles with alcohol during interviews before quitting in August 2010. But there’s a twist. “I can honestly say I never drank at work on Harry Potter. I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work,” the actor clarified.
Take a moment to process that. Radcliffe even confessed he could pinpoint scenes where his performance wasn’t all there. “Dead behind the eyes,” he called it. For fans, it’s bittersweet. While Harry Potter holds a magical place in our hearts, hearing this adds a layer of heartbreak. Imagine not being fully present for something so iconic—and for Radcliffe, it clearly wasn’t easy either.

“When Vir Das hears an American comedian talk about being “canceled,” he can only laugh.
“Every time an American comedian complains about getting canceled, I’m like: ‘Grab a flight to India, just let me show you something,’ ” says the Indian stand-up comedian and actor.
Three years ago, Das got a taste of cancel culture, Indian style. His “Two Indias” routine, performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington on Nov. 12, 2021, in which he pointed to the absurd contrasts in his home country — “I come from an India where we worship women during the day and gang rape them at night” — triggered a furious backlash. Politicians from India’s ruling Bjp party accused him of defaming the nation and filed criminal charges. He got bombarded with death threats.

Former President Donld Trump looks set to sit for an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan on Friday in the hunt for male voters.
A first-time appearance by Trump on The Joe Rogan Experience was first reported by Politico. A spokesperson for Spotify, which has a multiyear partnership deal for Rogan’s podcast, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s potential appearance.
The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the most popular podcasts with an audience that skews 81 percent male, with more than 50 percent under 35 years old (according to a YouGov poll). The new distribution deal for the show allows several podcast platforms, as well as on YouTube, rather than remaining exclusive to Spotify, as it had been since 2020.

Biopic of The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein Midas Man needed a lot of Help! to get over the finish line. Here’s the trailer.
Rock biopics, it seems, are a difficult genre to navigate. Bohemian Rhapsody originally had Bryan Singer at the helm before Dexter Fletcher finished the film, for instance.
A similar fate has befallen Midas Man, a biopic of The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. It began production in 2021 with Jonas Åkerlund directing, only for Sara Sugarman to take over later that year. When Sugarman departed, Joe Stephenson eventually took the reins to finally get the film over the finish line. In each case, the directors are said to have left over “creative differences”.

In 1986, Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon introduced the world's classiest antihero: Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a sociopathic psychiatrist whose sophistication belies his savage sadism. Further books and popular screen adaptations fleshed out this cultivated killer, and in 2013, Bryan Fuller gave him his own show, Hannibal. The three-season series is a feast for the eyes worthy of its refined star, and this list explores its most gruesomely gorgeous crime scenes, along with the cultural references they carry.
As any fan knows, Hannibal Lecter is all about good taste: The erudite super-genius kills the crude and crass and improves their literal taste by transforming their remains into culinary masterpieces. His heightened senses correlate with extreme cultural sensitivity, and in Bryan Fuller's world, he is joined by other killers with similar aesthetic sensibilities. The following tableaus reflect the highest achievements in art history, science, religion, and more all carried out by deadly criminals.

Tell me if you've heard this one before: barely a month after a new show premiered its first season on Netflix, the streamer has decided to unceremoniously cancel it and chuck it in the bin. In this case, the show is Kaos, a series about Greek mythology set in the modern day, with characters like Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) and Hera (Janet McTeer) lording over Greece while mere humans scramble to worship them. Or at least that's what the humans are supposed to do; Kaos is all about what happens when that system goes off the rails, thanks in no small part to an unhealthy dose of paranoia and broken promises from the gods in charge.
Variety reports that Netfix has decided not to renew Kaos for a second season. It debuted on the platform on August 29, which means this decision comes just over five weeks later. That's a pretty short...

Netflix has decided not to return to Mount Olympus, canceling its series Kaos after a single season.
The decision comes about six weeks after the dark comedy, based on Greek and Roman mythology and created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World), made its debut on the streamer. Kaos appeared in Netflix’s top 10 charts for English-language series in each of its first four weeks, topping out at No. 3 for the week of Sept. 2-8. It earned 14.9 million views (measured by total viewing time divided by running time) over those weeks, a middling number by the streamer’s standards.
In the United States, the show had 3.34 million views as of Sept. 8, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings (viewing totals for subsequent weeks aren’t yet available).

“Kaos” will no longer reign on Netflix. The streamer has canceled the Greek mythology series, TheWrap has learned. The show hailed from “The End of the F***king World” creator Charlie Covell and put a modern twist on Greek mythology – three humans contend with the corrupt gods as they discover their connection to one another and an overarching prophecy.
Jeff Goldblum played Zeus in the show with Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus.
The ensemble also included Aurora Perrineau, Leila Farzad, Suzy Eddie Izzard and Rakie Ayola. “Kaos” premiered on Aug. 29, so this is a pretty swift cancellation from Netflix. The show debuted with only 3.4 million views during its first week of release, ticked up to 5.9 million views in its second week and then dipped back down to 3.4 million on its third week.

Kaos was first greenlit in 2018 after being created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World). The series was produced by Sister, the UK drama powerhouse, and Deadline understands that preparations were well underway for a second season.

