Stephen Keep Mills (imdb.me/StephenKeepMills) made his exit from the Yale Drama School (and the great Stella Adler) in the spring of 1969 to act with the Guthrie Theatre.
He subsequently performed on 20 years' worth of regional stages across the US and Canada. He appeared both on and Off-Broadway and guest-starred in multiple episodic TV shows, and Movies of the Week.
The 1980 Actors strike proved to be a turning point. Shut out from the series "Flo", Mills turned to the stage but instead of acting, he directed for the first time winning rave reviews in the LA Times. This led to more directing and the decision to write, direct, and produce independently.
His 2003 film Hotel Lobby, inspired by Edward Hopper's painting, found life and awards on the festival circuit. It was followed by two award-winning shorts, A Cigar at the Beach in 2005, and in 2008, LIMINAL.
Mills' debut feature, Love Is Not Love, premiered at Cinequest in 2020 one week before Covid turned the festival world virtual. The film went on to screen at 125 festivals winning over 170 awards and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, YouTube, and Google Play. Random Media is the distributor.
¡Contesta! is Mills' screen adaptation of Italian playwright Ugo Betti's 1947 stage play Ispezione. In new Spanish and English translations, the story is set in 20th century Mexico in the midst of a civil war.
