While many will know Ice Cube as a founding member of the hip-hop trio N.W.A., whose story was chronicled in the biopic Straight Outta Compton, he’s also carved out an impressive second career as an actor.

As one of the most influential gangsta rappers of all time, Ice Cube’s musical legacy helped shape West Coast hip-hop’s early identity as his lyrics pushed back against police brutality and oppression. Ice Cube broke into acting with John Singleton’s coming-of-age classicBoyz n the Hood, before showing off his funny side alongside Chris Tucker in a stoner sleeper hit.

'It's Still Gonna Be Fun': Ice Cube Talks Making Friday 4 After Co-Stars' Deaths (& Chris Tucker's Possible Return)
Image
It was recently confirmed that the fourth Fridaymovie, dubbed Last Friday, is finally moving forward. While the film will be missing some fan favorite stars from the franchise, Ice Cube has promised that it's still going to be a "fun" film for the fans.

Cube addressed Last Friday during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. It was brought up how fans would be missing late franchise stars John Witherspoon (Pops), Tiny Lister (Deebo), and Al Johnson (Ezal), given how much their previous appearances were enjoyed. Cube confirmed that the new film will address these losses, but he wanted to assure fans that the comedy movie will still be a funny film that catches up with other familiar Friday characters. He also hinted how Last Friday will be about revisiting the family in 2025, though he couldn't share any specific plot details.

"It’s something you have to address," Cube explained.

The entire Friday trilogy is available for streaming on HBO's Max streaming service.Friday, Next Friday, and Friday After Next were all added to the Max streaming library on April 1, just a day before it was announced that a fourth Friday had officially entered development.

Ice Cube Sets ‘Friday’ Sequel At Warner Bros. & New Line Cinema
Image
Although it’s only Hump Day, Ice Cube is getting audiences ready for the weekend as he returns to the role that started it all.

The Grammy winner has inked a deal with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to write and reprise his role as Craig Jones in Last Friday, the fourth entry in his comedy Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002).

New Line Cco Richard Brener revealed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after he “closed a deal” with the star, who previously teased that the sequel had “finally got some traction” in June 2024.

“They have new leadership, my man Mike DeLuca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins. Mike DeLuca was there,” he explained at the time.

It's official: Friday 4 is in the works. After several years of Ice Cube trying to get a fourth movie in the Friday franchise off the ground, the sequel has been confirmed to be in development.

The revelation was divulged directly by New Line president and Cco, Richard Brener, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He shared that a deal was just finalized for Ice Cube to return for a fourth Friday film that he'll also be writing in addition to returning to his on-screen role. Ice Cube’s Cult Favorite Comedy Franchise Dominating Netflix Charts As Its Final Movie Remains In Development Hell
Image
A cult classic comedy franchise starring Ice Cube has multiple installments trending on streaming three decades after the premiere of the first movie. Ice Cube is best known as a rap icon, having been a key member of the gangsta rap group N.W.A., which was formed in 1987. In the early 1990s, he began a career as an actor, making his feature debut in the 1991 John Singleton classic Boyz n the Hood, following that up with performances in Walter Hill's Trespass and Charles Burnett's The Glass Shield.

However, over the years, Ice Cube began to embrace more of a comic persona onscreen, which led him to star in multiple franchises in the comedy genre over the years. This includes the Barbershop franchise, which now includes three movies, a spinoff, and a television remake. He also starred in the 2005 road trip comedy Are We There Yet? and its 2007 sequel Are We Done Yet?...

Friday Cast & Character Guide: Every Actor In The Movie Who Has Died
Image
The 1995 buddy comedy Friday's cast features some of the most prominent Black actors of the time, though sadly, there are several notable members of the Friday cast who have since passed away. Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, follows the day in the life of Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and his listless friend Smokey (Tucker) after Craig is fired from his job. Unlike some other iconic Black movies of the era, Friday is a light comedy without the dramatic stakes and violence found in films like New Jack City or Boyz n the Hood.

Friday shows that just because life in the neighborhoods where writers Ice Cube and DJ Pooh grew up can be dangerous doesn't mean they can't be fun as well. Smokey, Craig, and the rest of the Friday characters have to deal with a certain amount of bullying and illegal activities, but for the most part,...

Image
It might be nearly 25 years later, but luckily for Ice Cube, there’s always another Friday around the corner.

The N.W.A. alum recently shared an update on the long-awaited fourth installment of the Friday franchise more than 20 years after the last sequel was released, as he develops a follow-up with Warner Bros.

“We’re working on it. We finally got some traction with Warner Bros,” Ice Cube told Flavor Flav on his SiriusXM show Flavor of the Week. “They have new leadership, my man Mike DeLuca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins. Mike DeLuca was there.

