Not to be confused with Charles Kaufman’s horror-thriller of the same name – nor its forgettable remake from 2010 – Open Road Films has unveiled the first trailer for Garry Marshall’s imminent romantic comedy, Mother’s Day.
Spinning a yarn around the titular holiday in the same vein as the director’s other themed efforts – namely Valentine’s Day and the much-maligned New Year’s Eve – Mother’s Day places a laser focus on the core cast of Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jason Sudeikis and Julia Roberts, rather than spreading a wafer-thin narrative across a massive ensemble. That said, Marshall’s latest – written by Anya Kochoff-Romano and Lily Hollander – still orbits around a series of overlapping stories set against the holiday occasion.
This time, Aniston’s single mother and recent divorcée Sandy is searching for a significant other; Hudson’s workaholic mom makes it her mission to connect with her...

We all love our mothers. They.re great, they raised us, showed the ways of the world, and generally shaped who we ultimately become. Because they wield such a massive influence in our lives, it makes sense that they also figure prominently into horror as a genre, and sometimes that power and inspiration is less than positive. And with Mother.s Day this weekend, we figured, what better time to explore some of our favorite terrible horror movie moms and what makes them so wonderfully evil. Reading this list should make you thankful for our own mother. 10. Mother, Mother.s Day Given the holiday, this is the most obvious place to kick things off. While we.re talking about Charles Kaufman.s (brother of Troma.s Lloyd Kaufman) 1980 horror-thriller Mother.s Day, you can also check out the recent remake, which was surprisingly solid. When a group of friend embark...

Mother’s Day is interesting, especially with its connection to Troma. Directed by Charles Kaufman the brother of Lloyd there is a recognisable Troma style on display, but less hectic and if anything somewhat more mature.

Ask any self-respecting slasher buff about the genre’s ‘golden age’ and they will doubtlessly wax poetic about the plasma-packed pot-boilers of the 1980s – the decade of destruction that gave us Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger and the transsexual teen-tormenter of the Sleepaway Camp series. Given the label’s name, what better way for 88 Films to celebrate this halcyon era of horror than with a series of numbered and collectible sanguine-splashed shockers from the period of VHS and video nasties?
88 Films is proud to announce the launch of a new “Slasher Classics” line – kicking off with a digitally re-mastered DVD release of Don Gronquist’s notorious censor-baiting backwoods sickie Unhinged (1982). Further fearful fun will be delivered with Don’t Go in the Woods (1981) – the effortlessly enjoyable “hunt ‘em and kill ‘em” epic that once had British authorities outlawing its very exhibition! In 1980 you may have been pleasantly mortified by Charles Kaufman’s Mother’s Day. In 1993 people everywhere were mesmerized by a simple weatherman who finds himself living the same day over and over again in Harold Ramis’Groundhog Day. In 1996, July 4th was given a new name in terror when aliens invaded the U.S. in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day. In 2010 you may have cuddled up to Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, or checked out Chris Lamartina’s President’s Day. In 2013, and for every year after, you will associate the holiday that falls annually on May 7th with the horrors, humor, and startling imagery of a high school educator gone mad in Jared Masters’ Teachers’ Day, a shocking, unexpected to-be hit holiday movie.

In the late 1970′s Lloyd Kaufman, who would become known for his own gross-out horror/comedy films, produced Mother’s Day for his brother Charles. Revered as a classic of its kind, and era, it’s got a nasty mix of uneasy comedy, low rent special effects, and a genuinely creepy concept that make it much better than it has any right to be.
Three ex-college roommates set off for an annual surprise get together. Each year, one of them chooses an activity that the others aren’t aware of and for this particular year, they are venturing into the pine barrens of New Jersey. As is required of films of this type, the trip is anything but relaxing. Not long into their vacation, they’re kidnapped by two men and gifted to their mother for some “family fun”.

