- He recorded two album of songs in duet with Frank Sinatra.
- Co-author of the song "Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema" in the original Portuguese), one of the most played and recorded songs ever. The song was first inspired by Helô Pinheiro, a young girl he and poet Vinicius de Moraes used to see passing in Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. English lyrics later added, were written by Norman Gimbel.