“So, now he’s running Warner Bros. And him and my man Michael Gruber was like, ‘Yo, what the fuck is going on with Friday? Man, let’s get this shit back online,'” he added.

New Slipknot Funko Pop! Figure Collection Includes Ousted Drummer Jay Weinberg
Image
A new line of Slipknot Funko Pop! figures has been announced, and somewhat surprisingly, the line features ousted drummer Jay Weinberg.

The Weinberg fig is among six in the new collection, which also includes Slipknot founder Shawn “Clown” Crahan, guitarists Jim Root and Mick Thomson, bassist Alessandro “V-Man” Venturella, and percussionist Michael “Tortilla Man” Pfaff. The set arrives in March 2024.

The inclusion of Weinberg comes after the band made the “creative decision” to part ways with the drummer in November. Weinberg later said he was “heartbroken and blindsided” by his removal, ending a near-decade stint in the band that began in 2014 and encompassed three studio albums.

It would appear that the Funko Pop! figurines were already in production before the personnel change. Even the figure’s description is outdated and still reads in the present tense: “Light up your music collection with Jay Weinberg, the drummer for the heavy metal band Slipknot!

Slipknot Part Ways with Drummer Jay Weinberg
Image
Slipknot have announced that they’ve parted ways with drummer Jay Weinberg, calling it a “creative decision.”

On Sunday (November 5th), the band posted the following statement to its social pages:

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

Weinberg had been a member of Slipknot for nearly a decade, joining the band in 2014 following the departure of founding drummer Joey Jordison. He played on three of the...

How Old Ice Cube Was In Every Friday Movie
Image
Ice Cube was 26 when he starred in Friday, transitioning from music to comedy and paving the way for his success in comedic roles. In Next Friday, released five years later, Ice Cube was 31 and Chris Tucker did not appear. Mike Epps took Tucker's place as co-star. Ice Cube was 33 in Friday After Next, the last installment of the franchise. Talks of a fourth film have been ongoing, but no solid plans have been made.

Ice Cube portrays Craig Jones in the iconic Friday franchise, and here is how old he was in each film. The Friday films, which include Friday, Next Friday, and Friday After Next, were all box office hits. The buddy comedy film became an instant classic. Friday also inspired many of the comedies that would be released in the 1990s and 2000s, and it is considered one of the best stoner comedies of all time. The movie's...

Corey Taylor: Slipknot Could Continue Even If “I Wanted to Retire”
Image
Since forming in 1999, Slipknot have famously boasted a large lineup — almost always consisting of nine members. While there have been significant changes through the years, one member who seems irreplaceable is frontman Corey Taylor — or maybe not?

Bassist Paul Gray tragically died in 2010, while drummer Joey Jordison (who would later pass away in 2021) parted ways with the band in 2013. In recent years, percussionist Chris Fehn and keyboardist Craig Jones were let go from the masked metal act. Each time, Slipknot have found a replacement and persevered as a band.

In a new interview with Rock Antenne (watch below), Corey Taylor discussed the future of Slipknot and what it would look like if other longtime members, including himself, decided to step away.

Speaking hypothetically, Taylor suggested that if he were to retire from Slipknot, he would gladly seek out his own replacement. Of course, such a scenario would only unfold if...

Identity of Slipknot’s New Mystery Keyboardist Possibly Revealed by Tortilla Man
Image
Since the departure of longtime Slipknot keyboardist Craig Jones last month, the band has kept the name of his replacement a mystery. Ironically, one-time mystery Slipknot member Michael “Tortilla Man” Pfaff may have inadvertently revealed the new key player’s identity.

Pfaff posted a selfie on Instagram from backstage at a recent show. In the since-deleted post, Pfaff is standing in front of a clothing rack labeled with the legal names of each member of Slipknot: “Corey” for frontman Corey Taylor, “Sid” for DJ Sid Wilson, “Mick” for guitarist Mick Thomson, and one tag that appears to read “Zac” … only there is no known member of Slipknot with that name.

The Slipknot faithful were quick to jump on the post, capturing a screenshot and posting it to Reddit. The consensus is that the “Zac” in question is journeyman keyboardist Zac Baird, who’s played with Korn and Ghost and has...

Original Slipknot Vocalist to Perform Band’s Demo Album on Tour, Gets Thumbs Up from Corey Taylor
Image
Original Slipknot vocalist Anders Colsefni is performing the masked metal band’s early album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. from front to back on an upcoming tour. So, what does longtime Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor think? He’s very cool with it.