Shawn Ashmore has declared himself a horror fan. “I do like horror films,” he said. “I’ve made a lot of horror films. I like supernatural horror more than just slasher films.” Ashmore’s love of horror helps him in the remake of the 1980 Troma classic “Mother’s Day,” directed by Charles Kaufman. Ashmore plays George, a doctor who is part of the group of strangers trapped in a sadistic family’s house. According to Ashmore, George’s abilities allow him to take on the task of keeping one of the trapped members’ brother alive. His know-how and prestige also gives him more leverage with the criminals. “He’s kind of the audience,” said Ashmore. [ Read More ]...

Darren Lynn Bousman has been a busy boy as of late. From his humble beginning doing the follow up to Saw (very humble, right?) to Repo: The Genetic Opera (which I put in my DVD player at least once a month but do not actually watch) to Saw III… Saw IV… 11-11-11… Devil’s Carnival and of course, less we forget that the remake craze is still in full effect, Mother’s Day. We are here to discuss the Blu-Ray release of the remake of the Troma classic hillbilly horror, cringe-fest. We’ll briefly go over my thoughts on the “remake” (because it ain’t a prequel) and then we’ll get into the combo packagey-goodness.

Saw II, III, and IV mastermind Darren Lynn Bousman turned his talents to a horror remake post-icky torture porn delights with his take on the Troma classic Mother’s Day. A spin on Charles Kaufman and Warren Leight’s 1980 film of the same name, Bousman moves the action of his film out of the woods (boo!) and into suburbia (further boos!), though he appears to hew to the original idea of three bad brothers bent on impressing their sicko mom with lots of blood and torture and crime. Hey, every family is different! Bousman’s film stars Rebecca De Mornay as dear sweet Mother (going back to her Hand That Rocks the Cradle creepy best), with Patrick Flueger, Warren Kole, and Matt O’Leary as her evil spawn. The three younger Koffins rob a bank, go to hide out in their family home, only to find that Mother lost it to foreclosure. That...

Anchor Bay will be releasing Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Mother’s Day and we’ve been supplied with the official synopsis, photos, and the recently released theatrical trailer.
“From the maker of Saw II, III and IV, Mother’S Day is a graphic remake of the Troma horror classic, Mother’s Day. After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers go home to hideout…only to discover that their Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) lost their house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their party guests become the depraved brothers’ unwitting hostages. Their sadistic Mother soon arrives and brilliantly takes control of the situation, ratcheting up the terror. As the hostages struggle desperately to survive the harrowing torture, they realize that there is nothing a Mother won’t do to protect her children.

Talk about hanging around. It feels like I’ve been covering Darren Bousman’s “Mother’s Day” remake for years now, possibly decades. It’s only been two years, but let’s face it, if you wanted to see this movie, you would have found ways to see it by now. It’s been all over the genre festival circuits, but for those of you who have a fear of film festivals, Anchor Bay will finally release it in a limited capacity on May 4th in parts of New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, before shipping it off to DVD and Blu-ray May 8th where it will make most of its money. Or that’s the hope, anyway. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III and IV) with screen story and screenplay by Scott Milam based on the original Mother’S Day written by Charles Kaufman and Warren Leight,...

Darren Lynn Bousman may not be the king of horror, but he did create quite a few movies under that genre. Like those Saw sequels (II, III, IV) you all know and loathe, the freakishly weird cult classic The Genetic Opera, and the gone in a blink of an eye flick 11-11-11. Now the director has come out with a remake of sorts. The first trailer for Bousaman’s Mother’s Day has been released. The movie is based on a remake of Charles Kaufman’s 1980 film of the same name.
Rebecca DeMornay is the crazed mother of three fugitive sons who find their childhood home occupied by “unwanted guests”. The movie also stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Shawn Ashmore and Matt O’Leary.

Last year, director Darren Lynn Bousman had his timely horror film 11-11-11 chased out of theaters just as quickly as it came by bigger releases like The Immortals and Jack & Jill (though I can't imagine the film being much worse than either of them). Now Bousman is back with a film that showed up at Fantastic Fest back in September of 2010, and the first trailer for the horror thriller Mother's Day, a remake of Charles Kaufman's 1980 film of the same name. Rebecca DeMornay is rocking the cradle again as the "mother" of a villainous family returning to their childhood home to terrorize the new home owners and their guests.
