Rapper and comedian Anders Matthesen will play Tommy Seebach, a Danish pop culture icon, in Sf Studios’ new movie, “Under the Stars in the Sky.”

The film will be directed by Kasper Gaardsøe with a screenplay by Jannik Tai Mosholt and Stefan Jaworski. “Under the Stars in the Sky” is produced by Tall and Small, and Sf Studios is co-producing and distributing the film in the Nordics. The movie will start shooting in spring 2024 and have its theatrical release in Denmark in February 2025.

“Under the Stars in the Sky” will chart Seebach’s rise to fame after participating in the Danish Song Grand Prix with the cult hit “Disco Tango” in 1979. The song became a huge hit in Denmark, ranking sixth in the Eurovision Song Contest, at which Seebach represented Denmark three times.

There is nothing in A Beautiful Life that we haven’t seen multiple times before. It tells a worn-out story filled with the same tried-and-true ways of making a film. Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Today we have this year’s edition, as voted on by 375 film executives.

Topping the 2021 edition is Daniel Jackon’s Cauliflower, which follows the tale of a high school wrestler battling a bizarre infection in his ear. Coming in second was Lily Hollander’s See How They Run, following a blind mother who moves into a remote farmhouse with her young daughter as the mystery surrounding the previous inhabitants grows.

The Black List, an annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, has unleashed its 2021 edition — a smattering of delicious pop biopics, true crime and even a psychodrama about Mickey Rourke appearing on “The Masked Singer.”

Founded in 2005 by Franklin Leonard, the list surveys top studio and development executives asking them to share the scripts they adored but haven’t yet greenlit. The rankings are then cross-referenced, and popularity is calculated by the frequency a title appears (the “mentions”).

The top script on this year’s list is “Cauliflower,” an intense drama from writer Daniel Jackson.

“Under the cruel guidance of a mysterious coach, an ambitious high school wrestler struggles to become a state champion while battling a bizarre infection in his ear that both makes him dominant in his sport and threatens his sanity,” the synopsis reads. The script was mentioned 32 times across rankings. Jackson is repped by UTA and Bellevue.

The Black List unveiled its annual list of the best unproduced screenplays of the year December 13, as decided by a group of industry peers totaling 375 executives. The announcement came via four videos emceed by Ashley Nicole Black and Gabrielle Dennis of “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” and including appearances from Oscar-winning screenwriters Florian Zeller (“The Father”) and Emerald Fennell (“Promising You Woman”). Also joining the guests was “King Richard” screenwriter Zach Baylin. Both “Richard” and “Promising” were ranked high on the 2018 Black List.

The Black List has included four scripts that went on to win Best Picture Oscars, including “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Argo,” “Spotlight,” and “The King’s Speech.”

Riding the recent wave of movie serial killers making the move to TV ("Hannibal," "Bates Motel"), Patrick Bateman is poised the join the ranks at FX.

The cable net and Lionsgate TV have partnered to work on a sequel TV series to "American Psycho," the 2000 feature film, based on Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel of the same name. The drama will center on the iconic killer (played by Christian Bale in the film), now in his mid-50s but just as lethal as ever. Bateman takes on a protege in a sadistic social experiment, one who eventually becomes his equal -- the next generation American Psycho.

Stefan Jaworski will write the project, as well as executive produce alongside Allison Shearmur and Ed Pressman. No actors are attached to the project as of yet.

Deadline has announced that, with flagrant disregard for what made the original source material so great, FX has put a sequel TV series to American Psycho in development. There have long been rumours of a remake on the cards, even though the original adaptation didn’t actually come out that long ago, but it seems like a TV series – if unsuccessful – would scotch any idea of that. If the American Psycho TV series went on to Breaking Bad levels of quality and infamy, then obviously a remake would become extremely likely.

The show comes courtesy of FX and Lionsgate TV, the televisual arm of Lionsgate Films (duh), distributors of the 2000 original. Former head of production at Lionsgate-turned producer Allison Shearmur, along with writer Stefan Jaworski, plan to strip away the central metaphor of the novel by removing it from its 1980′s period setting and setting it in the modern day.

FX are developing a TV sequel to American Psycho.