Colsefni fronted Slipknot from 1995 to 1997, but was replaced by Taylor before they signed to Roadrunner Records. Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. was independently released as the band’s first album on Halloween 1996, but Slipknot would later refer to it as a demo. Even in this early release, it was easy to tell that Slipknot were crafting something very different and brutal that had the ability to catch on.

Earlier this week, Colsefni announced that he’s plotting a 12-date tour of Australia and New Zealand, where he plans to perform the record in full. According to Setlist.fm, Slipknot hasn’t played a song off the release since 1998. Even Taylor...

Slipknot Release Surprise EP as Longtime Keyboardist Craig Jones Exits Band
Image
Slipknot titled their most recent album, The End, So Far, and now it’s becoming clearer how they’re prolonging the apocalypse. On their newly released Adderall EP, they’ve collected three alternate versions of the moody title track (which led off The End, So Far), along with three previously unreleased songs: “Death March,” “Red or Redder,” and “Hard to Be here.”

“Deconstructing to continuously pave the way for evolution,” percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan said elliptically in a statement. “At this point in the program nothing is safe.”

Crahan also directed two new videos,...

Slipknot Release Surprise Six-Song EP and Music Videos for Two New Tracks: Stream
Image
Masked metallers Slipknot have unleashed a surprise six-song EP, Adderall, along with two new music videos. The videos are for the previously unreleased tracks “Memories (Adderall – Rough Demo)” and “Death March,” with both clips directed by Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan.

The Adderall EP features alternate versions and reworkings of the band’s song “Adderall,” as well as the non-lp tracks “Death March,” “Red or Redder” and “Hard to Be Here.” The original version of “Adderall” is the leadoff track on Slipknot’s most recent album, 2022’s The End, So Far.

“Deconstructing to continuously pave the way for evolution,” Clown said of the new EP and videos in a statement. “At this point in the program, nothing is safe.”

Earlier this year, Slipknot released the surprise standalone single “Bone Church,” featuring another Clown-directed video. The “Bone Church” video has surpassed more than one million views to date.

Slipknot Part Ways with Craig Jones, Debut New Member at Tour Kickoff
Image
Slipknot announced have parted ways with keyboardist Craig Jones, who had been a member of the band since 1996. The masked metal outfit gave no reason for the split in a social media post that was almost immediately taken down, but quickly debuted a new member at their European tour kickoff on Wednesday night (June 7th) at the Nova Rock festival in Austria.

The note posted on Slipknot’s social media pages on Wednesday, June 7th (before it was deleted) stated, “To our fans, Slipknot is announcing that we have parted ways with Craig Jones. We wish Jones all the best for the future.”

Shortly after sharing the news of Jones’ exit, the band took the stage in Austria with a new mystery member, whose masked image they shared on their social pages. On Thursday morning (June 8th), the band also shared a eerie video with a “Slipknot” backdrop in the background.

Friday Cast & Character Guide
Image
The Friday cast includes a hip-hop veteran and a comedy stalwart at the forefront along with many more talented character actors. The first entry in the Friday franchise, the 1995 buddy comedy deals with a day in the life of South Central L.A. locals Craig Jones and Smokey as they struggle to come up with the $200 that they owe a drug supplier. Marking the feature directorial debut of F. Gary Gray, Friday has been immortalized in a plethora of Internet memes and pop-culture references. Its quotable dialogues stem from rapper Ice Cube and record producer DJ Pooh’s screenplay, which is largely based on their personal experiences.

One of the interesting behind-the-scenes facts about the making of Friday is that Cube and Pooh sought to reinterpret the “hood” as a place of fun instead of just being violent and menacing. This balance of slacker comedy and socio-political commentary is brought...

Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey in The Negotiator (1998)
How F. Gary Gray Has Given Actors Opportunities They’ve Never Had Before
Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey in The Negotiator (1998)
Looking at a body of work that includes everything from a classic comedy (“Friday”) to hostage thrillers (“The Negotiator”) to high-octane franchise tentpoles (“The Fate of the Furious”), the subject matter of F. Gary Gray’s movies seems to share little in common from one to the next. But the invisible throughline that connects them all is Gray’s remarkable aptitude for finding the least likely actor imaginable and plugging them into an unforgettable role.

From gangsta rapper Ice Cube as a genial straight man in “Friday” to Dwayne Johnson as a gay bodyguard-turned-wannabe actor in “Be Cool” to Charlize Theron as a ruthless cyberterrorist in “Fate of the Furious,” Gray has repeatedly given actors opportunities they’ve never had before, not just challenging them to expand their repertoire, but also changing the way audiences see them on screen.

Cube, for example, was already a co-writer and producer on “Friday...
