The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards are back this year and bigger than ever.

Once again airing on AMC’s Shudder, the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards has shifted the annual awards show’s shift to October; as such, the window of this year’s eligible horrors is an expanded one, encompassing all of 2023 and the first half of 2024. That means a much bigger selection of horror titles to pull from, and with the expanded categories this year, that means a massive list of 46 nominees. They even have a new category this year: Best Video Game.

Here’s where you come in; Fangoria needs your vote to decide on the winners! We have it on good authority that some of the categories are extremely competitive right now. And voting happens to be officially open for the awards show.

The only award season that matters is here! Joking (kind of), but seriously, Fangoria just released the complete list of nominees for the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards. Considering how often horror gets shut out of the mainstream award shows, it's nice to have at least one thing we can rely on year after year.

Last year's Chainsaw Awards included big wins for movies like The Black Phone, Terrifier 2, and Prey. This time, the categories are again stacked, with films like Abigail, Evil Dead Rise, The First Omen, Talk To Me, Late Night with the Devil, and many more going head to head.

Specific performances are also being highlighted, like Tobin Bell in Saw X and Kathryn Newton for both Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail. It's been a fantastic few years for horror, and it'll be exciting to see which movies pull ahead this time around.

Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling “Poor Things” – Willem Dafoe

Weekly Commentary: Another deathmatch between two movies — Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ sci-fi comedy “Poor Things.”

“Maestro” won big at the Makeup and Hair guild while “Poor Things” took home the BAFTA prize.

A24’s horror movie Talk to Me may not have been recognized by the Academy Awards here in the United States this year, but the box office hit just scored big over in Australia.

The most prestigious awards ceremony for the Australian film and television industry is the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, and Talk to Me – directed by Australian brothers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou – just took home eight awards over the weekend… including the single biggest prize of the night: Best Picture!

In addition to Best Picture, Talk to Me also won the following awards:

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) handed out its 2024 awards on Saturday, and Talk to Me won big, including for best film and best director, while Margot Robbie was honored with the Trailblazer Award.

Barbie, Oppenheimer and The Bear were among the Hollywood honorees, with big Australian winners including the likes of The Newsreader, Deadloch and The New Boy.

“Talk to Me is the biggest winner of the night, adding a further three awards to its collection and taking its total wins to eight, following the Aacta Industry Awards earlier in the week,” the Australian Academy noted. The honors include the one for best direction in film for sibling-YouTubers-turned-directors Danny and Michael Philippou.

Among acting talent earning trophies, rising star Sophie Wilde won the best lead actress in film award for her performance in Talk to Me, while Aswan Reid got the best lead actor in film...

“Talk to Me” was the runaway winner at this year’s main awards from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

The native production, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last year and was acquired by A24 for North American distribution, scored three of the evening’s top prizes, including wins for best film, best lead actress for Sophie Wilde and best direction for the filmmaking duo of brothers, Danny Philippou and Michael Philoppou.

Other winners from this year’s edition include “The New Boy” stars Aswan Reid and Deborah Mailman in lead actor and supporting actress, respectively, and Hugo Weaving in supporting actor for “The Rooster.”

The Aacta Awards were held Saturday evening at the Home of the Arts, Gold Coast in Queensland. Rebel Wilson served as host, while Australian star Margot Robbie was honored with the group’s trailblazer award.

Gore guru Tom Savini has not abandoned horror; merely stepped aside. The FX artist has focused on acting and directing, while giving FX work to students. But a new film, Redd Inc. has lured him back. Redd Inc. is about a boss who " traps his victims and forces them to work in an horrific office of his own insane creation. They are tasked with a seemingly impossible job which they must complete or face a grisly termination." Savini handpicked Nick Nicolau and Paul Katte, and their company Makeup Effects Group (Meg) to splash about a bit of the red stuff. Mary Doe is an undead film project, which is currently in the pre-production stages. The longer vision for the Mary Doe universe is a trio of films, called the "Femme Fatale Trilogy."

The first film follows Mary, as she turns into one of the undead. Found in a desert, she is taken below ground, to a government research facility. Here she undergoes mysterious biological experiments.

Finally, due to the early stages of this film project, the details on Mary Doe are developing, with the film's concept poster left and a synopsis inside.

Bumping into makeup FX artists Nick Nicolaou and Paul Katte over a table of body parts on the set of Redd Inc. (more about that one very soon!), Fango learned that work on their zombie feature project Mary Doe has steadily continued since we first reported on it here. Special FX guru, Nick Nicolaou has worked on a lot of kick ass movies. The Matrix trilogy, Darkness Falls, Island of Dr. Moreau and Silk to name only a few. So when we found out he was in development on a post-apocalyptic zombie flick called Mary Doe, which is calls "the 1st in the Femme Fatale Trilogy' trilogy'" we wanted to bring it to your attention.

Synopsis:

A twelve-day trek across the desert and the insignificant form that is Mary Doe has exhausted all life within her. Rescued from death's door, she finds herself abandoned with five men, in a decommissioned government facility used for testing biological weapons.

Lost with no memory of who she is and no placement in this world, she finds no reason to want to win her freedom - to journey Back From The Dead...