The best comedy TV shows of 2024 are a combination of new gems and follow-up seasons of existing favorites. Most comedies embody a hyphenated genre, merging elements of drama, action, music, sport, and even documentary with humor. End-of-year awards like the Emmys have a category problem, leaving many viewers wondering, "Wait, that was a comedy?" or "Surely, that was too dark to be a comedy." While these blurred lines also make it harder to demarcate the genre, they mostly make comedies all the more enjoyable.

Technically, this one snuck in just under the wire last month, but if you haven’t watched Netflix’s take on the Greek gods, you definitely should. Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus, who starts to spiral into divine disarray after he finds a wrinkle in his forehead and believes it’s a prophetic sign of his downfall.

Greek mythology shows have been popular across various genres for decades, with the epic myths and legends of the ancient civilization recreated for the small screen, or even simply inspiring new stories for the modern era. Greek mythology is regularly adapted for the small screen due to how poetic, tragic, and philosophical it can be. That has allowed it to be relatable for fans of everything from romantic stories to high drama to superhero tales. There are even some Greek mythology shows that hide their inspiration by the myths and legends of Ancient Greece so well most viewers have no idea they're based on millennia-old source material.
Whether it's epic heroes or the gods on Mount Olympus themselves, Greek mythology is notorious for how wild and unpredictable it can be, making it the perfect source material for thrilling TV shows. Even something as seemingly harmless as having an illegitimate child...

Although Netflix has yet to renew the series for Season 2, creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) said the streaming platform has “been very supportive” of the show, which puts a contemporary spin on the classic tales of Greek mythology.
“I think anything is possible,” Covell told Cosmopolitan UK. “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it.”
They added about the potential for a sophomore season, “There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team.

For those who want something a little more adult than Percy Jackson, but slightly less dark than American Gods, Kaos may be the modern mythological reimagining you’re looking for. It’s a darkly comedic, rambunctious family affair from creator Charlie Covell (The End Of The F**king World), whose irreverent take will have you falling for gods and mortals alike.
Jeff Goldblum is in his element as Zeus, the king of the gods, playing him as notoriously unstable and self-obsessed. It seems that all of his family have left him alone on Mount Olympus, with the exception of his wife, Hera (Janet McTeer), and his son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan). When an unknown group of mortals hijack Olympia’s offering to the gods with a literal pile of shit, Zeus is forced to face the fact that his family is falling apart, and people...

The article contains spoilers for Kaos season 1.
Kaos season 2 gets an optimistic and detailed update from creator Charlie Covell. Consisting of eight episodes and debuting on Netflix in late August, Kaos has a dual focus. On one side, there's Zeus (Jeff Goldblum). He's paranoid, beginning to fear the end of his reign as he grows more vengeful towards humanity. It also centers on three humans who discover their connection to an ancient prophecy while battling the corrupt gods of classical mythology.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Covell was asked about the chances of Kaos season 2. The show creator, writer, and executive producer mentioned his hope that the first season could be satisfying in its own right. But he also revealed his hopes for the show's future and noted that Netflix has supported the fantasy series even though a season 2 renewal is not confirmed yet, quoting: "Not yet, but they've been very supportive of it.

Jeff Goldblum plays Zeus, king of the gods, in Kaos. In the marketing for the Netflix series, he’s been positioned as more of an Atlas-like figure, with the entire show carried on his back—and his twitchy, stuttering shtick. In actuality, Kaos is distributed pretty evenly among its large cast of characters, many of whom don’t really seem like they belong to the same world, and none of whom prove strong enough to keep the series from crumbling.
Kaos takes place in a world not unlike our present one, except here the Greek gods are real and rule over humanity from atop Mount Olympus. We’re introduced to the major members of this pantheon of gods in an opening sequence set to Dire Straits’s “Money for Nothing,” with each character title often followed by a smaller one offering some glib addendum. This introductory sequence—and the rest...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Netflix's Kaos
The incredible ensemble cast of Netflix's Kaos gives memorable and hilarious performances, bringing to life Ancient Greek myths with a contemporary twist. The dark comedy Kaos follows Riddy (Eurydice), Ceaneus, and Ari (Ariadne) who are fated to bring down the Greek Gods, led by Jeff Goldblum's Zeus. The series has a sharp script, utilizes exciting cinematography, and incorporates a strong soundtrack all of which help make the series so strong.
However, none of these aspects would have mattered if it weren't for the great performances by the cast. Kaos brings together a large ensemble cast of predominantly well-established actors who masterfully characterize the Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes. However, some actors with smaller portfolios rise to the occasion of representing well-known figures from mythology in Kaos.

Each Voldemort actor in the Harry Potter franchise portrayed different stages of the dark wizard's life and transformations. The evolution of Voldemort's character required different actors to show various versions from childhood to full power. With the Harry Potter universe getting a reboot, more performers will join the list of Voldemort actors in the future.
Every Lord Voldemort actor throughout the Harry Potter movies and beyond has had a certain purpose in bringing the evil wizard to life. Initially spoken of in hushed tones only, Harry Potter introduces the legend of Voldemort in its very first book, depicting a dark, fearsome wizard who terrorized the magic world, only to be defeated while attempting to kill a young Harry Potter. That led to various versions of Voldemort appearing throughout the franchise, meaning seven actors played He Who Must Not Be Named in various movies.