Bret Easton Ellis's original novel focused on a wealthy investment banker who was secretly a serial killer in the late 1980s.

Christian Bale starred as Patrick Bateman in a film version in 2000, directed by Mary Harron.

The TV series will be set several years after the book ended, and will feature Bateman in his mid-50s as he hires a new apprentice.

The official tagline for the show reads: "In the new drama series, iconic serial killer Patrick Bateman, now in his mid-50s but as outrageous and lethal as ever, takes on a protégé in a sadistic social experiment who will become every bit his equal - a next-generation American Psycho."

Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:

some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.

The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like. They read the screenplays that float around the showbiz ecosystem; some are bought and are already in development while others are still seeing the interest of talent of financial backers.

This year at the Austin Film Festival, studio executive and “Black List” founder Franklin Leonard introduced the opening film, Butter. It’s a fantastic satirical comedy written by Jason Micallef and Leonard’s post-screening Q&A with him was equally hilarious and unconventional.

Sitting in the upper deck at the Paramount Theatre, I was in awe at how Leonard had not only created the list just six years prior but how it provided such legitimacy to emerging screenwriters, like Micallef. He was relatively unknown in ‘08, but his script placed third on the list. Now he has a movie coming out starring Jennifer Garner, his new scripts have Jack Black and Jason Segel attached (separately), and he wrote a movie titled Good Vibrations about, um, marital aids starring Charlize Theron. Twentieth Century Fox have gotten their hands on a spec script called “The Last Witness” by Danish writer Stefan Jaworski, reports Variety. Described as a “ticking-clock thriller”, the film would center on the lone survivor of a bomb attack in Boston, thus making him the last living witness, I guess you could say. Producer John Davis and his Davis Entertainment brought the project over to Fox, where Peter Kang will oversee for the studio. Stefan Jaworski is quite a prolific writer in his native Denmark, with a string of TV shows to his credit, including the features “The Candidate” and “The Gold of Valhalla”. “The Last Witness” will be his first Hollywood movie according to IMDb.com.

Twentieth Century Fox is in final negotiations to acquire the speculative screenplay The Last Witness, from Danish screenwriter Stefan Jaworski as he is ready to make his English-language debut with this.

The script is about the sole survivor of a bombing in Boston, and since it’s classified as a ticking-clock thriller it is due to some sort of suspense thriller that contains a race against the clock with lots of violence, and an apparent antagonist. As no other story details were given, I’m speculating he’s charged with either finding the bomber or stop another attack in very short amount of time.

The thriller will be produced through Davis Entertainment, which first brought the project to the studio, with Fox’s own Peter Kang managing the project. Fox executive Kang also closed the deal last Friday and acquired screen rights to Matthew Quirk’s first novel” The Five Hundred.

Beau Willimon is writing the screenplay and the film is based on the recent Danish thriller Kandidaten. In film, an aspiring lawyer wakes up in a hotel room with scant memories of the woman he met the night before, only to discover she's dead in the bathroom -- and he's about to be blackmailed for her murder. As he fights to clear his name, he uncovers a conspiracy that leads back to his own father's mysterious death. Written by Stefan Jaworski, the original played in theaters in Denmark last year, but has no American distributor at the moment. The original film's producers, Peter Bose and Jonas Allen of Miso Film, will executive produce the remake. Scribe Willimon previously wrote the political play Farragut North, which at one time Warner Bros.

Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) is attached to star in a remake of the recent Danish thriller "The Candidate." Beau Willimon has been hired to write the project, and Summit has picked up the remake rights. In "The Candidate," a defense attorney goes on the hunt for a group of blackmailers when he is suddenly accused of murder. In a "nothing is what it seems" fantasia reminiscent of David Fincher's "The Game," the mystery ends up tying back into the suspicious death of the lawyer's father. Written by Stefan Jaworski, "The Candidate" played in theaters in Denmark in the fall, but it has no American distributor at the moment.

Industry Entertainment, which reps the original film's director, Kasper Barfoed, and star, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, as well as Worthington, packaged the project. Several bidders got involved until Summit's Erik Feig nabbed it.

Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing. Worthington might also produce.
